This is my last week before I start work. the boys are doing longer days at school as a transition. I'm having huge mom guilt. I'm hoping it will get better when I'm actually working. Right now I'm just sitting on the couch trying to rest and get better, the house is so quiet.

I'm sad I'm at work today. DS was pretty good all weekend. We had 2 full days with DH since he's been working long hours. It was nice to get things done around the house but be able to do things as a family too. DS actually gave me a huge hug and told me not to go to work today. Talk about break my heart.

I ate too much crappy food however. Although my pants are tighter, the might end up being when the bad food finally catches up with me! 41 days til Mexico!

I'm still trying to normalize our life after visiting in-laws for a week. It was nice to see family, but man is it hard to stay in someone else's home for that long. It was an interesting experience, that we're not planning to repeat anytime soon for a variety of reasons.

Also, a 5/6 hour flight with 2 year olds is cruel type of torture for everyone involved.

Both kids escaped the PnPs while away. They now climb out of the crib at every nap. We're making the switch tonight. I'm almost positive I'm never sleeping again.

Good luck! Hopefully it will be an easy transition for them.

  • That sounds so fun @hmp1.

I am struggling with balancing things that will help raise my self esteem and general health (working out) and my mom guilt.  I am away from Luci so much already that I am having a hard time justifying any additional time away from her.  Everyone keeps telling me that getting healthier and in better shape is just as much for her as it is for me, but seriously, I just can't take more time away from her.  I also can't get a decent work out in with her, because she will have none of it.

We had parties set up with seven vendors as a get a jump start on your Christmas shopping thing.  It didn't work out.  Barely anyone ordered and I am totally disappointed.

Can you get a workout in after she goes to sleep? I know it is hard to start the routine but once you are in it, it will be easier.

The Mom guilt is tough.  Eventually you just have to get yourself there.  No matter how many people tell you it's okay, until you let yourself feel good about time away from Luci, you won't do it.

I work a lot of hours and I was definitely having a hard time fitting in a workout.  Overtime I've found a few ways to make myself feel less guilty about the time away.  First, was just dedicating one night to a workout.  DH is in a bowling league on Thursday nights, so last winter I made Monday nights my workout night.  I wasn't home for dinner and bed and I just had to be okay with missing one night a week.

Also - we joined a gym with childcare during the winter last year and the kids loved playing there so much that they were as excited to go to the gym as we were.  It also allowed DH and I time to workout together - so then I could also justify it as "wife" time as well.  :)

I never get rid of the mom guilt, but I know when I workout I have more energy for the kids and feel less stressed when I am with them.  So it's definitely improving my kid-time in quality, even though I lose it in quantity.

Someone suggested morning or nights for working out. Another option is your lunch break? I'm not sure how much time you get but I go on lunch. The gym is 5 minutes away. I change at work, workout and then change at the gym to come back. It works for me and my schedule. Just another option.

  • @hmp1 - I love the yoga party idea.  I am totally going to do some research to see if there is anything like that around here.  Winter parties are tough!

@holly_1007 - I hope you're feeling better soon!  Hopefully you can use as much time this week to feel better prior to starting work.  Soak up that couch time!

I have a feeling my week is going to be a bit crazy.  My counterpart at work is on vacation so I expect my boss will be sending extra things my way.  It's only fair since I know she helps out when I'm gone.  This morning already started off crazy and I don't expect it to slow down too much.

Any chance of some workouts being stuff you can do together?  Like walking/running with her in the stroller (I know the weather is turning and this won't work forever) or a mom-tot routine that incorporates her so it's fun for her (and she lets you do it)?  DD loves "helping" her dad with pushups and squats (he says she's worse than a personal trainer--"More squat! More!").

One thing that helps me is to think of how I use my time as fulfilling more than one "criteria"--like if I go running with DD in the stroller, it's "us" time, which I value, being outdoors, which I love, and working out, which is good for me.  Maybe if you can find ways of working out that fulfill multiple "life needs"--even if that's "health, me-time, and catching up on my reading on the treadmill"?  It helps me justify taking time away from DD if I can quantify that it's not fulfilling multiple needs.  (And if it doesn't...maybe it's not the best workout choice for you!)

  • I need a dish washer. I can't pick one.  Too many.

Grace seems to be just one long tantrum/whine these days.

I no longer have a gym membership. I'm feeling the lack of exercise. I'm not one for in home stuff it just feels like a waste to me. I can't even go out my front door and go for a walk. f

We should hopefully know what we are having on Saturday!

My house is a disaster and Grace just makes a bigger mess than the one I am cleaning at the same time.  I want to just throw everything out. All of it. If money were of no object maybe I would.

DH still hasn't taken care of our woodstove so the house is chilly. I don't want to turn the heat on yet. I want the wood stove working. I wish he would understand when things are a priority to me and maybe take that into consideration sometimes.

  • I was going to go grocery shopping this morning while Nola was at school but my messy living room and kitchen we're making me grumpy, so I cleaned instead. Now I have to go to the store with both kids. It'll probably be a "pickup stuff to make dinner and a few essentials" trip. She won't stay seated in the buggy anymore and none of my tricks work, so the store with Nola is no fun right now. Every store needs to have racecar buggies like Lowe's. She's very well behaved in those.

@willy_gert‌ and @redneckmomma25‌, at home workouts may not seem ideal but it's really the best way I've found to get a workout in. I used to wake up super early to get them done but now I just do it during naptime. A lot of programs have quick 20-30 minute workouts that really produce results!! Maybe after bedtime is a good time to try it, @willy_gert‌ (if waking up early doesn't work...I can never commit to that long term myself). I know how frustrating it is to workout with the little one running around, so I always try my best to get it in when they're sleeping.

  • I really wish I didn't care so much about football. My Saints are having a really off season and keep losing games in the last few minutes. It put me in a bad mood yesterday and I just couldn't shake it. I'm pretty much over it now. It's fun to care when they're having a good season, but the hard seasons make it rough. I don't have as much free time to care anymore so I try really hard not to let it affect me...but it's football, man!

At least Clemson is doing decent so it's not a complete loss of a football season for me.

So, random story, last night our baby monitor started picking up another baby monitor.  It was so creepy because we could hear a baby crying and lullaby music and it took a few minutes to figure out where it was coming from!  SO CREEPY!  It makes me wonder if they can ever hear ours!

    hey y'all.
@Redneckmomma25 We just picked out a new dishwasher this weekend. E usually doesn't mess with anything, but he took a popsicle stick off of an art project and put it into the drying vent of the dishwasher. The dishwasher in this house is really crappy and I told DH I wanted one for Christmas anyway... so Christmas is coming early. haha.
E told the man at Best Buy, "I stuck popsicle stick in old dishwasher." Yup. totally a good recap of that one. We went with a Bosch with the buttons on the top lip so that he can't push them on.

DH is traveling for work. E and I were running late this morning because we took the dog on a walk. E tripped and hit his head outside and has a huge nasty goose egg. He seemed fine but it looked terrible and the look on his teachers' face when I dropped him off was not her usual look.

We replaced our dishwasher last year and also got a Bosch with the hidden buttons.

  • @willy_gert‌ that's crazy! It would creep me out, too!

Also, might I suggest the 21 day fix as a good starting point for at home workouts? I'm not a beachbody coach or anything, so I'm not trying to sell you anything (and I really don't even know how much it costs). But, I'm really wanting to try it myself. The workouts are short and it comes with these containers that help guide you through a full nutritional program. The people I know that have done it have gotten great results!!

We're on the hunt for a dishwasher too, @redneckmomma25

I really wanted to hold out until we were ready to remodel our kitchen, but our dishwasher is horrible. Like, I have to wash the dishes after I take them out of the "dishwasher".

Weird question -- do you think the brands of your kitchen appliances need to be the same?
Mine will not be the same. Our fridge is GE, our dishwasher is Bosch, and when we get around to remodeling our kitchen, my range will most likely be a Viking. They will all match in color though, except the Viking that will be SS and a pop color.

  • Our Fridge is Kitchen aid. Oven is an old whirlpool. stove top is a ge i think. The dishwasher is a whirlpool and it really doesn't work.

I'm not brand loyal just want to make sure it is a good one but reviews seem to be all over the place on everything so I have no idea where to go. I want stainless steel with the top buttons.

The reason why I feel like home workouts are pointless for me is because I have so far to go. If I could burn a ton of calories in a half an hour like I can at the gym, I would be more apt to do it. I'm also to the point where I just want to find a doctor that will prescribe me drugs after the baby is born. I don't even care anymore. I just want help. Busting my butt to lose a pound when I have 70 more to go just doesn't motivate me. My sister is having weight loss surgery in January and I am super jealous. Neither one of us have any health issues related to being overweight she just has a higher BMI and her state insurance will cover it all. I'm pretty sure my plan does not. So I'm really just pissed/depressed/sad at my current state and situation.

  • We have gone with same color but different brands for our appliances, our dishwasher is also a Bosch with hidden buttons it is AMAZING. If you have an ApplianceSmart near you check them out, we got our dishwasher for about $200 brand new in the box because it had been in the store for more than 3 months.

What's up.  I'm eating lunch!!!  I have 100 stories about my recent work trips but they're all trivial and nobody cares.  I'm sharing a room with an inconsiderate coworker, so the stories overfloweth.  :D

But here's a story from another doofis:  A coworker brought me lunch - very thoughtful!  Got himself a huge sandwich with a bag of chips.  Brought me a microscopic side salad (a salad in a hot dog container) with two saltine crackers.  WHAT?  Dude.  I ate it and now I'm like - what's next?

    ------------------------------------
This was supposed to be a separate post.  WTF bump.

My mom and wife guilt is going to kill me!!!  I think it's pregnancy hormones + traveling so much?  I dunno, it's just CRAZY intense guilt lately.  I have a major confession.....  I got home on Thursday morning and left again on Saturday.  DH and I barely even hugged in between :(  He has a cold so I'd love to say that was the reason.  I love him so much and I really wish we had more intimacy.  Honestly it's my lack of cleaning and household duties that ruin it for him.  I can't work a billion hours and be Mrs. Cleaver!  I suck!

  • @jenndub THanks for making me feel better!  DH does clean, he pretty much keeps the house running :(  And I shouldn't even say that I can't be June Cleaver.  I can't even be Ren & Stimpy, haha.  I would say DH does 85% of the housework.  I definitely need to do more :(

Also I want to complain about my insurance.  I pay $1250/mo for me and Winn. :(  It is going up to $1395 next renewal, and that doesn't include the new minion.   :(  DH has his own through work that only costs us $150 because his work pays $500.

Anyway, I have a 4k deductible, then I pay 20% of costs until I hit another 4k (8k max out of pocket), and then they pay 100%..... IF it's something they cover -and they are fucking slimeballs about that.  There are no copays... I pay 100% net 30 days from doc visits.  Any pharmacy is tied into that same 4k deductible, so I pay 100% of all meds until I hit the 4k (then I pay 20%).

So W's EKG was $2840.  Her antibiotic and steroid last time were $280.  Her albuterol was $140 and her new inhaled steroid we picked up this week was $510!  HOLY SHIT!   :(  We haven't gotten a bill for her chest xray yet :(  And we've paid $480 in doc visits so far.  MOTHERFUCKER.

When Winn was born, we hit max out of pocket $8k in 2012 plus some other fucked up $1k+ that ins didn't cover, max $8k in 2013 when she was hospitalized for RSV, looks like we're heading towards at least hitting the $4k this year, and next year I am having a baby so I guarantee max OOP.  I just feel like we can't win with this medical stuff.  I pay out the ass for insurance, and then more when I use it, and I still have to seriously contemplate an ER visit even if I think I really need it because it is SO effing expensive.  :(  Lots of sad faces here.

Try PiYo by Beachbody. Seriously the longest workout is 50 minutes? Shortest 18. You'll be dripping in sweat even at 10 minutes. It' helps so much with flexibility. As for starting, you actually have to. Don't look at how far you have to go, look at how far you've come. Also don't gage your weightloss now on where you used to be. Like if you gained weight back don't look at 20 lbs lighter. You have to start somewhere.

That is a ton of money OOP for you and W. Have you looked into other insurance plans or all on DH's? We pay $146 every 2 weeks for DH, DS and I on the family plan. We have $2K HRA then it goes to $3K OOP then everything is covered 100%.

  • THT, I hear you on insurance!  We pay $192.50 every two weeks for the three of us.  We have a $6K family deductible and then everything but meds are covered after that at 100%.  Meds are reduced but it is hell of expensive.  The only thing that has helped us this year is DH qualifying for Medicare.  It has covered a lot of his $3K in deductible.

I feel like an old miser about this but seriously!  I am so tired of paying more money for less service, goods, etc.  Like internet, we used to pay $31 for unlimited, now we pay $40 for 150 GBs.  Its thievery I tell you!  By the way, get off my lawn!

This actually just came up since we're building a new house.  The builder offered Whirlpool for Dishwasher and Microwave, but we wanted to upgrade from the base version.  Since we picked GE for our fridge and range, we went with GE for microwave and dishwasher.

I tried to convince DH to go with a slightly cheaper whirlpool microwave and he wanted to keep it GE because he wanted all the appliances to be the same brand (and color).

So, there's apparently one person who thinks it matters (but he's wrong ;) ).

Also - hidden dishwasher buttons are the way to go!

That is absolutely fucking horrible.  The best thing about this job is the insurance.  It happened to be perfect timing that I found out I was KU 1 month before I was hired.

H's insurance sucks, but he never goes to the doctor, so I let him stay on his own.  I have Ben on mine, and I'm adding Hannah next month for open enrollment.  Unfortunately she had to have her tubes put in before I could get her on my insurance.  That should be an interesting bill.

  • I've been kind of a rock star at work today, so I feel like I've earned myself some slacking/bump time.  Please see the thread I plan to post momentarily soliciting decorating advice for my kids' bedrooms. K, thx.

  • This is my last week before I start work. the boys are doing longer days at school as a transition. I'm having huge mom guilt. I'm hoping it will get better when I'm actually working. Right now I'm just sitting on the couch trying to rest and get better, the house is so quiet.
They are going to be fine, and you are going to rock this new job. All transitions are hard, and sometimes it doesn't even hit you right away. But it's all good changes!
