NBR: Breast Pump Question (sorry if its already been addressed)

Sorry if this topic has been previously addressed I couldn't really find it when I scrolled through past dates. I wanted your opinions on Medela or Ameda breast pumps. I'm looking online and getting mixed reviews. These are the two I narrowed it down to that are covered 100% through my insurance.

Tell me what you ladies think please!!!

(Again sorry if its a topic that's been talked about already)

Re: NBR: Breast Pump Question (sorry if its already been addressed)

  • When I did my research, I decided firmly on the Medela PISA. I can't remember the specifics, but I do know it was convincing enough that once I made up my mind, I never reconsidered. Haven't used it yet, but I have heard fabulous things!

  • Used a Medela PISA for my first two and it worked very well. I also found it very convenient. I have no experience with the Ameda. I am guessing they are probably of pretty equal quality since they are the two that insurance companies have opted for providing coverage of.
  • I got a Medela but, as a FTM, I haven't actually used it yet. It got really good reviews.
  • Every single nurse (that's breastfeding obvi) on my floor uses the Medela. They've never had anything bad to say about their pumps. Hospital grade medela is what we carry on our floor.

    I bought the Medela PISA for myself.

    I got a Medela Freestyle- double electric. I think it is the new style with some improvements over PISA. Lighter weight pump, hands free, multi settings to improve let down, improved battery life? I box shopped at BRU to decide. My insurance covered it. FTM, so I havent used it yet and have no comparison :-)

  • I don't have any advice. I'm just curious how this is not baby related (NBR)?

  • I had a Medea freestyle last time and liked it. I actually wasn't able to pump long bit sent it to my best friend who had her baby 3 months after me. He's now 15 months and she's still using it and it's going strong.

    Even though they're both covered if you have to buy through a medical supply place you may want to call them and see what they carry. I'll get a new one this time and my local medical supply only carries Medea (which is what I would choose again regardless).

  • I became an exculsive pumper and I had a Medea and it worked great. I plan on using it again this time once I go back to work!
  • I actually posted something about this a few weeks ago....I get a free double electric Ameda pump through my insurance and asked opinions on whether or not I should go with the free one or just pay for the Madela as it always seems to have the best reviews (I was concerned since I would be returning to work and really needed a reliable breast pump).  Several of the ladies who responded said the Ameda has worked great for them, so I went ahead and ordered that one for free, and I figure if it doesn't do the job, I can always go buy the Medela. Hope that helps :)

    LOL, fair enough. I was just wondering how you planned to use the pump if it wasn't for your baby ;)

  • @rainbows‌ I called my insurance and they gave me 3 providers that are covered 100%; then went to each website and narrowed it down. You might wanna do that if it's easier. They also told me if it was a non provider they would still pay up to 60%
    @LooneyLife‌ it's for my baby! I promise! Lol :)
