Bubbly ...Rx Question

Do you know why...someone would write Augmentine for an 18 month old for 600mg/5mL 2 times a day.  Thats 1200 a day right?

But...for a 2.5 year old they would write Augmentine for 200mg/5mL 3 times a day at 4mL...meaning less than 600mg per day total?

Does that seem right?

Both kids are on round 3 of antibotics for ear infections.  I have a call in with my doctor but I haven't heard back yet.  I am terrified that DS1 won't clear up because they low dosed him.

Re: Bubbly ...Rx Question

  • Has the younger one been sick more than the older one?  If so, they may be trying to compensate for resistance if they've been on antibiotics more often than the older one.  BUT the older ones dose seems way too low.  That doesn't seem right.

  • Okay.  Good!

They have both been simutaneouly sick with ear infections.

DS1 went from azithromax (sp?) to omnicef, and now to this 200mg/5mL although this is down to only one ear being infected from a double.

DS2 went from amoxicilian to omicef to augmentin, his has stayed a double infection the entire time.

My fear is with it going from a double down to a single, and now this low dose he will be back to a raging double.

He was already telling me his ear does not feel good and doctor check it last night.  Ugh.  I think the next step is shots for both of them if these don't clear...that will suck!

  • Ugh.  EIs are bad enough with one, I can't imagine two with doubles.  I hope this round clears things up for them.  Poor little guys.
