Re: Second and Third Trimester Discussion (10/20)

  • Does anyone else's LO push so much, very low, that they feel like they are going to push themselves right out? I don't remember this with DS. I'm not talking about the cervical kicks, but rather a forceful pushing. This little girl seems to be doing this in a daily basis. It is so uncomfortable and if I am standing/walking I have to stop and sit.

I don't know if she just likes to hang out very low or what.

I haven't but a co-worker discussed this phenomenon with me just a few days ago.  She told me with her first, she always felt like LO was about to fall right out.

    My question ...

Best remedy for a super painful hemorrhoid? This redefines butthurt!  I've tried Tucks with witch hazel, Prep H and icing my rear.  The ice seems to help best but I can't really do that during the day b/c of job constraints.

    Any other ideas?

ETA: I am regular and it wasn't caused by strain, so future prevention is not really the issue. :)

  • Hey all - I'm curious what you've done for shoes for swollen feet. I've been getting away with my comfy sandals since I live in N. CA, but I don't think I can do that for ever. It does cool off. I've been looking at wide versions of warmer shoes on Zappos, but I can't seem to pull the trigger. I've got 7 more weeks to go, or so. Should I just buy something big enough for these puffy feet?

I haven't tried, but I heard a raw potato works wonders. Just slice it and hold it on it.

  • @ToriGirl2014‌ - the only thing I have ever used was a sitz bath with witch hazel. That sounds awful! I hope this resolves for you.

@megbmeg‌ - last time I wore sneakers for the last 2 months. I just kept loosening the laces. I think I could get away with some of my ballet flats, but they didn't give my feet much support and my feet were really sore by then.

  • Hi ladies! This is my first post here. I'm 14+3 today, and I've never gotten this far before. :) I have absolutely no wisdom for you on the questions asked so far (I'm learning!), but I suspect I'll need these answers before long. My only question for the group would be if anyone found anything that could conquer the fatigue. I'm really struggling over here, and my usual tricks (exercise, lots of sleep, naps, low caffeine tea, happy light, short walk) just don't cut it. Maybe this will ease soon, but it doesn't seem to be getting any better at all. I-)

  • @megbmeg‌ I'm all about comfort anymore. I asked the doc for my note at 20 weeks to wear sneakers (we have a strict dress code in my district). I don't wear them everyday, just the days that I'm achy. I mostly wear my slip ons. I wish my students would allow me to sit, but they are not good independent workers.

Those are the worst. I find that aloe vera helps a bit and so do baths. Fiber gummies/pills can help to soften too. Someone once mentioned garlic but that seems weird to put up there ;)

I have been feeling him since about 19/20 weeks. I was concerned and then found out that I have an anterior placenta. Daily movement isn't typical until 22ish weeks my doctor told me.
  • Thanks ladies!  I will try anything so all of the suggestions are much appreciated!  I think a bath is in order tonight.

@megbmeg - have you tried compression hose to try to get the swelling down?  I love those things and maybe you can salvage some of your shoe collection this way. :)

  • @megbmeg I bought a pair of work flats a size up a month or 2 ago and have been trying to get by with those and sneakers, but the flats are now uncomfortable and I can't reach to lace/tie sneakers.  So this weekend I bought a 2nd pair of shoes a size up, they're hideous but SO comfortable, I feel like a new woman, lol :-)  Ha ha.  I highly recommend something like these, they're light, they stretch, and they have no laces!  Not exactly professional, but at 38 weeks I don't think that anyone notices my feet anymore and I really don't care if they do.  They're probably going to be the difference between starting mat. leave early and making it to labor.

@BackstreetPixie I didn't feel the baby move until closer to 20 weeks.

@shaddox16 I'm working for as long as I possibly can, hopefully up to labor.  It's uncomfortable but I'm just forcing it because I want every day of the 12 weeks at home.  My EDD is a Tuesday so I'll work through Friday of that week, then the following Monday if the baby isn't here I'll use a personal day, then Tuesday is a holiday, and I would likely be induced Wed/Thurs.  That's the plan at least!

  • @shaddox16‌ - with DS I did work until I went into labor. I actually started contracting as soon as I got home from work, and delivered the next day. I would like to do the same this time.

@BackstreetPixie‌ - I have always felt movement at 15 weeks, but not kicks, it was more like a "rolling" feeling. I don't think I could identify kicks until 18/19. Hang in there, it will come.

@Happyin14‌ - I used one for 1 day. It was my niece's baptism and I was only 3 weeks post partum. It was so uncomfortable that I took it off as soon as we left the church.

Yes! This baby is breech so far (which may explain it since DD was always cephalic), but sometimes he kicks down there and I swear his foot is going to come out my backdoor. Also I think the ligaments/muscles down there in my pelvic floor are like, OH WELL WHATEVER since this is baby 3 (second delivery hopefully!)

I have a question for STMs. Has anyone heard of or tried cord care powder? Would you recommend it?
You don't need to put anything on the cord. Not alcohol, not anything. it just heals and you leave it alone. Save your benjamins for the nice nipple butter and a bottle of champagne.
Same advice here. The only thing we ever did was put some alcohol on a cotton swab to wipe away some of the dried blood (recommended by the pediatrician). Healed into a cute little belly button.

Thanks for the feedback on binders. Again, I don't really care about how fast I shrink... But if I ended up with a c-section, wondering if it helps recovery. But sounding like it's not worth the money.
FWIW, I couldn't use mine after c-section anyway. The bottom edge of it hit directly on my incision so it hurt every time I stood up or sat down. Might be my size tho, I'm 5'3" so not the tallest.

  • @amanda33758 I started registering at 22 weeks :)

    I have two questions:

    1. STMs did you leak colostrum during pregnancy?
    2. If you breastfed and didn't leak, did you have enough supply?

I'm not leaking but A LOT of ppl I know or talked to did.  I'm nervous about breastfeeding and was just curious.

I never leaked during pregnancy but had a definite change in the size of my boobs (much bigger) and overall texture (heavier).

We had a hard time getting started breastfeeding because DD went to the NICU so I initiated breastfeeding with the Medela pump in the hospital, not with my baby. We used the nipple shield and then graduated to nothing at all, and she drank breastmilk for nearly 12 months. But I made exactly as much milk as she needed. What I would bring home from pumping at work was what we needed the next day. The only reason I had milk in supply was that I started pumping and banking the milk about 4-5 weeks post partum, 1-2 times a day, after she ate and mostly in the morning.

With each pregnancy you get more milk making tissue so that's good news. Hopefully I will have a surplus this time.

  • @jesswein9 - I just got off the treadmill, where I did my first teeny bit of jogging but more walking uphill. You'd be amazed how much walking uphill constantly will get your heartrate up! In addition, I've been searching for prenatal workout videos. I have this one, and it's okay, but I'd love to expand. There are a bunch of videos on youtube, but I haven't found one I'd recommend yet.

I asked my doctor about leaking because I haven't really had much other than from one side for a day or two maybe around 33 or 34 weeks and nothing since and my doctor said that some people do and some don't and that I shouldn't be concerned. You can leak from nipple stimulation/intercourse etc.

  • Looks like I am a little late to the party.

Shoes: I wear slippers at home and Dan form shoes with a little cushion and heel because I cannot wear flats anymore with the back pain.

I registered at 21 weeks after we knew that LO is a boy :-) but I had been researching since 18 wks.

Today is my last day of work (39 wks 2 days). I didn't want to go too early because I don't want to be bored lol

Has anyone been getting tension headaches? I have had these along with some slight nausea. I wonder if it could be the primrose that my O.B. has me taking. Also I have had some serious cramps after walking short distances.

  • I started my registry around 20 weeks. I used Amazon and have been happy with it, but I've never registered anywhere else so who knows how it compares.

I do a prenatal pilates DVD I really like: 10 Minute Solution Prenatal Pilates.  I haven't looked but I bet you could find it on youtube...

  • I added stuff to a secret amazon wish list early as I heard about good products. We officially registered at 20/21 weeks.

I do prenatal yoga and a prenatal exercise video. In the video, there are still exercises on your back, but it's on pillows so you're laying at an angle.
