Tuesday Randoms!

Re: Tuesday Randoms!

  • My Tuesday Random: I keep reading this title as Tuesday Tantrum. I think I've been dealing with too many temper tantrums today!

I'm about to throw a Tuesday Tantrum, so that works for me ;)

I'm a grump this afternoon.  Our digital agency is pissing me off (hello, I'm the CLIENT...your job is to kiss my ass, not BE an ass!), my coworker made some comment about how when she has kids (she's not pregnant, mind you) she'd never "let someone else raise them" (meaning daycare) and doesn't understand how anyone could (she knows I have a child and am returning to work after this baby), and I want chocolate and have none.

And I used too many parenthesis in the above paragraph.  (But I don't care.)

    _____

@ExcitedMama2‌, daycare comments like that make me ragey. Sorry your coworker is acting like a twatwaffle.
  • Loading the player...
  • @honeybeee3‌ - sorry to hear about morons making you less safe :-( I think I am going to buy a special key to keep on my keychain, with all the sharp edges possible, just for keying cars of those who choose not to vaccinate. Bwahaha
If you do, I will give you this donut strawberry shortcake for being so awesome. Also -you should sell them on Etsy! I would definitely buy one. :Dimage

Why is this the first time i'm seeing this awesomeness... O.M.G.

    Ugh on so many levels!
    1) the client thing - I deal with the same kind of stuff sometimes at work and its the worst! I'm the client! Be nice to me!
    2) Day care comment - so ridiculous and infuriating.
    3) I have some chocolate on my desk and you can have some. Hershey's nuggets - assorted. Come on over.
  • @ExcitedMama2‌

What an educated and intelligent coworker you have there. Not.

    I'm sorry, she's ridiculous.

  • @liladelphia215‌ , I don't ever see statuses like that just the blog posts praising SAHM's as princesses or whatever. I'm a SAHM and it irritates Me. I definitely don't feel all powerful or special. It just is how it is. I'm happy with my choice, but it drives me crazy a lot of days too just like I think it would on the other side. To each there own, but no reason for people to think their situation is better than others'
  • @luckylady18 I'll be right over!  We can eat chocolate and complain about lame agencies!

I've seen it a few times - I have a couple of gems on my feed. I had one SAHM status say "Oh, you work 9-5? That's nice. I clocked in at 4am #stayathomemom" And it really rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe I shouldn't have taken that to heart - but I basically told her that all Moms do that, not just those who stay at home and that her status rubbed me the wrong way.. and of course all her friends called me a hater, so I just defriended her - she wasn't really a good friend of mine anyway.

But you are right, everyone's situation is different and not one better than another. If I had my way, I'd work part time for the best of both worlds. I might just be sensitive, but I just hate when I read a status that reeks of "my life is harder because I xxx" or "My choice of xxx is better because..." - even if that's not what is meant.
That would make me ragey.  I think SAHMs have an incredibly hard job, and I think working moms have an incredibly hard job...both called "being a mom."  Does your former friend think that babies don't wake up at 4am because they know mommy has to go to work at 9?  And if she has some magic secret that makes that possible...can she share it with me?
I would love to know as well - hell, I was up with a 3.5 year old at 1am who wanted her back rubbed, haha - a monster of my own creation. I think that part made me ragey, probably because I was up that night, too lol! And what does she think, that when I clock out of the office at 5pm, my day ends.. no baby to come home to?

I would never say SAHM's have it easy. I was laid off less than two months post maternity leave (when DD was 3 monthsish old) and went back to work when DD was 8 months - so I was there for a little while, and it's not easy.. but nothing is really easy when it comes to being a Mom.
Exactly! To all of this. My mom worked full time and so does my BFF, but I SAHM. Basically because I felt it was the right choice for me, but also a lot because I can't make enough money to make it worth me working. Especially now with #4 on the way! I can sympathize with both sides for sure.

  • I just wanted to say I was a sahm until DD1 was 2 years old, and it wasn't easy. I have now worked for 2 years and am still working until the dr says I no longer can (had to cut back on hours) which is also pretty hard.
My babysitter atm has made the comment of how she doesn't understand how people have kids just so others can raise them, and constantly asks me why I don't just stay home... I pay you $25 to watch my child for 3 hours a day... That's it.
And it's mainly because she loves going over there to play with the other kids...
    I need a new sitter...
    Rant over.
  • Might be more of a bitch than a random, but WTF is with the girl in my office always telling stories of people she knows whose pregnancies ended tragically. STOP IT!! Today she felt that whispering a story to the table was appropriate bc I was at the microwave. I CAN STILL HEAR YOU!!!

  • @rayna912‌

You totally need a new babysitter.

I'm pretty thankful that both times I've worked at a daycare, I've never heard one daycare worker share this sentiment so it's very wild to me that people actually say this to mothers. WTF.

I nearly broke open a bag of Halloween candy until I remembered the half kit-lay bar I was hiding in the fridge. It would have been a mini-kit-kat-massacre. Crisis averted.

  • I can't find my son's copy of "Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed" and I think that book is hilarious...so I'm ordering another copy.  My son's library of books is way more impressive than mine...but I'm horrible about organizing it.  I'm seriously thinking of telling the next person that offers to help me get ready for the baby that I need my bookshelves organized.  But how should it be done?  Author? Theme? Alphabetical by book title?  So many choices.
I go by size for the kids books :)

  • Okay let me start by saying that I am a huge Breaking Bad fan, like this show is in my top 5 favorites of all time and if you haven't seen it I encourage you to watch it. That being said, I think that the character dolls being sold in Toys R Us is going too far. This is an adult show! The dolls were designed for children 15+ but this is definitely an R rated show. Walter White comes with beakers and his famous meth suit, while Walter White as Heisenberg features a handgun.

  • @Texasmama786 and other Breaking Bad fans, I got really excited a few days ago becuase there was a story about them deciding to make a Season 6... Sounded too good to be true and looks like Aaron Paul recently confirmed that it's just a rumor. Oh how I'd love some more Walter White, but it would almost make me mad if they did that big finale and then decided to milk another season.

  • I'm feeling so bummy lately. I've been crazy busy at work, and everything has been getting on my nerves. I haven't even felt like contributing on TB lately. Ugh. I hope I snap out of this funk soon...

For now, my Tuesday random is more of a bitch...

I got into an argument with H last night. There wasn't any resolution to it last night (which really doesn't sit well with me, but I was trying to respect his wishes to not argue over something that he didn't see as warranting an argument) and we've barely spoken today. It's bothering me, and making me feel even more distant than I already do.

I just feel like I don't have the energy for anything. I don't want to go to work. I don't want to play with DS. I don't want to do anything. I just want to go back to bed. I'm worried.

  • @aerotigergirl ((hugs)) Will you feel better if you explain how you feel about the situation to your H rather than "argue" about it?  Sometimes I ask DH to just listen even if he disagrees (in turn, I agree to listen to him) and often one of us magically understands the other's position - or we agree to disagree but we've done so without arguing and with fully understanding where the other person is coming from.

  • @peggels24 adn @MusicFanatic - Thanks. We will get it worked out eventually. This argument wasn't particularly nasty or anything (no raised voices or anything like that). We are (after many years of trail and lots of error) decent at communicating fairly, which I think goes a long way. I just had some hurt feelings at the end of it, and they're still lingering today. To be completely honest, I think I'm just teetering right on the edge of depression again. I generally feel pretty hopeless and my outlook has sort of taken a nosedive in the last couple of weeks. I've been trying to wait it out, but it may be time to talk to my doc about changing my zoloft dose to pull me back out of this funk I'm in.

They aren't doing a new season, but they ARE doing a prequel/backstory type thing: "Better Call Saul"! They have stated that there may be some time jumping. Who knows, maybe WW and Jessie will make an appearance at some point!

  • So, I was calling day cares on my way home to compare, and I was using the "Ok Google" voice thing on my phone so I wouldn't have to type and drive.  I said "Discovery Pointe Duluth" and somehow my phone recognized that as "furry porn" - ummmm, what??

I am freaking out a little about the cost of day care.... and about day care in general.  Right now it isn't feasible for one of us to stay home, so it has to happen, and I am fine with that.  J's daughters' mom works at one, I know how amazing they can be. And I honestly don't think I could be a full time SAHM, I would need a part time thing.  But I just keep thinking, what if I miss her first steps or her first word? I would be devastated.....  C'mon America, get with the program and get us better parental leaves!!

I totally hear you here. Everyone always says "start a college fund for your child right away!" But everyone also fails to mention that daycare may cost you as much as college tuition. From the time DS was born until he was nearly 3, I was able to work part-time and have him in daycare only part-time. It was a good setup for us (financially and also because I didn't want to give up my career entirely) for a long time, but now I'm working full time again. This one will be in daycare full time from 12 weeks on. I can't afford to work half-time and pay for half-time daycare for two. I either have to quit entirely and be a SAHM, or work full time. It is hard.

  • @ladyamanuet‌, my SIL has her 3 kids at Discovery Pointe Duluth, and she loves it.
  • @ladyamanuet - I totally understand. When this one comes, we'll be spending more on daycare than we will be spending on a mortgage payment every month.

I just keep telling myself: "It's only a year and a half with 2 in daycare before DS starts school, so I can make it for 18 months, right?"

  • @aerotigergirl‌ - I warned DH a long time ago that if we had a girl, she's getting a cute chin length bob cut until she's old enough to decide if she wants to take care of long hair. I never grow my own hair past my chin - I don't have patience for that on a little human either!
