Am I the only one NOT doing maternity pictures?

Just curious if anyone else isn't doing maternity pics? I wouldn't mind doing them but $ is tight so just passed on the idea. This is our one & only pregnancy as I am 40 and we had to do IVF for this pregnancy. I'm beginning to wonder if I'll regret not having them done.

Re: Am I the only one NOT doing maternity pictures?

  • I am a photographer and hear from people alllllllll the time how much they wish they had gotten them done.

Maybe check around and see if there are any students looking to build a portfolio, or pros looking for models for workshops? Having a student do them imight not be as great as the person you would choose to have do them if you had the $$$ but it is better than having nothing!

  • No pics for me. It's my third pregnancy and I didn't do them for my first 2 either.
  • Money is not the issue over here.  I have absolutely no interest in doing them.  I have actually not taken a single bump pic.
For me it's my first and my family lives on the opposite coast. So I kinda have to lol.
    Okay.

  • Nope spending the money on NB pics. I'm happy with a weekly bump pic taken in my bathroom

  • Not my thing at all. I'd rather have family pics as opposed to a bunch of awkward, unnaturally posed pictures of me alone :)

  • My friend who is an amazing film photographer is doing mine for free or I probably couldn't afford to have them done by someone besides my hubby with my professional camera. I'm exchanging family pictures for newborn ones too

  • No. I didn't do them with dd and I won't do them now either. I would much rather have nice photos take of LO.

  • Nope, not doing them either. Just cant bring myself to spend the money on that. I might have my friends take some nice photos outside with the all the leaves changing colors at my shower/dinner next week if the weather is nice! Hoping to get a pic of me and SO because we havent taken any pics together this whole pregnancy :)
  • My mom is going to take some pics and me and my DH once the leaves start turning. We haven't had any decent pics together since we got married 3years ago. But def not spending a load of money to capture these moments. I have much more important things to spend my money on.
  • I had planned on doing them, but 2 contributing factors have made me change my mind 1. I'm now on bed rest and not getting paid..so money is a tight. 2. I have swelling in my face. My nose and lips are very noticeably pregnant.
  • Good to hear. My two SILs who are pregnant got them done & they actually turned out cute. So I was feeling a little left out. But I like the ideas of taking photos @ the shower. Mine is this weekend so I'm going to have someone take some pics there. The hubby never takes serious photos anyways. He's always making funny faces or hand gestures so doubt he would be excited about the whole deal anyways.
  • I'm not getting them done because I do not want nor need photos of me looking like a beached whale nor do I want photos to remind me of how I currently look. Doing family photos next year because our kid will be much cuter than I while pregnant.
  • Didn't do anything professional with my first and likely won't with this one. What am I going to do with pics of me? I am not the type to put them up on walls and I don't need professional photos in an album. So no.

  • we're not doing them either and this may be our only baby as we came from IVF too. money is too tight!
  • Not doing maternity photos, not doing NB photos, sticking to the candids that I and my family will take over the course of my child's life. I much prefer photos of life as it happens to posed photos, honestly. I like photos that remind me of moments, someone's personality, etc.

I've taken a handful of bump photos just to post on HDBD, but I haven't even saved them on my phone. Luckily the internet remembers forever? I guess? ;)
    +1 for this :)

  • Glad I'm not the only one not doing it. Never really appealed to me....and now I'm almost 8 months and because I'm tall and was plus size to begin with, I barely look pregnant...which I feel would make some seriously awkward maternity photos. Imagining me holding my flabby stomach in that "pregnant" way....attempting to look pregnant. LoL.
  • I have no plans to get them.  Instead, I might get some nice professional pictures of the baby once he is here.  I'd rather have those.
  • Nope. There are a couple pics of me pregnant with DS that family took at an event and I untagged myself on fb in them- shit is rough. I don't need photo documentation to remember that.

Same as other ladies. I'm not spending money on something like that. I'd rather have the pics of my family.  We do weekly belly photos (no bare belly shots!) when we remember. I did the same with DS 11 years ago and I'm glad I did. It was hard at the time, and is now, because I wasn't thrilled with how big I was! But, it's really amazing to look back and realize what you looked like when you were pregnant. You will look normal again someday and it's hard to imagine how big your belly actually got! Plus, it's been helpful for DS to see pics from when I was pregnant with him while I've been pregnant this time. Makes him not feel left out. Odd, but true.

  • I'm having a family member do them for us. Not as high-end as professional ones would be but better than just selfie mirror pics for remembrance. ;)
  • Personally, I think the whole concept is kind of strange. I opted to not do them even though every "photographer" I know was foaming at the mouth to pose me and my husband in some field on a couch. (Weird.)
  • As long as you have a few bump pics that you have taken I doubt you will regret it.

Me too! I took one bump picture to send my aunts so they could guess the gender. That's about it.
  • Just no...I saw a picture DH took of me and DD at a pumpkin patch the other day . We do not need anymore of me! Once LO is here I will do my own of baby and DD.
  • This is my 3rd and I still have no desire for pregnancy photos, other than the ones my husband snaps for me. I do splurge on newborn pictures because tiny toes are worth documenting forever. My huge belly, not so much!! And really, who keeps maternity photos of them up on their wall or displayed around the house long term? It's an odd concept to me.
  • I'm not doing them. It was that or get a cool chandelier for the nursery, so I got the chandelier.
  • It's not my thing. I've never done maternity photos. I'm a photographer, so I will be taking her newborn photos.

  • I'm just not into seeing myself pregnant. I rather look at myself slimmer with baby in arms, lol. I have a nice camera and do photography on the side and plan on taking the newborn shots myself.

  • I did them with my first and I'm super happy I did but I'm not doing them this time around. We decided to just do newborn/sibling photos this time around . If it's your only pregnancy it might be nice for you to have them to look back and remember this time in your life .
  • My DS is getting his annual photos taken next week and the photographer is going to snap a couple of shots of me and DH as well. So, I'm not doing a classic maternity shoot but I'd like a few nice photos to document the time. It's also not adding any extra cost to the shoot. Plus we're doing the pictures outside and will hopefully get some good fall color.

    @alissendis

I was move active with my photography years ago, and loved candid/lifestyle photography. I don't care for portraiture.

I was totally the mama who took her camera to the grocery store, and took pictures of her kids when they were clearly not happy. Bahahaha. Candid shots are the best. My favorites of my kids are of them not posing or even smiling. I have a thing for moody photos.

  • Nope. I don't think this pregnancy is really about me at all. It's about the baby. I'm never interested in photos of myself.
  • We did them when I was pregnant with DD and to be honest, I'm glad I did. We don't hang them all over our house, but I love having them for keepsake and remembering that time (it's all SUCH a blur now and was only 2 years ago!). This time, we just did our family pictures for Christmas cards this morning and we tried to get some maternity ones in the mix. It wasn't the focus like last time, but I'm glad I'll at least have a few.

IF you don't want to do the whole professional thing, I totally get it. But I would recommend at least having a friend or family member snap a few photos of you and your SO. I have a couple friends that didn't and totally regret it. BUT it's your baby, your body, you decide. You still have a little time left! :)

  • Not for me. I might small a few pics myself but I don't need professional photos of me hanging up in the hallway with a pregnant belly.
