This is two fold...
1) What will be your first drink after baby is born

2) CLICKY POLL - Will you drink to celebrate your baby being born (i.e. glass of champagne at the hospital)?

Re: First Drink After Baby is Born?

  • I voted SS because I honestly don't know. If something is offered to me or is readily available then sure, why not, but I'm not like craving anything.

  • I voted SS because I don't know when/if I'll have a drink (I'm the most super lightweight ever and can get sleepy-drunk off half a wine cooler), but when I do it'll probably be either a ginger hard cider or some of the mead I made a couple of years ago and still have three gallons of.

  • I'm not drinking immediately but when I do it will be a nice glass of red wine with a special dinner!! :)
And I am really looking forward to champagne for New Year's Eve!

  • I don't have a set date that I'll have a drink but lately I've been craving a Jack & Coke, Redd's Apple Ale, a Bud Light, and a Pickleback shot. Not necessarily all together...especially because I'm sure I'll be a lightweight once LO is born.

  • i voted a week or so after but i honestly haven't really thought about it! dirty martini used to be my drink of choice but i can't imagine drinking one right now so maybe i'll go for a nice cold glass of wine. this reminds me...i've been meaning to start a thread about drinking and breast feeding- off i go!

  • @wildflower75‌ Is it bad that this has been on my mind pretty often lately?

    1. Honestly, I would love a margarita. Tequila & figuring out newborn twins probably isn't the best combo though. Definitely up for a good beer, or some Pinot.

    2. The hospital where I'll deliver serves sparkling juice in champagne glasses the night before you're discharged lol. I'm sure we'll have a celebratory toast when we get home :)

It's twin girls!! Born on 11-2-14!

  • @carolineheider - Now, if only I liked beer. That's one thing I've never really acquired a taste for (unless it's Budlight Lime on a hot day).

  • SS- I don't really drink much as is so I have no idea.. Usually I drink maybe 2-3 drinks a year so who knows! :)
  • When I put "waiting a week or more" I wanted to be inclusive of those planning on having a drink a week after giving birth and  people like me or will most likely wait a month or two...

    :D

  • I will probably have some sort of drink (probably wine) after I get home with the baby. Just 1 though until I can see what my supply will be like. I will most likely end up exclusively pumping (if I can and if not I will FF) so I will need to pre-stock some milk before I really celebrate anything.

  • I don't know when it will be but I'm definitely having a glass of wine at some point after he's born. Maybe on a date night with H.

  • I would have a glass of red in my hospital bed if it wasn't frowned upon...

  • I'm going to put a bottle of Chalk Hill chardonnay in the fridge as soon as I get home from the hospital, and will enjoy it with hubby that night. I have also been stocking up on wine, and in fact have two bottles being delivered by UPS this afternoon =).
    It's a girl! Due November 22, 2014
  • I voted SS because I'm not sure.  With DD, I thought I'd have some champagne in the hospital, but just wasn't feeling up to it.  I waiting at least 6 weeks with her to have a couple sips of wine, but that was more how I was feeling, not because I was nursing.  We'll see how I feel this time, but when I do have a drink it will be a very cold glass of Chardonnay.

  • I don't plan on drinking until a drunk (err..I mean book club) club meeting. We have a big Christmas Party every year I plan on drinking for it.

I think I'm going to try the oft recommended Guinness to help aid the milk coming in - oh and because maybe I've been yearning for some too! :) More than likely it will just end up being a couple sips - most of my cravings have been like that.  I have a few bites or tastes of something and then I'm done.

  • I voted SS. It won't be immediately, but I'm not waiting a certain amount of time either.

After having DS, a few days after getting home I poured a glass of wine. It took me like 3 days to finish it!

  • I won't have a drink at the hospital because it is usually such a chaotic time.

I'm hoping to do the same as last time: A few days after we get home to have a nice glass of wine with some nice meats and cheeses. DH makes the best antipasto platters mmmm....

After that I told him that we better have a constant supply of wine in the house lol 2 kids under 2 1/2 means I deserve a glass of wine at night.

  • It will be a giant glass of Murphy Goode Cabernet Sauvignon
  • I voted SS because I don't drink at all normally!

  • I'd love either a margarita on the rocks, extra salt; or a Bloody Mary, extra spicy.
Honestly, my first drink will probably be wine on Thanksgiving.

  • I voted SS! I wasn't a big drinker before baby. I am having a glass of wine this weekend for my birthday! But, I don't know when I'll have a drink after baby.

  • The wino in me told my hubby he better bring a nice bottle of wine with us to celebrate after the baby is born. I missed my wine so much! But knowing how strict I am when breastfeeding, it'll probably be a few months before I actually have my first glass.
  • First drink after LO is born: WATER :D

After that...probably a margarita or strawberry daiquiri. I don't drink really, just occasionally have one of those when I go out to eat.
  • I voted SS....it will totally depend on how I am feeling.      If I feel sick, exhausted, or just plain blah....beer will not make me feel better.

If I feel healthy and happy, then I will most likely indulge in a nice cold beer when we get home and get settled.   Might be a couple days...a week...3 weeks..

  • I want a small glass of really expensive tequila over ice!! I can't wait! Although I'll probably wait a week or two. Have the breast milk alcohol test strips all ready for me :P The girl who taught my twin class said the hospital used to give champagne to all the moms and said it helped with nursing. I'm sure liability prevents it now but I wish that still happened Also have sushi coming to the hospital on day two. Yay!
This is so me.  I am missing sushi something awful. I have a couple of friends who have promised to bring me sushi the day after the baby arrives.  I also wouldn't say no to a 1/2 glass of champagne if I feel up to it.  Maybe that will be a task for the parents to keep them busy (maybe some cider for the in laws).  I do love me some tequila too, but it may be a while before I'm up to that.  I'm a Patron Silver girl.

  • I like the idea of a celebratory drink but between not knowing if I will actually be up for it and the hassle of trying to find a small bottle of something I'd like... it may not happen. Or maybe I'll just go with a hard cider. I'm certainly okay with drinking whenever the opportunity arises and will just keep it to infrequent small amounts and with food since the plan is to BF.
  • Champagne after the birth. That would be great. I'll get DH sparkling cider since he doesn't drink.
