May 2015 Moms

I'm running out of clothes to wear.

I am not announcing to work until after my ultrasound on the 22nd, but in the meantime, I am running out of hide-the-bloat clothing. Even though it’s bloat, it’s in the shape of a perfect baby bump, and if I don’t hide this thing people will clearly know.

I have like…3 shirts that actually are large enough to cover it comfortably without looking like I’m wearing a moo-moo, but people are starting to notice my weekly repeat in clothing choices.

What makes matters worse is I have filled half my closet with all new, cute maternity clothes I can’t yet wear until announcement day. (sigh)

Come on, next Wednesday! Let’s get here, already!

Re: I'm running out of clothes to wear.

  • I haven't bought any maternity pants. I am just using a BellaBand to keep my old ones up. But-- I did buy a slew of maternity tops that I am dying to wear!

  • Like @robotpcr‌ I'm also living in one pair of fat jeans. Yoga pants have been my best friend. I'm a petite girl and my bloat is very noticeable.

We just had a wedding and a family get together recently to attend and trust me it was very difficult finding something to wear.

Selfishly I'm glad you're showing your bloat baby. Most of my baby weight is off from my last pregnancy but sometimes I look at myself in the mirror and wonder if my pudgy tummy is from that or bloat. I keep telling myself there's no way it's even bloat at this point but I think I'm officially transitioning into bloat baby land. I have a bunch of light flowy tops that I purchased post pregnancy which are working HARD now. Maybe invest in a few if you can- post pregnancy they'll be great to have too.

  • @Morenajuliet‌ - Yeah...(sigh). I may have to break down and get a few more flowy tops. Don't want to...but with over a week left, I need to. This bloat keeps getting bigger and bigger.
  • I am in the same boat! I bought some shirts this weekend in a larger size, and a large cardigan that seems to hide my whole body. I will be wearing that at work. Luckily this week I am working from home, and we, hopefully, will be announcing next week.
  • I tried to find my old maternity pants. I looked everywhere for them this morning. They were quite elusive and I have no idea what I did with them! FX I didn't throw them out or donate them. I would be so disappointed. All my regular pants are so uncomfortable. I didn't start wearing maternity until my a/a last time, but my body looks a whole lot different this time around. Bring on the elastic bands!

  • I'm trying to hold out 2 more weeks, but i only have 1 pair of jeans that fits with a Bella Band. Maternity Jeans don't stay up on their own, because its just bloat...

My yoga pants are a good backup option - but I can't dress down THAT much to work that often.

I'm a teacher - and It's homecoming week - where the whole building dresses differently. IE- tomorrow is PAJAMA day. :) Should make it easy to get through this week.

I also put all my maternity clothes away in my closet over the weekend and its just too soon to wear the shirts. A lot of them are either A) tent-like or B) ruched on the side and therefore OBVI pregnant wear.

I also packed a bunch of them back up because they will be too big... I was 40 lbs heavier when I got pregnant with my first two. Size 14 maternity pants and XXL shirts won't cut it this time around. Debating whether to make do with the few items remaining or to purchase a few more items in a few weeks.

  • I've been able to wear looser shirts and do the rubberband trick on my pants to hide it so far, but it won't last much longer. I think i'll have hubby get my bella bands out of the attic soon.

  • Luckily I wear scrubs every day to work. Otherwise its maternity pats and a hoodie to hide my bloat. :)

  • Luckily I have clothes in a couple of sizes, so I've just been wearing the larger pants over and over again, so I'm semi-set for work.  I am cursing myself for buying a million pairs of skinny jeans when I lost 30 lbs a couple of years back....because now I have only one pair of wearable jeans.  I can't wait until I actually have a bump to show off and I'm not constantly trying to hide my fat mid-section.

Anyone wear suits for work? I have a sneaking suspicion my maternity options are going to be limited.
While not everyday... there are quite a few times during the month where I'm expected to be in a suit, or a very nice skirt/pants and a blazer or coat of some sort.  Unfortunately, I haven't found any stores in my area that have maternity options that cater to the "Business Professional" dress code.  Business casual and upper business casual sure... but not professional :(

my issue is pants right now. maternity pants dont stay up and regular pants are so flopping tight #iamallbabyandnofat ;) but i look like a hot mess today, good thing i just work for my parents.
someone posted on the Bella band thread about maternity jeans and a Belly band.

     LIFE.  CHANGING.

I was having the issue that my pants and the belly band weren't comfortable, but maternity pants were still too big.  This is like the perfect medium.

As far as tops go, it's my normal style to wear skinny jeans and a flowy top, so I should be able to rock the top half of my wardrobe well into my second trimester.

  • @a316b‌ - Pajama day? What I wouldn't give to change jobs with you! I have to dress up everyday :( Annoying.
  • I usually wear flowy tops anyway, so I should actually be good for several more weeks.  Do you have any of those flowy open cardigans, that way it kind of flows and moves so you can see the stomach as much?

lgsdesigner - YEP. It is the only reason I look forward to homecoming/spirit weeks.

I have tenure, so I can get away with jeans most days. But this week teachers wear literally ANYTHING to work. (appropriate, that is).

I'm sure I'll have some co-workers in full nightgowns, slippers and robes tomorrow.

We also have "sports day", "neon day", and "extreme blue/gold" day. (translation.... YOGA PANTS, SWEATPANTS, PJ PANTS.)

  • I'm in the same boat. Thankfully it's still be really warm, in the 80s and 90s, so I can get away with wearing dresses most the time, and use a belly band if it's cool enough for pants. But I'm running out of loose flowy tops!

  • Thankfully I plan on breaking the news next Monday... so don't have too much longer that I have to hide the blump lol.

I still have a few pairs of work pants that don't fit too snug, but second all of the shirt woes!  I can't stand wearing the same shirts over and over again, but don't have much that isn't tight fitting or at least tight to some degree.

I ordered a belly band so I'm hoping it shows up soon as I can't get a lot of the pants to cooperate with the rubber band/hair tie trick

  • Yes! Maternity pants and a belly band is the greatest combination right now! The band keeps the maternity pants from sliding down. Glad it's working for @OnceInLoveWithAmy‌! @a316b‌, you should try it!
  • Luckily my wardrobe is mostly flowy not so fitted shirts so I can hide my blump right now for a while. I did go to the thrift store a couple weeks ago and bought some 2 sizes larger then I usually wear work pants so I don't feel like my bloat is hanging over my pants.

Not really, but only because that's not my style. However-- I will try anything at this point!

  • I stood in the mirror and let my stomach go and I look pregnant just with bloat and being chubby in general from the last baby. I can't wait for like a month from now when I can just let it pass as pregnant belly haha.

Luckily at work I wear yoga pants, but I am desperate need of new clothes so it's hard wearing the same outfits. I can't wait to wear maternity clothes!!!!

I wear suits and have already started worrying about this. Is anyone has any tips for a good place to find maternity suits I am all ears!! I agree that the selection will be limited...
  • I feel the same! My 12 week appt is next Wed also and I have about 5 shirts I've been rotating. I'm a bit of a clothes horse and have on a different outfit everyday so I think people in the office are noticing something is up :)

  • Same boat here. I were dress pants to work and most of my tops are form fitting. If I get new clothes it will be so obvious bc I always wear the same stuff to work. My stomach is growing from the bloat and by the end of the day I have people looking at my stomach. I thought my last child was going to be my last so I sold every last bit of maternity clothes!!! I'm holding out as long as possible. Maybe I will try that Bella band.
  • Luckily I work from home so I have been living in leggings and flowy tops. The main problem is my Double Ds have grown like two sizes already and I feel so uncomfortable in everything. I was self conscious of them before, now I really hate them :((
Yeah-- me too. I went up a full size. Can't believe it! This is really soon for all of this.

  • I have a few dress pants that I can wear. Most of my other pants are wore with the belly band since I bought them on Sunday. I am running out of flowy tops though... Tried adding scarfs to camouflage the bump but yesterday and today it's way to humid and warm for a scarf...

Though most of my tops fit ok, I have noticed that almost all of my tops that are even a tad bit fitted are so tight in my chest! I had to take one off the other day because you could literally see the entire outline of my bra.... My "inappropriate to wear" pile is growing. I think I am gonna try to go to the outlets this weekend and grab some flowy tops in a size larger and just stick with it as long as possible.

  • I caved last week and bought a pair of maternity pants on sale because I had a business dinner and felt like I was going to bust out of my other pants by the end of the day. Fat jeans really weren't going to be appropriate.

I am SO HAPPY that I did. I got these black ponte pants at Gap (there were other colors and patterns) and they are my new favorites. Stretchy waistband (not too high or droopy) and super stretchy. They're also made out of a thick material, so they still feel nicer than most other options.

  • Y'all need to get some empire waist dresses! They have them at target and old navy all the time. That's all I wear! And the stretchy skirts from old navy with flowy tops. I'm only 10.4 weeks but I'm so bloated I can hardly stand it and only my family knows about the baby. I thought I would be able to go until 18 weeks without telling people but now I'm not so sure lol
  • I've been wearing a lot of elastic waist skirts and dresses. We've mostly announced at this point so I'm not really trying to hide it. But I'm also at the point where I feel more fat than pregnant. It's just distributed really weird so none of my clothes fit right.

Luckily my mom bought me some tights that are fleece lined… so comfortable!!!

  • I have never been so grateful in all my life that I have been much chunkier in recent history. "Fat pants" for the win!  I'm so glad I didn't automatically give them away to Goodwill like I'd planned. Sure, the butt and legs are saggy, but the waist fits! :)  Since I live in t-shirts and jeans, I'm having an easier time than I would have if I had to dress professionally.

Speaking of - didn't someone ask about maternity suits? I saw what looked like suits in the maternity section at Macy's. Might wanna check em out.
