Raise your hand if you failed

The 1 hour glucose test. I did. Womp. Womp. Anyone here failed the 1 hour miserably and passed the 3 hour? They said my number was 163 which the nurse said was really bad. I don't even eat sugar!

Re: Raise your hand if you failed

  • My one hour was 163. Then I mega failed the three hour.

a resident was shocked that I am controlling my sugars solely with diet based on my results. On the three hour, my fasting was 94 and one hour 220. The doc didn't bother to tell me the rest

  • Sorry. But I heard that only 20% of people who fail the 1 hour also fail the 3 hour, so maybe you'll pass. What did you eat before the test?

  • Oh bummer, I'm sorry!  I have a friend who failed her GTT about a month ago and did the 3 hour and passed with flying colors.  Fingers crossed you pass!

  • I had a bowl of cereal and a cup of coffee three hours before the test. They sprung it on me or I would have eaten better this morning. Ugh

  • Yeah, the cereal probably did it.  Simple carbohydrates.

That really sucks, sorry!  If you had known, I would suggest a single hardboiled egg to minimize sugars.  I hope you pass the 3 hour!  You've got a good chance.

    This.

My doctor advised me not to eat anything from midnight on (my draw was at 8:30 this morning).  The nurse (who is a friend of mine) advised me not to eat sugars (including carbs) from Monday at 6pm.

  • My doctor also recommended eggs or something low carb the morning of the test. GL with the 3 hour.
  • Trust me, I know I didn't eat right. They had me scheduled for it on Friday so when I was in a hurry this morning, I are cereal to make it to the doctor on time to get checked out after last nights fall. When I got there they were like well you're already here let's just get all this other stuff out of the way. I told them I hadn't eaten well this morning and they were like it will be fine. Grrrrr. It's just a pain because I already eat low glycemic most of the time since I'm used to following a PCOS diet. The one day I don't this happens.

  • My midwife told me to eat how I normally do, and that if I cut out sugar right before, it will actually make me do worse on the test because your body goes into some crazy mode because you've cut all sugars.

Yeah that's the thing, I never eat sugar and I never have cereal for breakfast

  • This happened to me my first pregnancy and I passed the second completely. I just limit what I eat to like a fried egg in the morning before the test if anything.
  • I will find out in the morning.
  • I'm on my way to my doctor appointment, and will hopefully get my 3 hour results today. I did it about a week and a half ago, so I'm assuming if I failed, they would've called me with the results before my normal appointment today. Fingers crossed that I pass!

  • I have mine on Friday. I'm more concerned with how long the wait will be (can't book a time, first come first served) but I really don't want to fail. Carbs are delicious...

failed the 1 hour with both babies and passed the 3 hour on both babies.  With DD2 my 1 hour was off the charts bad.

It's a real kick to the nuts to fail

  • Not sure- just took it on Monday so I should find out in a couple days.  My doctor told me not to fast, and since my appointment was at 2pm I had to eat something that day. But now I wish I had eaten something better than what I did.
  • *Raises hand*

But passed the 3 hour with no issue.
  • The OBs in our area make us fast 12 hours before the three hour. I wonder if the solution is different or if the values are different.

  • I failed the one hour and passed the 3 hour but my CNM is making me do the 3 hour again at 29 weeks....actually she said I could do the one hour again but I've never passed it so what's the point. Two three hour tests make me feel very grouchy but I guess its 3 hours that dh will watch ds and I can read my book that I started during the last testing phase.
  • I refused the glucola drink and the 1-hour test after having read the food babe article about how the 86g of sugar in the glucola causes your body to go into sugar shock basically. I'm a freak about watching how much sugar I'm ingesting (especially during pregnancy) and feel like there's got to be a better way to test than to take your body to such an extreme. I am testing my blood sugar at home 2x/day instead and all numbers have been good so far (75 to 95 range). It's a little tricky to decipher it on my own as thats what my OB told me.. she wasn't familiar enough with interpreting home results so I'd be on my own. Curious to know what some of your 'passing' numbers were on the 1-hour although it's a little like comparing apples to oranges since those results were after the glucola drink.

  • 1 hour was 158.  I passed the three hour by the second hour's blood draw.  Same thing with my last pregnancy and this one.

  • I just failed my 1 hour this morning with a 155.
  • My OB does a 2 hour/75g test w/fasting instead of a 1 hour/50g test.  I failed it by a few points at the 1 hour mark.  I think she considers the 2 hour results final so I won't have to take the 3 hour test, but I guess I'll find out.

  • I don't have my 1 hour test for two more weeks but I'm worried about not passing.
  • Mine is Tuesday and I'm actually nervous about it. I've been having blood sugar issues since the 1st trimester, even though I never had any before. Keeping my fingers crossed!
  • Just found out that I passed my one hour and I ate normally a few hours beforehand.

I ate normal for my 1 hour and failed. I ate normal and fasted before my 3 hour and still failed. I'll be seeing a specialist and a diatician next week. It's been a real shock to me because I'm pretty active and eat really healthy already, so I never expected I would get GD.
  • I'm a 1 hour failure too. I failed at 143...SO CLOSE! The CNM said she had somewhat expected it due to my PCOS diagnosis though. I go in tomorrow morning for my 3 hour (second try at it)...I'm really hoping I pass!

Ok this is a stupid question, I have PCOS- does this mean I probably do have GD? I'm not over weight, i'm extremely active and I eat really healthy.

Based on my understanding, there is a link between PCOS and insulin production, even if you have Non-IR PCOS. Basically, the insulin does something to trigger your ovaries to produce more male hormones which makes PCOS worse. That's probably over simplified but there's plenty of articles out there about it.
