If a similar convo has already been started feel free to direct me there!
I have a 5.5 month old daughter. For the most part she is EBF. I did have to supplement with formula for a month or two at the beginning when she didn't gain weight during her second week. I started taking mother's milk pills (fenugreek +blessed thistle) and I think that may have helped.
At 4 months, our ped recommended that we start solids. I was a bit apprehensive but after much deliberation we started a couple weeks later and in ernest at 5 months. She seems to like eating for the most part (hates peas) and now she eats 2 meals a day. I always nurse first. We don't follow a strict schedule but I use the EASY routine. She usually nurses every 2.5-3 hours, always both sides for around 15-20 min total. A few weeks ago she started STTN and we noticed that her weight dropped off a little so we added a 12pm feeding back in. So usually I pump and my husband gives her a bottle. (I generally only pump twice a day - during her first nap and then before her midnight feeding.)
Breastfeeding was going great until a week ago. She'll nurse for a few minutes and then start crying and refuse to latch. This happens more often in the afternoon/evening and always at bedtime (around7pm.) Then I give her a bottle of pumped milk, and when I pump afterward, I get nothing.
At first I thought that maybe she was going through a growth spurt and I just needed to catch up or maybe she's teething but its only at this time of day. For the last two days I've been power pumping at 11pm. I'm hoping that will give me a boost. I've also increased my dose of mother's milk pills and spread out the dosage throughout the day. I'm also wondering if I should back off from solids a bit and stick to once a day? Or a could pump more often. She doesn't seem to want to eat more often just more at a time.
I know my next step should be to speak to a LC but I thought I try here for feedback.
Thanks in advance.
Re: Decrease in supply at 5.5 months
I have no real advice since I'm a FTM, but I've seen similar posts and a lot have responded that they had success when they backed off a bit on the solid food. Hopefully others will chime in with suggestions.
