First test: how will this stand up to name-calling in Middle school? Am I making my kid a target?
Second test: How will this name look on a 30 year old's resume. Am I predisposing employers to pass over hiring my kid with a childish/badly spelled/esoteric/made up name?
I don't mind Jax but I unfortunately fall into that small category of people that likes the trendy hip different type of name. (To an extent) I don't like the over the top weird but I do like some of the "cool" new names.
Most of my friends have gone with traditional names like Jack, Luke, etc. and I love those names too but I personally don't have a traditional name so I couldn't picture my kids with something super traditional.
My recommendation is to leave it for a little bit. DH and I are having a hard time agreeing on names, and we've decided to not talk about it for a while, and come back to it when we're closer. I know you really want to name your baby now, (I do too!) but sometimes it is better to wait and think about it more. You still have a lot of time to decide.
ETA: I also thought your options of Brett and Wyatt were very solid choices, and went well with your DDs name.
He'll be all set for his first trip to New Orleans in 2036. (Jax is a now defunct beer brand out of New Orleans. It lives on in a shopping center called Jax Brewery in the French Quarter). Beer is all I think of when I hear Jax. That and maybe biker gang member.
One more point. Your DD is Shelby, right! I would a absolutely NOT used Jax or Jaxson or varient. Have you ever seen Steel Magnolias? Tr story centers around Shelby, who is married to Jackson. I do not recommend giving your sibling children the names of famous couples.
My sons name is Jaxon and we call him Jax for short. I always loved the name and still very much do. I guess I never really thought of his name as trendy. I have met one other jaxon, jackson, his age where I live. Good luck!

And I agree with just not talking about it for awhile. It's stressing me out which is so dumb but true!!
I need to get out more.
