We have had a friend who could be a pro but isn't really do them for us once. We didn't pay her but it was scheduled and staged so I don't know if that counts. I TRIED to pay her but she wouldn't let me.

We had newborn pics and are having a session in a couple of weeks. I would like to do professional pics every year.

This is just an expense that I can't justify in my mind. We take tons of pics (though admittedly, significantly less of our whole family), and don't have nearly enough places to display those. I don't know what we'd actually do with professional ones.

The hospital did some newborn ones that our ILs bought (we didn't buy them though, so I voted no) - and I still don't have any place proper to put them apart from in LO's photo album.

Do people display them and change the display yearly? Or maybe have a whole timeline going along a wall or something? Or use them as gifts? I'm genuinely curious.

Every year for Christmas/Holiday photo cards. We get a digital file, so no prints from the photographer.

I have a gallery wall in my house and I change the pictures up or add frames probably quarterly. I also use them as easy gifts for relatives, either framed or as a part of a photo calendar.

A local (well local then) consignment store would set up a photographer to come by and do photos every holiday, 10 minutes for $25 and they'd send you a few photos digitally. I ended up loving how they came out. I also tend to buy the groupon or livingsocial for the big chain stores to get L's photos taken every few months for not very much money, I love having them. Now I'll probably do it once a year.

@musicalsilver‌ We have some newborn pics displayed that will stay up. The other pics will probably be displayed as appropriate, and will be used for Christmas cards (I also wanna do a cool Christmas card display that shows our cards over the years, I love Christmas cards).

Similar to @kari5186‌ I do them for her too. My parents always had Sears pics of the kids done every year and put them in a gallery wall in the hall. I love to walk down that hall now and look at how we changed. But my parents were never in them and I really wish they had been.

We have a friend who is a photographer- she has done several sessions for our family (we pay her). She most recently did N's newborn shots- which included pictures of the whole family together.

We will continue to do these once a year at least. There is maybe one photo of my whole family that was taken when I was about 7. I think it is kinda sad that there are no pictures of us all together and I don't want it to be like that for B and N. There is actually one picture of everyone in my family except for me (I was taking the picture) that my mom considered a really great "family photo"- I had to point out to her that I wasn't in the picture! Apparently, 5 kids are too many to keep track of...

We had them done last fall and will do them again next year (I look more beat down now then I did at 3 mos PP and I don't need to be reminded of that). We have a family friend who did our wedding pics and she only charges $50 for family pics.

One of DH's cousins is a pretty skilled amateur photog, so we just did our Christmas card photo with her last weekend over thanksgiving. Any of the pros I've looked into around here are so expensive. If I wasn't happy with the photos we were getting I'd probably consider it. But our family pics turned out wonderful again this year so I just can't justify the expense.

I'm torn between taking pro-pics and just taking some on my nice camera and going that way. I need to do something for Christmas though!

I can't afford it right now but I stalk the photography section of kijiji for photographers who are doing free shoots to build there portfolios. I check them out before we go to make sure it's legit. My thoughts are if we get one good picture it was worth it. We went last week.
