Weight gain

Wondering where everyone is (of course only if your comfortable sharing!) gaining weight wise?
I feel like I should have gained weight but I'm 14 weeks and exactly the same weight prepregnancy (140). I hope I don't balloon! I constantly eat but I also chase my twin toddlers around so I am fairly active ( in between naps and going to bed at their bed time ).

  • I wouldn't worry about weight unless your doctor/midwife says something. Just my opinion. :-)

  • At this point, anything besides extreme weight loss due to HG or gaining 20 pounds due to water retention is pretty acceptable.

I am losing 1-2 per week due to having had weight loss surgery earlier this year, so I am a SS - 17 down so far since getting pregnant, but since I am able to eat/drink at my normal amounts, baby is growing on track, and I am still obese - my doc is not concerned.

  • I'm gaining - oh well. I'm also working full time, working out and running after a toddler, and enjoying pasta while doing it lol. So be it. Don't stress about weight unless your doctor says it's an issue.

I am down 6 pounds so far, I lose weight every pregnancy.  With my last I didn't gain anything until 30 weeks.
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • My sister and I compared weight gain after our first pregnancies. We both had a total of 30 lbs. gained. She gained 12lbs. in her 1st tri. and then didn't gain much until 3rd tri.. I was negative 5 lbs. at 16 weeks, and gained it all in the second half of pregnancy. I would pay a lot more attention to what your OB says than what a chart via google says is "normal".

  • I've lost about 5lbs and I'm 13w3d. I saw my OB yesterday and she seemed perfectly ok with it. She said everyone is different and that as long as everything else is OK. She did state that by my next appointment (11/17) I should have gained the 5lbs back since I will be 18w by then

My doctors have made me pretty anxious about this. I am not overweight for my height. But they keep acting like weight is such a huge deal. Both my RE and OB totally stressed this with me. I keep reading not to worry but my doctors are stressing differently. I've gained less than a pound at 14 weeks. I wish my doctors would kind of trust me and relax a bit.
Wow, that would stress me out! I've started all my pregnancies at a normal weight and had a different OB for each pregnancy. No one has cared that I lose 5 lbs. every 1st. tri and then pile it on at the end. I do the best I can with eating and my body kind of does its own thing. It's not an ideal way to avoid stretch marks, but the babies and I have been healthy.

My OB is pretty liberal so he thinks my gain is acceptable. I gained about 4lbs in first tri and I've picked up another 1-2lbs at 16w depending on my food intake and ability to poop at the time of my weighing.

For me, I know I'm going to gain weight and my goal is to gain it at a balanced rate throughout my pregnancy. This is because I feel this is the only way I can control stretch marks. I know this sense of control is mostly in my head, but it's working!!

  • With DS I lost 7 lbs by this point (14 weeks).

With this one I've gained 3 lbs. And I have to say - I'm quite impressed that it's only 3 lbs the way I've been eating.

Like everyone else is saying - we're all different.
  • With my first, I didn't gain a single pound until 5 months (probably because not drinking wine and the baby weight cancelled each other out). This time, I gained 15 lbs before 12 weeks... Granted, I am having twins but I think it just goes to show that everyone/every pregnancy is different.

  • I get OP's curiosity... this is my first pregnancy and I have often wondered what others are gaining and what their experiences have been, not to obsess over it or worry myself, just simple curiousity. Last I checked I had gained about 2lbs and I'm 13 w 3days. However, that was pre-Thanksgiving meal..... I could be up to 8 by now ;)
  • I have gained only about 3lbs (14 weeks today) but my body has totally changed shape, so I feel different in clothes to a huge extent--much bigger than 3 lbs would normally make happen. Don't stress, everybody (and, more specifically every BODY) is different.

    11.9.14 Dot is a boy!!
  • 14 weeks 3 days and I've gained 6lbs started at 136lbs. My doctor doesn't seem concerned so I'm not worried either. Like the other ladies have said everyone is different. :)
  • I weigh myself at the Dr because I have to... I do not weigh myself before, during or after pregnancy. I happen to have a lot of dense muscle and weigh 'a lot' for someone my height and size. I'm active, eat healthy and feel good... That's what matters. Why let the amount of gravity pull get you down? I didn't weigh myself until 6mo post partum!!
  • I've gained 6 pounds so far and I'm 15 weeks. Every website says this is a good number. I didn't experience MS (I'm so sorry to those who had/still have MS) but I experienced the "I'm pregnant so I'm finally allowed to eat everything!" phase.

  • I wasn't for sure - so I went back and looked at my log in weights (I have a fitbit and use the app to track steps, weight, sleep, etc). Looks like I gained 6-7 lbs my first trimester. It all varies though - I know a week or so ago I stepped on the scale it said I had lost 3 lbs. I know between my 8w appt and my 12w appt the dr said I had only gained 1lb according to their scales. They seem ok with my starting weight and current weight, so I am not worried about it.

Like @souptin said - one less thing I have to worry about right now.

15w4 days and have gained 5lbs. I didn't have much ms and I don't eat any more than I used to, so I'm not worrying about it. My body is doing what it's supposed to do :)

  • FTM here and I am really trying not to fall into the trap of gaining a massive amount of weight. I am just over 14 weeks and have gained 7 lbs, but glad my energy has returned and I was finally able to go for a run yesterday :-)
  • I'm not worried. Just curious- I agree everyone is different and each pregnancy is different. I've been keeping track of my weight for 2 years now very carefully because I am unfortunate enough to have crohns but have been flare free for the first time in the two years starting just two months before I got pregnant. Just something I have to carefully watch even if I don't want to. That's all. I eat when I'm hungry and that's what's important ;) thanks ladies. Wasn't trying to make anyone uncomfortable.
  • @GiveMeABrownieNow the way you worded the eating and nausea thing made it sound like eating frequently is the cure all for ms. I don't think you meant that, but I would change the wording when talking to people IRL. I know for me I could eat every 15 min. and when my ms is bad I would puke and/or be in lots of pain just as often.

I just hit 7lbs this morning at 15w2d. Not thrilled about it after seeing everyone else's low gains but at the same time I have been really sedentary and hit the drive thru a lot at the beginning so it's something I could of avoided. I also had zero vomiting just a lot of nausea.

I'm here with you.  I have been a member of Weight Watchers for about 5 years and I know that I have food/weight issues.  Pregnancy is not a time to obsess about my weight so I've been ignoring it.  Unless my doctor says that I've gained too much or not enough I'm oblivious.

Eh, I've been sedentary too and had a lot of junk food. You do what you have to do during those early months.

  • I agree we shouldn't be comparing weight gain but I'm not afraid to admit I've put on a lot more than I should have. I don't know how much I weighed pre pregnancy, all I know is that I now weigh a lot more. I ate my way through 1st tri because it was the only thing that helped the nausea.

  • I've gained about 7 lbs at 16 weeks but I'm also a teenager so my doctor told me to try to gain a little above the recommended range. I'm sure your baby is growing happy and healthy don't stress about weight gain to much.
  • I've gained about 4 lbs so far at 13 weeks. My body is totally different though. What's surprised me is how okay I've been with it considering the body image issues I had when I was younger including a mild eating disorder and how conscious I've been about everything even after I got through the obsessing. Hopefully I keep being excited about it and not stress, but my MW knows about my past struggles and says she'll be watching to make sure I'm doing okay with everything the whole way.

  • I've gained about 4-5 lbs. keeps going all over the place, 13 weeks today. My nurse said as long as your between 2-8 lbs gained in the first trimester your fine. Though I'm not a fan of being weighted at the doctors office. It said I gained 10! I almost freaked out. Though with all the clothes I had on, I had just had lunch and about 25 oz of water, I figured that's where it came from. I've gained some in my belly/ I have a short torso so I will show early, nowhere for organs to go anymore. I've only taken offense once, when a coworker said I needed to be careful cause I'm showing, well lady, I have a short torso and I'm pregnant, it's going to pop out eventually.
  • I'm 14w today and have lost 20 pounds (all of it in the past month) but that is due to HG. My midwife told me to start gaining 1-2 pounds per week, and I had to laugh... I suspect that the moment I can begin eating again, it'll allllll come back, but for now it is still going the wrong direction. Baby however? Growing fine. Ahead of schedule even. Apparently he or she enjoys living off of mama's thighs!

I did the same last time, and am also a lifetime member of weight watchers, and suffer from a degree of body dysmorphia. Did I gain a fair amount of weight? Yeah. Did I give any effs? Nope! I am with you - now is not the time for that kind of stress. Sure, I gained more than 60 pounds, but I looked (and felt) damn cute doing it. :)

I was extremely healthy, baby was perfection, and life went on (quite happily).

Not to mention I lost 21lbs between 6w and 12w and now I already have a bump the size I was when I was 20+w with DD...I also gained over 60lbs with her but I felt good, just not that much this time. DH helps by always being positive and sincere complimenting and reminding me it's ok to gain bc it's for baby and I'm not always going to be huge...big fear I won't lose the weight.
I agree with PP that this is not a good topic to dwell and compare each other on.
  • I've gained 5 or so.126 -->131/2 at 15wks 4 days. It looks like a lot and feels like a lot sometimes, but I am not going to get concerned about it. As many have already stated, we are all different.
