FFFC

What's going on in this week?

So, even though I laugh, roll my eyes, etc. when someone starts a 'just for fun' post about the Ramzi Theory, I have to admit that when @lgsdesigner posted that pic of the actual theory I ran to grab my u/s pics from both my babies. Yah, I have no more insight than I did before about the sex of this baby.  But...you know....I did it just for fun. :)

No one is prepared to have a baby. I don't care how many years of experience someone has with younger siblings, nannying, whatever. If you've never had your own baby, you're not fully prepared. And actually, fuck that. Even having one kid doesn't prepare you for future kids because they're all different.

Some days after I put the kids to bed, I just sit and think, "Holy crap, how are we all still alive?"

Some days are awesome, don't get me wrong, but some days are pure survival. It's totally normal to be nervous about it. :)
    Yep!  So true.

I'm scared shitless of giving birth. I mentioned this in the epidural thread, and after reading the whole thread, I am even more scared. I've even had moments like "Do I really want this baby?"

But those moments only last a second, then I'm like "Of course I do! It's all worth it!"

I know I will get through it and it will be worth it, but I'm terrified of giving birth. And it's not the pain I'm truly afraid of - it's the needles. I'm a huge needle phobic. I can't even look at one without getting lightheaded.

Yeeeep. Even though I already have two, I am scared of a third. I am happy I am pg, and excited, but at the same time...dude...THREE kids. My 3 yr old is potty trained and doesn't get up in the middle of the night anymore. To think I will have to do the whole diaper thing again and wake every 1.5 hours to nurse? Yeah...not looking forward to that part.

Five of the girls from my TK month board are visiting this weekend (and two husbands) and I give no fucks about explaining how I know them to our friends while tailgating this weekend. I've met them all before and we've been talking for over four years. They're amazing and I'm definitely not ashamed that we met on a wedding forum.
I have 3 people I still keep in touch with from my Knot days and 2 that I see regularly and we always laugh when someone asks us how we met. We have no shame in our game either!!

honestly i contemplated not getting the epidural. not bc i want to have a natural birth reasons, but bc ZOMG that needle!!!!!!!! let me reassure you the epidural is nothing. you barely feel it going in, the only thing your mind is on is "oh my gosh this contraction!!!!!" i was also really scared that i would shake at the last second he would miss and i would be paralyzed or something (totally rational fear right?) and all my fears were absolutely not what it is like. he stood behind me i couldnt see a thing he was doing, i was so focused on my contractions i didnt notice/feel it being done. then no lie - no pain for the rest of the time (note i did end up with a csection, but i was fully dialated) i was just hanging out playing candy crush chatting with DH watching the price is right. easy peasy ;)
I thought the same thing when I was pregnant with my first.  There was NO WAY I was letting them put a needle in my spine!  But after several hours of pitocin contractions, a needle in my spine actually sounded like a good idea.

#1 I ate an entire shrimp at my desk Wednesday (and have another one in the freezer)

#2 I have to go home tonight and hand wash an entire load of dirty dishes in my dishwasher because it won't start.  I am pissed at DH because he isn't home to fix it.  Not his fault, but for whatever reason I am holding him responsible.  Not my usual reaction but I am not happy about my first world problem.

EDIT: That would be a shrimp RING haha.

  • We're not doing Halloween for my 21 month old this year. He doesn't understand it and buying a costume for a quick picture seems silly.
We're skipping this year too with my 19 month old. I think we'll start next year. I'm also turning off lights and closing my shades this Halloween - my toddler goes to bed at 7, and my dogs FREAK OUT if anyone comes to the door. Can't really leave candy on the porch either, for the same reason. Sorry, I'm a scrooge this year.

  • I just had an appointment for my yearly eye exam. My doctor said "Oh, my neighbor got this test done at 10 weeks to find out the sex of the baby, etc." No, she didn't get the test done "just to find out the sex of the baby." And if she did, really? Not what it's all about.

I am perfectly fine waiting for the anatomy scan and even then, my major concern will be "Is the baby healthy?"
  • I'm going to talk to my Dr about doing the Genetic test even though I already did PGD testing and I'm not finding out the sex. I'm only doing it because there is still a 1% chance the test was inaccurate. But really I just want to be a normal 40 yr old pregnant person and have all the test everyone else does.
    Fucking bump!!!!

I haven't "congrats"'d anyone who finds out the sex via panorama/materniti21/harmony yet because I a) am Annoyed they think we care B) don't recognize any of the posters C) I dgaf about the sex of anyone's baby
I don't because they usually lead with the sex info when that's not what the test is actually for. I feel like having a healthy baby should be celebrated over finding out the sex....
    D) this. The test is about a healthy baby and I'm not even sure most having the test even were at risk for genetic issues.
I'll white knight just a little here to say everyone is at risk for chromosomal issues.  More babies with Downs are born to women under 35 than over.  You are never at an age when there is zero risk.

Having said that, I agree that a healthy baby is 100% the reason for the early tests and the anatomy scan and really any ultrasound.  I get more irritated when women imply finding out the sex is the main reason for these tests vs those who announce the sex after they've had the test and found out their baby is healthy.  I've never seen a post or heard an announcement of "It's a boy! And, oh, by the way, we found out the baby has Trisomy 18."  I think most people assume that other people are interested in the sex and by announcing that it can be assumed that the baby is healthy.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

Oh yeah my other FFFC is every day this week after dropping DS at school, I've gone through the Starbucks DT and gotten a tall coffee and a pumpkin muffin. And fed it to DD. Who is 13 months old.

---QUOTE FAIL--- Unless you are talking about live births, that is inaccurate. It is well researched that women of AMA have increased risks of having children with chromosomal defects. If you have seen a fact about more children with Downs being BORN to younger mothers that's probably because older mothers may more often make the extremely difficult decision of terminating the pregnancy, therefore fewer children with Downs are BORN to them. You are correct though that no one has 0% chances.
I did say "more babies with Downs are born to women under 35."

And actually, it's not necessarily about more women over 35 terminating, it's simply  that more women of childbearing age are under 35, thus there are far more children born to women under 35 than over.  But, as we agree, the odds of having a baby with a trisomy do increase as you get older and no one has a 0% risk.

  • My FFFC: I don't think I've eaten any meat in a week and I have no intention of trying to force myself to change that. I tried to eat Flame Broiler last night and almost got sick, it was horrible.

That's a lame one, but it's early. Also, living on the West Coast is lame because you guys have a 3-hour jump on getting the boards rolling. ;)

  • I told DH that we would be announcing on FB and at work this week. I totally didn't. I'm all talk, no action. I don't know why I'm dragging my feet on this. Am I scared to jinx myself? Do I not believe its real?

I was going to make treats for everyone at work and leave a note, but I talked myself out of that. We posed some pumpkins for our FB announcement, and now I don't like the pic. I was going to get one of those pregnant skeleton shirts and wear it to work for our Halloween potluck today and now I'm rethinking that. Omg, Freddy. Do something already!
