Hi ladies!
I am over from the Oct '14 board and am starting to pump.
By looking at all the pictures on how the breast shield should fit, the 21mm ( the smallest size) is still too big! It pulls in quite a bit of the Areola. This results in only a few drops per breast after 25 min of pumping. But when I hand express i get milk everywhere so I know I am producing!
My next step is to call medela but I wanted to ask here first.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Any tips?
Thanks Ladies!! It's much appreciated!
Re: Medela 21mm small breast shield big?!
Also, did you just start pumping? What time of day do you pump? It's normal in the beginning to see small pumping output. The pump just isnt as efficient as baby. Don't lose hope. Your best bet is to pump after the first morning feeding, since this is when your supply is higher. Or you can pump one side while LO nurses from the other. Do this at around the same time, every day for a few days, and you should start to see an increase.
Yes I did just start pumping. I will definitely do that for sure!
Thank you
I tried putting the ameda soft inserts in them to make it even smaller but while they actually seemed to make the flanges the "right" size, they REALLY hurt. I think the pictures don't work for everyone. See what's comfortable for you.
I'm just trying to make sense of things :-)
