Anyone Start Ganirelix Late?

Hi Ladies,

These past 24 hours I've been stressing! Today is day 8 of stims. Yesterday at my monitoring appointment the RE told me to start Ganirelex the following night (which will be tonight, day 8). I didn't think much of it until I got to work and started Googling! Big Mistake!!! It seems that most people start it on day 6 of stims. Also, it seems like a common cue to start it is a follicle that is 14 and E2 over 400. Well, I have one 14 follicle, the rest smaller, and my E2 is a little over 600. It even says on the RE's website that they start people on Ganirelex once they have one or two 13mm follies!!

I'm so afraid I will ovulate early! I was already surging before every IUI I did usually day 12. It happens so fast. I called the IVF nurse yesterday and was very upset and worried. She said she sat down with the doctor and went over everything again and he still felt I should not start Ganirelix last night! So, I'm just sitting here trying not to ovulate and counting down the minutes until I can inject it tonight. LOL!

Has anyone else started Ganirelix as late as day 8 and been ok?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Anyone Start Ganirelix Late?

  • I started on day 7 of stims (CD9), so pretty close? I always had a long LH surge and needed Ganirelix for IUI as well, but we were fine :) I had 4 follicles in the 13-14mm range when we started the Ganirelix for IVF, but I don't know what my E2 was at? We ended up having 18 eggs retrieved and 14 mature, so everything worked out perfectly on that end!

I was pretty stressed out about it as well, and I think everybody worries that they're going to ovulate prematurely, but it's very rare. You just have to put your faith in the RE and not worry unless they give you a reason to!

  • I started late as well, day 9 of stims. I stressed about it too. In hindsite, I should have just trusted my doctor and left the stress for other things. I am sure you will be fine :)

  • Thanks so much, ladies! Big hugs to all of you! You have really made my day. It's hard to trust the doctors, but sometimes you just have to. I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone in starting late.

I'll try to calm down until my appt tomorrow. Thanks again!
