First Appointment

After counting down the days (since March 15) today is finally the day of my first appointment - in approximately 4 1/2 hours!!

I will be 9 weeks tomorrow and I've read that sometimes doctors/clinics don't check for the heartbeat on the first appointment.

I'm really hoping I will get to hear it today. Did any of you whose doctor may not necessarily check for the heartbeat during the first appointment request this? If so, were you able to hear it?

This is my first, I'm 28 and haven't had any known mc in the past, so I'm pretty sure I'm considered low risk at this point.

I met my doc at 9 weeks and he didn't look for HB, said it was too early. You're not alone there! Hope you get to hear it today!

9 weeks is very early to hear it.  The baby's still really small.  Mine doesn't attempt it until 12-13 weeks because it could cause unnecessary worry if you can't find it.  Good luck and let us know if you get to hear it!

Good luck on your appointment, and keep us updated.  Like PP, my OB doesn't listen for the HB until 12 weeks.  I did get to hear it a few weeks ago, but it was via transvaginal ultrasound.

I heard the heartbeat last week at 8 weeks. In 29 and have never been pregnant or had a mc.

Thanks ladies...I had a feeling I might not get to, but was hoping that might change if I ask the doctor. I guess I'll continue with my waiting game

I had my first appointment today as well and I was measured at 9 weeks 6 days and I heard the heartbeat.

At 6 weeks, 6 days my first dr appt w/ fertility dr,  (Wednesday, 4/10, they had me listen to the heart rate) and then saturday( first appt with OB), I was measuring 7 weeks 3 days, again I heard the heart rate. I also bought a fetal monitor and I am

I was 6 weeks 1 day and got to hear a heartbeat. I was told they will do another transvaginal u/s at my 8 week which is normal at my clinic. You should just call and ask them to do one.

I had my first appointment at 9 weeks, they did an internal ultrasound found the heartbeat no prob!!! I guess it all depends on whether or not your doc will do an ultrasound or not?? The internal one was very clear the heartbeat was easy to hear!! Hopef
