I just got the flu shot yesterday because my OBGYN has been urging me to. I'm 34 weeks pregnant. I am freaking out because I'm reading all this stuff about autism. I don't know if I got preservative free shot.
Stop reading whatever you are reading. There is no no no no no link between vaccinations and autism. The flu shot is approved for, and recommended for, pregnant women.
Well thank you to everyone who wasn't sarcastic with me. We all have worries and I'm sorry if I don't know everything most of you do. I was asking on here to have support. Not to be made fun of.
If you're really that worried, call the place you got the flu shot at and confirm it was Preservative free. If they knew you were pregnant, you def would have gotten the preservative free shot.
And to echo PP's, there is no link between vaccines and autism. Instead of reading some anti-vax mommy blogs for information, try credible sources like the cdc.

And here's the most important thing: you've already had the flu shot. Since you can't suck it out of your body, there's no point worrying about it now anyways.
PLUS: there is no known cause of autism. There is some speculation that the flu during pregnancy could cause it, not the flu shot. This study is probably crap too, buy at least it has more merit than Jenny McCarthy.

@lizzielu82 yes! it sure is! Seems to have started yesterday at 11pm when l&d was turning away 35 weekers with leaking fluids.
@MrsG1019 thanks for confirming - must have forgotten to mark my calendar. Silly me!
Also, thank goodness I'll be 36 weeks tmrw - want to avoid me and my leaky fluids being turned away from l&d if at all possible. Hopefully they have a different policy after 35 weeks....

Pretty certain you're safe. Unless you are 36 weeks and want to go get your leaky fluids tested on a weekend... They don't take people of your kind on weekends so you'll have to wait till Monday. Good news is once you're 37 weeks they're open 24 hours a day!!! & the advice line is open too!

Score! One more week living on the edge and then I'll be in the safety zone! Man it's tough navigating this weekly pregnancy class system of rules and preferential treatment... @-)
Well I called the docs and they said it wasn't preservative free. Then I called the nurses hotline and they said it didn't matter if it was or not. I'm supposed to feel reassured but for some reason I'm still not . Oh well

FFS. I bet I can come up with a couple reasons. The ladies here gave you solid advice. YOUR DOCTOR did too. Yet you still felt the need to ask this same question on another board. You're just going to keep going until you get the arm flailing responses you're looking for.
If it helps, I just got the flu shot today as well. They only had one available, and I'm fairly certain in contained preservatives (I didn't ask - the pharmacist saw I was pregnant, and has something like 8 years of post-secondary education) .
Look, yeah I posted it somewhere else because I wanted as many opinions as possible. Is that so wrong? My bad if that bothers you. But I don't care. I'm a first time mom and I'm probably going to worry about a shit ton of things that don't matter. I know that. So keep your bitchy opinions to yourself.

This whole "whaaaaaa I'm a FTM excuse" is getting old! Either educate yourself, listen to your doctor or just STFU cuz you're gonna drive yourself nuts if you worry about Every. Little. Thing. in your kids upcoming life. You're clearly not out seeking advice unless it's from people that wanna freak out with you and pat you on the back. We've given you as man opinions and as big of a variety of advice as you're gonna get.

El oh El. You posted it somewhere else cause you weren't happy with the responses you initially got. If the medical professionals can't ease your mind, strangers on the net aren't going to be anymore successful. Educate yourself and there would be no reason "to worry about a shit ton of things that don't matter".
Look at info on the cdc or nih websites and don't google, rely on blogs, or Wikipedia for info. You will drive yourself crazy if you worry about every little thing. All of us are either ftm or we were ftm in the past. Trust medical professionals and verify with credible sources.
I'm just excited that our new trolls are attracting other smart bumpies like @allrightmeow to come visit N14. I think this means that we've officially made it.
OP, using the "I'm a FTM" excuse makes you look even more ridiculous. You know that, right?
And yes, we are bitches. We are quite proud of being harpy bitches. It took us hard work to earn that title. So...no, we will certainly NOT keep our bitchy opinions to ourselves.

Well except me. I've been catfishing all of you. I'm just here for the mucus plug pictures.
But seriously, it's the internet. If you want someone to validate you and tell you what you want to hear call your mom. That's what moms are for.
OR you can call my mom. At some point she's got the idea that vaccines and shots are the devil and cause autism/cancer/ebola/explosive diarrhea/etc. I'm sure she'll tell you exactly what you want to hear.

I was just trying to get help. I don't know how this stuff works and yeah you are all bitches and so am I . I wasn't trying to play a poor me card. I just don't understand why I was being called a troll and what not . I thought these forums were for helping other mothers out. Not battering them and making them feel stupid. I stopped freaking out this morning. I just wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing what I was.
Sooooo. I do appreciate the fact that you came back. And that you stopped freaking out. I think it's important for you to understand that no one was "battering" you or trying to make you feel stupid.
They were pointing out the obvious- you got a shot from your doctor, willingly stuck your arm out for this shot, then decided to freak out over information that is not backed by science.
I wonder what would you have preferred we respond with?
No, I understand. I just didn't expect it but maybe that's just what I needed . I got the shot from Walgreens cause my obgyn didn't have any in office and neither did my primary. So it's my fault that I got the shot. I was just concerned that my obgyn didn't tell me there were two different kinds. So I stupidly turned to the internet. Lol well I know my little guy will be fine. Thanks for the help.
I was on the fence about getting the flu shot and decided not to get it while pregnant based on having a conversation with my doctor. Initially the PA that I saw was really pushing that I get the flu shot and told me I could think about it but that every other doctor was going to say the same thing. Then at my next appointment I talked to a physician about it and how I was hesitant to get the shot while still being pregnant. He understood my concern and stated that the immunizations for the flu doesn't really pass onto the baby like the TDAP does (which I did choose to get). He recommended that I could do what I was comfortable with and that they could provide me with the flu shot at the hospital before I went home.
While I know there is no proven link yet to Autism and vaccinations, there is also no known cause for Autism. I currently work at a preschool for children with disabilities and work with a lot of children with Autism. I can understand the fears people have for their child developing Autism and there are a lot of stories of children demonstrating regression after having a particular vaccination. Most of the reports are parent reports with no proven connection and it may just be coincidence. But I guess my point is that while getting the flu shot during pregnancy is most likely not the cause of a child developing Autism, I can understand people having that fear.

I totally get what you are saying. There is also no proven link between eating twinkies and getting autism, but hell if my daughter will eat them!
I was only saying that I can understand the concern. I am not uninformed, I have actually read a good amount of research on these topics because as I stated I work very closely with many children with autism. I am very well educated and have taken quite a few college courses in research/statistics and in the medical field. I am not a doctor and I don't pretend to be. I have very informed conversations with my physicians. I just feel that after working with so many families of children with Autism I can understand the questioning and fear that occurs because the cause of Autism is so unknown.

Yeah, but focusing on the flu shot as a concern and possible cause of autism is nothing short of fear mongering.
