Baby Boy Nursery Themes

There are so many cute ideas out there, and my husband and I are torn.  Any suggestions?

  • If this baby is a boy we will do a more classic sports themed room, meaning one that's not all whimsical but one that he could grow into.

My H is a huge sports nut and has an alarming amount of memorabilia that he's always dreamed of passing down to his son so having a sports themed room will just set the stage for the more expensive pieces to eventually make it to his room.

  • I'm into safari animals and under the sea, my husband doesn't care but loves sports. We're making his man cave the nursery which is already covered in my husbands sports stuff, but I feel like it's too mature for baby.  I was hoping to get an idea from here that maybe I haven't seen already.  They're all so cute!
  • We did a dinosaur theme wall stickers, door stop, book ends, curtain tie backs, lamp, toy box, wall clock, cot bedding all dinosaurs :) I went a little crazy lol but I love it!!!

This is what we did with my sons room. We even got a black and white action shot of my husband when he used to play football in college and got it made into a big canvas. He can definitely grow into this room for sure. At our baby shower our guestbook was a football and baseball that people signed and we have them on a shelf in his room.

  • We are just going simple. Probably gray or creme. When he is older I want to do a jungle theme for the bedroom - complete with monkey bars in the ceiling and a swinging vine. He will move into our largest guest room then. But the nursery will turn back into our small guest room when he is older so I don't want to go over the top when he will only be in there for 2 years or so.

  • We are doing sailboats with blues and greens.

    Lilypie Angel and Memorial tickers
  • We are doing a space/sciance themed room. My h is a scientist, and we can't help but want our little one to love science as much as we do.

  • I've seen some people mention doing a Harry Potter theme, which I think is absolutely adorable! They sell cute prints on etsy and most elements wouldn't look too little kiddie in my opinion. If this LO had been a boy that was our pick for nursery "theme"

Good luck and have fun deciding! :)
  • We're doing a nautical theme for DS.  Classy, and will grow with him.

Mama to Rowan Sebastian and baby boy coming in April!

  • No matter what the sex of the baby is, we are probably going to do patterns rather then a "theme".  I feel like a lot of the baby themes are very cutesy and I won't like as much as the baby gets older.

  • We are going to have a camping theme. A little play teepee tent in the corner and I'll hang some animal pics of bears or something on the walls. Then I'll put glowing stars on the ceiling. My husband of course wants to paint a huge Cowboy's star under the ceiling fan. I think it'll be cute with his theme though.

My daughter has an under the sea theme which is really cute too. Blue and grey walls with pink accents. I may need to update her room though because the glowing stars are going to be so cool.

  • We're using colors & elements from Where the Wild Things Are. We have a WTWTA print that hing in DH's room as a child that we will hang in the nursery. There a a couple of WTWTA specific items we will order from Etsy, but mostly it's colors and woodsy type stuff for decor.

I don't like themes unless it's really subtle (Winnie the Pooh bedding, wall hangings, etc. would be a no-go in my book, just as an example).  But something like woodland creatures, nautical, beach, sports, travel (globe, maps, etc.) -- as long as tasteful and not over the top -- would be cute.

  • I'm having a boy this time around, and we're going with SUPERHEROS!! I love them so hopefully he will to. I found these cute wooden signs that say "bang" "pow" "zap". He'll have a few other superhero things to. I'm working on a Justice league mobile right now. I'm completely excited. Plus I think it can grow with him.

Love this! And am super impressed with anything homemade. My first little guy just moved into his big boy room which is minions his favorite & the nursery is a baby animal with numbers & letters theme. But I have to say since we were team green last time I loved the bedding & everything but since we know it's a boy this time I kind of wanna switch it up. I love the nautical theme or I saw a super cute monsters inc set at babies r us. Would prob only bother if one of the grandparents wanted to take us shopping!
  • We did a nautical theme for DS.  I really like it.  It's not overly "baby" so it will grow with him until he decides he wants something else.

@kdeanda I'm not sure if you're a Sam's Club member but they have an adorable teepee that is green/white striped for only $60! The ones I've seen on etsy are more than double that. You should check it out!
  • SO and i are weirdly obsessed with the bear theme. Lol our little "baby cub" :-D cheesy i know but it's cute to us! Haha i swear every piece of clothing we have bought so far either has bear ears attached or a picture of a bear on it hehe the shoes even have ears! So needless to say we're going with the bear thing and not like Bernstein or Steiff or Pooh or any brand name icon bear thing just a variety of cute little bear stuff. Although pooh might end up in there cuz i love Pooh hehe :) good luck!

  • I don't know why but I love the monster theme for a boy nursery! The theme I really loved was discontinued :( but the monsters inc one is super adorable too. I guess once we find out the sex I can reapproach looking at nursery stuff :)

  • No matter the sex we are going pretty neutral (even though we are finding out the babies sex). We figure they can make it their own as they get older. Who knows! Maybe we will have a girl who prefers blue or a boy who prefers pink.

Anyhow, we are going to do a bit of a mountain/woodland vibe when it comes to the decor since we live in the Rockies.

    Married: 9/29/12

    DS #1: 3/8/15

  • No theme paint the walls blue. Have probably cars bedding. I want him to grow up with his room not decorate it again when he is like 1 2.
  • So the more I'm thinking, since I like everything related to little boys (cars, nautical, sea life, safari, sports, planes, boats, etc), we'll probably just go with colors (blue and green or something) and then incorporate cute things here and there. I'm OCD so I think if we did a sea life theme, and someone bought us a safari decoration, I'd be frustrated with having to incorporate it. Weird, I know. But if I just do colors, then I can put whatever I want on the walls and shelves.  I think settling on a theme is going to limit me in all the cute boy stuff out there I guess.  I love them all!

Oh wow! thanks! I'll have to take a look. sounds like it would be perfect.
  • No real theme. Just keeping it simple, minimalistic, baby chic. Grey, white, and yellow with some Chevron accents. We want a more mature nursery that he can grow into as well.
  • I'm doing woodland theme I'm in the great white norths Rockies!

  • I will forever avoid sports-themed anything for my son. Clothes, room decor, etc. --- my brother was sorta forced into sports as a kid, had an all-boy sports room, and then turned out to hate sports. He loved music & dance. I think the sports pressure made it harder for him to be who he really is. Of course a nursery is more for parent than baby, but the thing w/ my bro left a bad taste in my mouth about sports themes at any age!

(Ironically my brother's nursery theme? Rainbows. Everywhere. And yes, he's gay. We laugh about it now!!)

I'm avoiding sports themes for this reason as well. My bro is gay and although he will watch a football game for fun, not really into it. DH thought I was crazy when I said no sports theme. Told him what if he comes out fabulously gay? DH thinks for a minute and says, "Then he better be a champion ice skater"! I was rolling!! Lol.
  • Noah's Ark!!!!
  • @Shanniegal‌ hehe SO and i have an inside joke about bears so we have been calling our LO our "baby cub". My friends think im cheesy and laugh at me but we think it's cute hehe

  • My husband Does construction so I wanted to do a construction/tool garage theme or a moon and stars theme
  • I had to paint the walls before we knew the sex so we went with light gray knowing I could make it girl or boy. Well...we found in Friday its a BOY!! I'm doing light gray/blue with hints of woodland (bear, moose, deer, etc) since we live in maine. This is the bedding I'm getting.

We didn't want the typical nurseries of sports, cars, planes or boats, which seemed to be everywhere, so I found a cute baby Monster theme at BRU. For this baby we talked about doing a shark theme if it was a boy. :)
