Decreased urination?

Before the "call your doctor" police arrest me, I just want everyone to know I have an appointment on Thursday, and I'll discuss it with my OB then. I'm not having any other concerning signs or symptoms, so this is not an emergency and solely a question wondering if I'm alone or if this is more common than I realize...

Up until last week, I was having the typical "have to go pee every 5 minute" sort of thing. Now, my fluid input has remained the same or even increased at times, and my need to pee has definitely decreased. I'm 30 weeks on Thursday, and I feel like a FTM because I don't remember this with DD. Is it happening to anyone else? Perhaps it is just the baby's position...but I'm curious. Thanks!

Re: Decreased urination?

  • hmmm, I guess I am the opposite. The baby has dropped and is putting more pressure on my bladder. I am going more frequently but producing less (because my bladder holds less now).

  • Maybe your body needs more water or you are sweating it out? If you live in a dry climate and have been out in the heat you might not even notice you are sweating it out.

    If you are increasing the amount of water you are drinking dramatically and still producing less urine that does not sound right. No matter what position the baby is in you still need to excrete the same amount. I would call your doctor before your appointment.

  • You may be peeing less, but are you actually peeing more when you do go? It could be baby's position allowing more room in your bladder.

  • I'm part of the "call your doctor police"... And proud of it! ;-)
    Right? How on earth is telling strangers to call their doctors with their medical questions a bad thing? I don't get it.
    I don't THINK she was saying it was a bad thing? I interpreted it more as "I know I need to discuss this with a doc so don't freak out on me, but I'm going to ask here anyway". FWIW. Sometimes I need to pee more than other times and I assume it's just normal variation, the baby's position, and how much I'm sweating and things like that.
    Yes, this. Definitely not a bad thing to call your doctor! Just letting those who jump on that wagon to let you know that I will talk to my doc about this! :)

    I have been snissing a lot because I've been sick, so maybe that is part of it (duhh, now that I think about it). But even my nighttime trips to the bathroom have decreased. If it's still like that tomorrow, I will call.

    So... you are telling us how to (or not) respond?  Yeah about that....

    Here is something you haven't addressed in your post or response.... has your fluid intake changed>

    She mentioned it in the first post.
    @SLC1102 - Thanks.  I missed that.

  • I have days that I pee every five minutes and others that I don't. Also, sometimes I'll get a strong urge to pee, but if I stand up or move then it goes away. I always assume it is the baby's positions.
  • Well, after this lovely post yesterday, I was up about half a billion times last night peeing like a racehorse. Pretty sure all is back to normal. ;)  Thanks for the input!

  • Glad to hear it - Just in case someone is searching on the bump for this: Peeing less frequently CAN be a sign of preeclampsia (liquids stay in causing you to bloat, rather than coming out).  So if it's a concern you should definitely call your Dr. to rule that out.  OP glad everythings back to normal :)
