I used to try to minimize farting near my hubby, or in bed. Now I don't care and probably toot him every night. I am pregnant dammit, and I'm not letting a precious moment of pressure release pass by for dignity.

I pull up a cheek and it's silent lol can't believe I just wrote that but it's true;)

Hah! Me too! I used to get out of bed on bad nights to avoid hotboxing the poor man with a stink bomb, but now I'm tired and already get up a lot to pee. This will be his pregnancy woe.

Do you watch Jenna marbles? Her quote about girl farts is hysterical.
Jenna Marbles said "If you've been with a woman for years, and you've never heard her fart, it's because she wears thongs. Think about it. thongs basically split your a** in half. so the cheeks never touch, and you fart is more like "wooooosh""
@racegurl87 I think it can be hard for someone working out of a house to really understand an equitable division of labor in terms of chores. It's a pretty understandable error to make (I think) but as long as you feel like you can communicate and advocate for the help you need (or will need) you have time to work it all out!
I'm a nurse, not a fucking hero, & I hate nurses who act like martyrs. I come first (basic needs only - safety, bathroom, food, water). THEN the patient.
Got grumped at for taking time to eat yesterday by a hero nurse. She regularly skips meals so she can keep seeing patients on time. I'm like - fuck the schedule. I didn't choose to be over scheduled & understaffed. I need to eat.
Then I read something about "don't blame the Dallas nurses for breaching protocol & getting ebola". (I fully agree - we don't know what happened & clearly the protocol was unclear and/or not sufficient, and little/no training provided. Blaming them is not cool.) But the article went on to say that nurses ALWAYS put patients first, and if PPE isn't readily available they will take care of the patient anyway. The author gave an example of holding an agitated HIV+ patient's hand covered in blood, without gloves. Also mentioned taking gloves off to put in IVs. I'm sorry, but NO. Don't write an article essentially saying all nurses are selfless fucking idiots. Choosing to ignore basic safety protocols is not the same as trying your best & still getting ebola. I'm not fucking touching a patient if I need PPE to be safe & there's none available. (A life/death situation is different & I would likely act.) And people who perform veinipuncture without gloves put themselves AND their pts at risk. I did not become a nurse to care for pts above all else. I know I'm a higher risk group, so if something happens despite my best efforts, that's a risk I accepted. But I will do everything I can to reduce risk to myself INCLUDING delaying non-life saving care & INCLUDING making you wait longer for your appt. I am not a martyr.

So, I'm not a nurse but I can only imagine how stressful that job might be.
I'm having a bit of trouble with your post, though. The whole ebola thing/using gloves while caring for a patient is completely understandable. And you have to make sure you are protecting yourself at all costs.
But...putting off helping a patient so you can eat? Troublesome. It's not your fault your hospital is understaffed but it's also not your patients' fault, either. And to say it's more important that you eat your lunch that helping someone who may be having really bad issues is.....I don't have the words.
Maybe I'm reading this wrong.
As someone who needs to eat at regular intervals to avoid feeling like crap and reducing my ability to function, I'd much rather have a nurse coming in ten minutes later than anticipated, but fed and working at his/her best. Regularly skipping meals and putting the nurse's health at risk doesn't seem like the best thing for the patient.
Also, I would not let anyone try to put an IV in my without gloves on! That's crazy!
DH and I fart and burp around each other at will. There may or may not be high fiving involved for particularly good ones. I've gotten so comfortable that there have been a couple of times that I have to stop myself when out of the house and remember that I'm in public and it's not appropriate to just let it go.

I'd rather have my nurses pee, eat and drink on regular intervals than get my pain mess at exactly 7:15.

I'm pregnant. I'm not going 8 hours without eating/drinking.
I work in an outpatient clinic. There are no people with "really bad issues" - just waiting for appointments. And if someone has to wait 15 more min so I can eat, they're going to have to wait. I cannot power through, nor should I have to.
When I was in the hospital & people did have "really bad issues" it was all about prioritizing. Patients could wait for a bath so I could stuff my face -- but I would never prioritize my needs over an acute problem. Sometimes I did not get to eat for 8+ hrs, but that was rare. Granola bars while charting do the trick. I wasn't thinking about hospital nursing when I posted & I can see how that looks bad -- it was actually easier to take care of myself AND my patients when I was in the hospital.
Where I work now I'm not allowed to leave the room. Literally, cannot set foot out of the room. I cannot eat--not even a granola bar--, drink--not even water--, or pee without having someone else step in for me. And when they step in, it causes a delay in patient flow. Too fucking bad. I eat as quickly as I can, but I am not going to be a caged animal so that patient flow isn't interrupted.
FFS, nurses, eat! As a patient I'd rather wait 10 minutes to pee/get my bandages changed than to have some woozy person try to stab a vein when they are fighting low blood sugar. Not to mention the tons of other stupid mistakes they could make. Thanks for the dose of heart medication for my foot, or for tagging the wrong body part to be removed. Nooooo. Fucking eat.
As far as the Ebola thing, the CDC totally tried to throw the nurses under the bus in order to save face. Thier original recommendations for protection were laughable. Basically surgery scrubs. People imagine that the 'protocols' involve hazmat suits, because that makes sense. The staff didn't get hazmat suits. They didn't even get covers for thier freaking shoes. Check out thier outfit standards from before and now:
Hb and I have gotten close to our neighbors. She will burp at times and it's whatever. One day I had a really low long rumble of a burp and she thought it was a car accident happening. I thought it sounded more like thunder.
My mom always yelled at me for burping and farting so much. But would go in the other room and burp louder. My dad always said he would never get me married off because of it.
My parents threatened to charge me $5 every time I burped if I didn't quit burping so loud on purpose. Once my brother taught me how to do it, there was no turning back! I used to beat boys in burping contests!
Now, SO and I are open about everything - burping, farting, pooping.. you name it. We don't even shut the door when we're using the bathroom and regularly talk to each other while doing so. It's just how we are. I love that I can be 100% myself around him and that there is no shame in anything between us. Plus, it will make labor & delivery that much LESS stressful because I won't care about farting/pooping/puking/etc. in front of him and neither will he.
I actually know a lady who refused to let her husband see her during labor & delivery and said she conceived both her kids with the lights off. She still changes clothes in her closet. This just blows my mind!
@Darbie914 no I totally understand -- my post was way bitchy & there can be major gray zones in prioritizing nurse's needs vs pts needs. I made it sound very black & white. I'm just mad at my hero co-worker who expects me to be anorexic despite my pregnancy. ;p
So flame free friday confessional basically turned into flame free farting confessional... I'll take it.
DH and I definitely have no boundaries when it comes to gas (burping or farting). Our one rule is that if you fart and know it's probably going to smell, you have to say "I farted." Yeah, we're real mature.
@kcbizme That is me and my H as well. No shame... we've actually shown each other some interesting poops before (like once or twice). We are disgusting. O_o
@mrsanders2013 We still do the "safety"/"doorknob" thing sometimes. While I do want to make sure our kids truly know what not to do in public, I honestly don't see any of this changing around the house. H will most definitely teach this LO to embrace the gas/potty humor, and my dad sure did that with me!
Oh, and also, MH and I do NOT fart in front of each other. Never ever except when I got my epi and couldn't feel it (that was fun) and maybe 2-3 times when he accidentally let one slip. I just laugh when that happens, but both of us agree that we would prefer not to fart in front of each other or talk about poop, farts, etc. unless necessary (like if we are sick or something).
We are both super immature when it comes to humor and he is pretty inappropriate in a lot of ways, but this is just something we both would rather keep to ourselves. Leave a little mystery, you know? Plus, it is a totally turnoff to me when a man farts and is gross when anyone does it. I don't get the humor that comes from farting on people. EEEW.
SO and i fart so much around each other that it sometimes becomes a competition i.e "my last one was SOOO much louder than that one, yours was lame" haha its fucking disgusting and hilarious at the same time. We both just crack up laughing every time like little kids. And i agree. If i can't fart around my significant other then i don't think i could be with them lol
March 15' January Siggy Callenge: Animals Being Jerks
Anyway...i did not share any of my "share size" starburst. Nope! Ate the whole damn package to myself the last 2 DAYS!! I'm not quite sure what my sudden craving for starburst is but it's something serious right now!
March 15' January Siggy Callenge: Animals Being Jerks
@drudolph11 I never share my share size candy. And since my fav indulgence during this pregnancy has been twix, I have even bought the double pack with 4 in it.. And scarfed those bad boys all by my lonesome no shame. Can't wait to bring my son trick or treating so I get all the candy.
DH will slip and fart in front of me now and then, but we usually don't. I feel like he never did until we got engaged or married and I was like, "what is this? We're married, so you can Fart now?" No thanks. Keep it to yourself.
Oh, I have another confession. I am a terrible housewife. I hate cleaning, and don't do it until it gets bad. I hate folding and putting laundry away. All our clothes are wrinkly in the dryer right now. But I just don't wanna! DH hates this, he is very neat and tidy, and hates when there are piles of mail on the counter. Never mind other crap of mine cluttered everywhere. I always say I'm gonna get better, but I don't. It's really horrible. I do feel badly, I should make more time to clean... But it's just that I can't do anything when my son is awake, and when he sleeps... General Hospital is on... So.. Yea.
@Smonet i literally can not stand any sorta nasal noise at night. No snoring, weezing, or even loud breathing, i even have a hard time with not loud breathing. Most people, including SO, just think it's me being a brat but i literally can't even explain what that type of noise does to me. It makes me so crazy i have had panic attacks from it. It's horrible. I wish i wasn't like that but ii will push SO of he starts breathing loud and like make him roll over. He gets soooo pissed every time but i can't help it. I'm so sorry for your snoring issue. I totally get it. You need to get on him about that apt asap!!!

I agree too that nurses deserve to pee, eat etc and that these nurses are not to blame in any way (except for maybe choosing to travel out of state).
But as someone who was at the mercy of someone who was in charge of my pain meds, and was directly going against my surgeon's request of pain meds every 4 hours and stretching to 5 or 6 and ignoring all the CNAs who were communicating my state I understand how important pain management is!
I went into shock multiple times because my pain meds were being so badly mismanaged, when they finally brought me my meds they had to give me so much to catch up to the pain rather than stay ahead of it that I was violently ill and suddenly I wasn't able to "handle" that type of medication so they swapped me to a much less efficient medication which hindered my recovery and ability to leave the hospital on time because it delayed my ability to achieve my physical therapy check list.
The next time I went in for the same surgery on the same side, I actually pushed myself too hard to accomplish that list so I could get the hell out of the hospital to my home care nurse and husband who would make sure I got my pain meds on time. So no, delaying someone's pain meds to pee or eat a sandwich isn't always okay. Pack protein bars!
I'm mortally fearful of being at the mercy of nurses now for any surgeries and pain management.
PSA Hip replacement surgeries on a person in their 20s is a helluva lot different than someone in their 60s and the pain management requirements and doctor requested therapies are different too!
Sorry just still some associated issues with that event.
The first time I ever farted in front of D, he responded with, "did you say something?" I laughed so hard I almost farted again.
We generally don't avoid doing it in front of each other; it's a completely normal bodily function. But we don't make a production of it either. I got that out of my system growing up with my brother.

This makes a million times more sense, and I agree 100%.
Lol you ladies make me feel like such a prude! SO totally farts in front of me, no problem...and laughs, like a 12 year old. He's even made me pull his finger.. (:| But I just can't! I never poop while he's in the house either...I can't do it in public either. I've tried! But my body will seriously not let me! It's frustrating because my stomach will hurt SO bad...but I won't be able to relieve myself no matter how hard I try! I annoy myself lol I envy all you ladies that can fart and poop at will!
My dog will hold his poop until he is about to explode, then he runs around frantically until we take him out to poop...we call this a poo-mergency. This has carried over into our human poo talk. "Out of my way, I'm about to have a poo-mergency." "I waddled the last block into the office because I was about to have a poo-mergency." We're classy and I love this thread!
I'm dying over here. No poop conversations in the Koshveily residence. We both try to keep our body functions private... There is the occasional slip (especially now that I'm pregnant again) but I'm embarrassed when it does happen.
@bdazzld I'm glad you saw my elaboration & I'm sorry about what happened to you. That is not cool. I definitely wouldn't prioritize me eating over a patient in pain -- I've gotten up from lunch many times to medicate patients for pain! There's no excuse for repeatedly being late on doses. I could let it slide once because stuff happens (emergencies, etc), but over & over? When it was causing you serious issues? Not ok!
I think it is so weird that a couple can be married and not fart in front of each other...don't you have 100% comfort? I'm not saying you have to be gross about it, but it is just a bodily function...
K and I have no issues with passing gas or using the restroom with the other in the room. If I need to go do my hair and he is on the toilet, whatever. If I'm on the toilet and he wants to talk about something, whatever. We never close the bathroom door. Not sure how we will learn how to do that as E gets older...we are just super comfortable with each other and think nothing of it all...I can't tell you often all three of us are in the bathroom together...meh.

Thank you! Sorry for taking so long to respond, I was app bound most of the week.
My mom was a CNA and then a Phlebotomist, so I respect the profession greatly and try to be patient and kind with healthcare workers.
Sadly at that point even though we had kept trying to be patient there's only so much. Even my CNA was so upset she was red in the face and just apologizing over and over, finally I think I ended one night surrounded by hot packs and warming blankets to bring my body temp back up because the pain had lowered it so much I was uncontrollably shivering and teeth were locked in a grimace, which ultimately was causing me to convulse around the surgery site and spasming my back which was just spiraling me further. BLEH! My DH was at a loss and just holding my hand. Poor guy.

But I will do everything I can to reduce risk to myself INCLUDING delaying non-life saving care & INCLUDING making you wait longer for your appt. I am not a martyr.
Also, I would not let anyone try to put an IV in my without gloves on! That's crazy!

I agree! Being a nurse does not forfeit your rights to have your basic human needs met. And she said she postpones non-life threatening stuff.

Prepare to clutch your pearls.
EEEW.
DH will slip and fart in front of me now and then, but we usually don't. I feel like he never did until we got engaged or married and I was like, "what is this? We're married, so you can Fart now?" No thanks. Keep it to yourself.

But I just can't! I never poop while he's in the house either...I can't do it in public either. I've tried! But my body will seriously not let me! It's frustrating because my stomach will hurt SO bad...but I won't be able to relieve myself no matter how hard I try! I annoy myself lol
I envy all you ladies that can fart and poop at will!

Poor guy.
