Ok I know how many weeks but months I'm not quite sure. Everyone is telling me a different number and I even feel dumb asking but I'm a first time mother, I am 31 weeks on Monday.
I've just been taking the number of weeks I am and dividing by 4 I've noticed that my older relatives don't realize that there are 40 weeks in a pregnancy which actually equals 10 months total time being preggo so they always argue with me but the chart that was posted above is very helpful
Actually 40 weeks doesn't equal 10 months. There are only 52 weeks in a year. 52 weeks/12 months mean approximately 4.3 weeks a month.
ETA if each month was exactly 4 weeks long then there would be 13 months in a year.

This really isn't accurate though, there are more than 28 days per month. I know the chart breaks down in intervals of 4 weeks then on the 3,6, and 9 month they are 5 weeks.

Instead of worrying about how many weeks are in a month or whatever you could just count back in months from your due date. I'm due dec 1 so I could say I was 8 months pg on nov 1. But that doesn't work either because there are more like 9.5 months in a pg, so maybe count foward from you lmp (or whatever you're basing your dating on). My Lmp was feb. 25 or something so I would be 8 months pg on Oct. 25.

Most aren't familiar with pregnancy math, or that average pregnancies are 40-41 weeks in length. When most people hear "9 months" they're thinking 36 weeks, simple math.
I just say I'm in my 8th month, and when I hit 36 weeks, I'll be in my 9th month. I avoid said X months because it's doesn't denote what comes to their mind. A lot of people, even women/mothers of past generations, are clueless about pregnancy math. Most people are not thinking 41 weeks is 9 months. That doesn't even register. And I've known women to make it to 43 weeks. So, what are they?

Most people think you are pregnant for 9 months but it is actually 10 so it confuses them when you say you are 8 months pregnant and still have 8 weeks left. Therefore I just say weeks.

Your wrong about the months thing. There is a couple posts above explaining it....
Bah. I hate this question from people, patients in particular. Why are patients so nosy btw? "How far are you? How many months? What is it ('puppies')? What is the baby's name?"
Can I give you his social security number too while we're doing the 3rd degree? I am clearly too grumpy for this working-6-days-in-a-row shit.
I think I may need to start mat leave earlier than originally planned.
I just make up numbers. I can tell if people "really" want to know, or if they're just asking to make small talk. Women I tell weeks, men I say how many weeks to go, or I'll just randomly throw out months. People don't have a clue so there is no point in giving them exact details.
There are 4 weeks in a lunar month which means there 9 full months of pregnancy. If u divide 40 by 4 weeks it equals 10 but that means it's 9 full months. Each calendar month has a different amount of weeks.
I'm weird about telling people (strangers) my due date. When someone asks when I'm due, I just say December. When asked how far along, I say 8 months. In the beginning I would say how many weeks simply because I liked the higher number. But some would look at me with confused looks and say, so how many months is that?
I usually answer in weeks. BUT, since common language is "9 months," even if that's not entirely accurate, I count back from my due date. So since my due date is December 10th, I started saying I was 7 months pregnant on October 10th. Starting tomorrow, I'll say 7.5 (because it's 15 days later)...and then on November 10th, I'll say I'm 8 months. It's not scientific and I pretty much made it up, but it seems to satisfy people in the way that they like to think of pregnancies as 9 months.

217 divided by 30.5 (average days in a month)
Which makes you 7.1 months pregnant.
Easy math.
