Is Milk Still Good?

Ok.. I pumped milk while at my parents' house this weekend (kept in fridge only 1 day), transported it home in a cooler with ice packs, and put it in the fridge. Is the milk still good after 24 hours after being in a cooler? How long will it stay good?

Probably depends on how cold it stayed in the cooler. If it stayed pretty cold and it smells ok, I would think it's ok.

Absolutely still good, if the milk and ice packs still felt cold after the trip (which 8hrs within a cooler, I'm assuming yes). I'd give it the benefit of 5-8 days total, depending what fridge guideline you prefer.

I would say it's fine as long as it's always been cold. I travel back and forth from my parents an hour away and do the same thing.

Thank you! Well then my other question should be if I didnt have the cooler and it was just out in the diaper bag for an allotted time, could I still put it back in the fridge if it wasnt used?

I agree with this. If it wasn't in the cooler then I wouldn't use it if it was out for 8 hours. I'd only put it back in the fridge if it was out for an hour or two.

I believe the guidelines say 4-6 hours at room temperature so I'd keep it in your diaper bag example. But I would try to use it within a day in that case. I wouldn't feel comfortable with 6 hours at room temp and then 6 days in the fridge.

Seems like everyone refrigerates longer than I do. My ped said fresh milk can be refrigerated for 48 hours and defrosted milk can stay in the refrigerator for 24 hours. Also if to 3 months frozen.

I heard 6.6.6. rule. 6 hours out, 6 days in fridge, 6 months in fridge
