Philippe's speedy birth at 36 w, 2 d

Sorry if this is long. It probably took me longer to write it and post it properly on the bump w paragraphs and photos thN it did for me to labor on Saturday.

It came as a complete surprise. Late last week and early this week my blood pressure was high, and my midwives were talking induction as early as 37 weeks. I did a series tests- blood work, 24 hour urine test, 2non stress tests, a sonogram and all looked good. The plan was to monitor me, and if all looked ok, wait until 39 weeks for induction.

Thursday I had some diarrhea and a lot of BMs, which after being constipated so long did make me somewhat thing something could happen.

Friday night we went out for DH's birthday with friends and all seemed normal. I went to bed and slept well. A few times when I got up in the middle if the night to pee, I felt uncomfortable pressure in my groin but each time I fell back asleep no problem. I woke up at 645/7 because DS1 was awake. I got him out of bed and realized I wasn't feeling great. I was crampy and feeling pressure. Thankfully he was easily distracted with a Thomas DVD. Because my other labor started in a similar manner I decided to throw the other last minute stuff into our overnight bags just in case.

Things seemed to get worse, so by 730 I woke DH up to have him watch DS. DH was grumpy since he probably imbibed too much the night before at his birthday celebration. By 8 am, I was timing contractions and they were like 3 minutes apart and lasting a minute. I still wasn't sure if it was really happening. DH called the doula and the hospital and we were told to come in. Thankfully my friend was able to take DS1 on short notice.

The ride to the hospital was like a movie. There were road blocks along the way and DH yelled "my wife's in labor! We have to get to the hospital!" The cops were totally unhelpful.

We arrived at the hospital at about 945 am. I was 8cm already. I couldn't believe it. Because I was earlier than 37 weeks, I was not allowed under hospital rules to use the labor tub. That sucked as the tub was awesome in my previous labor. By this point my contractions were really intense and I was saying crazy stuff (must have been transition). I was saying "I want to go home." "I don't want to have this baby". And my favorite "just CUT HIM OUT".

I was able to labor in the shower and that helped some. But it was crazy painful, I won't lie (I did want a natural birth). I must have been pushing through some contractions but I didn't realize it. The midwife did, and asked if I wanted to deliver in the shower or go to the bed. The shower was small and I wanted to go to the bed. I didn't make it though. I took like 6 steps, I felt a lot of pressure, my water broke, and then holy ring of fire!!! I screamed and next thing I knew DS2 came out. I was standing upright, not squatting. It happened so quick but thankfully the midwife was prepared!

So Philippe was born an hour after we got to the hospital ( just 4 hours after labor started) and was 5 lbs 15 oz. he cried right away and we were able to do an hour of skin to skin. He is considered late pre term. Once they took his vitals, his temp was low so he did have to sit under a heat lamp in the nursery for a bit. But he is now doing great, and we are home.
