Closed, thick cervix at 39 wks & 5 days

Hi all. I just had my 39 week appt and had my cervix checked for the 1st time. Dr said that the baby is high up and that my cervix is thick and closed. My due date is Sunday the 19th. I have a follow up appt to have a sonogram done on Tuesday to check his size & to c if we've made progress. Anyone ever experience this before? I'm a FTM so I was a little bummed to find out that I haven't dilated at all. Feedback please!! Thanks in advance.

    I was 39 weeks w my first and had only dilated 1 cm but I ended up being induced.

    My MIL though went from 1cm to having the baby the next day so I wouldn't give up hope :)

    It really doesn't mean anything, although I know it's frustrating to hear.  With my first, at my 40 week appointment, I was barely a fingertip dilated.  Three days later, DS was born after only 9 hours of labor.  Hang in there.

    Yeah at 38 weeks I was 1.5 cm and 50%. I have my 39 week appt today and may just decline the check. I don't want it to give me false hope or false lack of hope! My due date is Monday.

    As a FTM though, you may as well plan going overdue! That's what I keep telling myself so I don't cry big ugly I am still pregnant tears on Monday!

    With dS1, I was 1 cm, and barely effaced at 9 am on a Tuesday, and by Wednesday at 8 am, I was holding my son in my arms (I had no medical or natural induction methods). Those checks mean little. Many women go to 41 or 42 weeks, so unless there is an issue (high blood pressure, low fluid levels, etc) there isn't a reason to be concerned or to push for an induction right now.

    I was closed at 39 weeks exactly with DS. Then at 39 weeks 3 days I started labor. With this pregnancy, I was 50% effaced and 1 cm dilated for 3 weeks before she was born. Those things don't mean a thing. Babies come when they are ready.

    I was told it doesn't matter...had my 39 week check today...soft and 30% effaced...1cm....I could have been like this for weeks!!! I've been using EPO since 38 weeks to "ripen"

    I'm also 39w 5 days and my cervix is completely closed and no effacement. As a FTM it doesn't really mean anything! You can go from 0-60 in no time flat! Everyone is different, don't be discouraged I'm right there with you!

    You could go into labor anytime in the next two weeks. Due dates are just a bell curve.

    I'm pretty sure its a sign the baby is never coming out. Most pregnantest ever.

    Everyone is different! I'm 40w4d today, and I've been 4cm and 60% effaced for more than two weeks. I had my second non-stress test this morning, and the baby is fine and totally content in there, while I'm more than ready to meet this little person! I have an induction scheduled for 10/23, but I'm hoping to not need it. Try to stay positive...your LO will make an appearance when he or she is ready :)

    I'm in the same boat too.  At 38 weeks I was 0 for 0 with no dilation or effacement.  In fact, I'd been 30% effaced at 36 weeks and then it retracted on itself again.  So that was awesome.  Going in for a check on Monday (due date) and hopeful for some movement.  While I know it doesn't indicate anything directly its certainly difficult to sit here and feel big giant pregs without any changes :-/  I totally sympathize.

    I can relate. Last Wed (37 weeks and 6 days) I was 4 cm dilated and 50% effaced, I was thinking baby would come any day, now it's Saturday over a week later and last time I was checked (last Tuesday, almost a week after) I was told I was at the exact same point and nothing had changed. I've stopped hoping and am just going with it. There's nothing I can do at this point but wait.
