I am 17 weeks pregnant and don't feel very confident with my doctor. The office is unorganized and its very stress. Has anyone had to switch doctors in middle of their pregnancy?

I just switched and I'll be 17 weeks tomorrow. Best decision I've made this pregnacy care wise.

  • Its not uncommon at all. The best thing you can do for you and and baby is to go someplace you feel comfortable with.
  • I'll be switching at the end of the month. Mostly because I've heard great things about midwives in my area. Going to visit two hospitals/centers soon and will go from there.

Nervous about making the switch at that time (I'll be 20 weeks then) but I'm sure it'll end up okay.

The sooner you switch the better, if you think you may want to. Many ob's will not take new patients after a certain point inthe pregnancy. Not sure why, maybe they perceive it as "doctor shopping"? But before you transfer call the new practice you are interested in and be sure how late on pregnancy they will take a transfer patient.
  • If you're not comfortable with your ob/gyn, then switch... middle of the pregnancy or not. You need to feel comfortable with the physician who will be with you throughout this

  • I'm switching doctors and I'm 19 weeks. I originally chose him due to convenience (he's 2 minutes away from my house), but I finally realized that having a doctor who I trust and feel comfortable with is much more important.

  • I just switched and saw my new OB for the first time yesterday. I was amazed at how much better I felt about everything pregnancy related just by seeing the new doctor, and I couldn't believe how different my experience was. I'm 16w4d, and I am SO glad that I switched! This practice and the change of hospital for delivery are farther from home, but it will be so worth it to have peace of mind.
  • I have already switched docs once. And I will again if they don't give the right answers when I go over my birth plan at my next appt. You are a customer just as much as anywhere else you pay for service. If the service sucks, leave.

  • I've had three so far this pregnancy.  NBD.  Go with who you feel comfortable with.

Last pregnancy I switched at 32 weeks.  Again, NBD.

  • I'm 17 weeks I also made a switch. My drs office was also very stressed and rushing all the time. Didn't seem able to answer my questions in full. I switched bcuz last visit after I had some bleeding at 13 wks and was In the er I called my office to follow up. Instead of giving me a piece of mind they requested I keep my appt. (Which was a week after the bleeding) The same instead of coming in earlier which was crazy but to top it off the day before my appt. After waiting the whole week the doctor called requesting I come in after another week and cancelled my appt! I was pissed and worried. Bought a Doppler in btwn that time. Then when finally another week went by I go there doctor checked heart beat and rushed family and I out of room. When I switched drs. My new doctor is awesome! She actually worked with previous dr. Can u believe I got all my documents faxed over. And the new dr. Told me my due date was changed that my iron is low among other new findings that was failed to be mentioned my last appt! I was shocked and my new ob was also shocked that none of the info was disclosed... Safe to say a switch is needed if your uncomfy. You will regret it come delivery day... Good luck with decision making!
  • Thanks all!!! I will be switching. I have to wait until my current doctor office fax over my medical records next week. Just ready to switch
