Cloth Diapering

Diaper Suggestions

My husband was sure he didnt want us to cloth diaper when we had our second son so I begrudgling sold my stash well now 6 months later after spending 100 a month on diapers my husband suddenly sees the light and wants to cloth diaper again so I have to buy a new stash. My question is, is there one brand easier to use with two children than the others? I used to have charlie bananas and really liked them so I'd like to stick in the pocket or all in one arena thanks

Re: Diaper Suggestions

  • I don't know that any brand of pocket is particularly better for two, but if there is, Charlie banana would NOT be it. Too hard to adjust the rise- a regular snap rise would be much easier.

I would start just like you would start from scratch. Get a variety of brands and styles and see what works. The two kids could be shaped really differently and what works best for one might not be great for the other.

  • The only pockets I've tried are BG and Nicki's. I prefer the fit of BG. But I do find it harder to go between stuffing for a 4 month old and a 2 yr old, because of the differing absorbancy needs. We don't have any OS AIOs, so I'm no help there.

Honestly though, I love BB for the versatility of size. And I can use the large hemp inserts for my 14lb-er and my 26lb-er. I know you said you prefer pockets, but the snap in inserts stay in place and are less work than stuffing pockets. Plus, you don't need as many covers ;-)

  • It's more of what brand fits your kids. If you are already wanting to do the pocket or AIO, I'd go with a variety of both. At first I wanted to do the AIO for the ease of it, but realized the drying was going to be a big issue since we don't have a good place to put them outside to dry faster. We're doing about half pockets and half prefolds/covers. I ordered some, but will be making more of mine using a few different patterns to make sure at least one style fits and holds in leaks.
  • I used BG 4.0s for my two. I had 24 for every day washing, since I had a full load each day. I think I'm in the minority where I don't prestuff my pockets. It's easier for me to stuff as I go. I would also recommend trying different brands before committing to a whole stash. I got two, liked the fit & then got the rest.
  • Maybe look for a customizable diaper trial so you can try a few different brands?

I don't know about what works for 2 kids, but right now my favorite pockets are Thirsties. We have also been really happy with Simplex, although DS went through most of the summer in between snap settings so we had to shelve them for a while. We've also added a few of the Totsbots Easyfit v4 to our stash. They're the fastest-drying AIO that I've tried, followed by Simplex.

Thirsties come in Aplix and snaps, and Totsbots are Aplix. I'm a fan of snaps but recently I've been buying mostly Aplix because they seem to be easier for daycare. So, it's nice to have both.

I'm sure no one will be surprised about this, but I totally agree about the BBs.  My 15 lb chunky infant and my 26 lb skinny minnie are on the same rise.  I just use different snap-in inserts for the 2 of them.  Plus they have adorable prints... have you seen the new tie dye?  Adore!
