Vacuum

so I want to buy a new vacuum. I don't have pets so I don't need special features for that. I do have allergies so a good filter is nice.

Any recommendations? I don't want to spend $600 for one though I'm sure the really high end ones are nice.

I'm in a small two bedroom condo with cheap standard carpeting. Hubby likes to vacuum the kitchen vinyl floor though I do sweep it like 8 billion times a day.

Re: Vacuum

  • We have a Dyson and a Dyson Animal DC44 which is the handheld one. We just bought the handheld one on Amazon for MIL for $250 total. I will never buy another brand again, I love our Dysons!

  • I've never owned a Dyson, though I have friends that love theirs. We got a Shark intended for pets (I don't know exact name/style) at BBB a few years ago and have been very happy with it. It has all sorts of attachments that I use all the time for furniture and stairs and things like that. Plus 20% off at BBB is always good.

We love our Dyson! We have a Dyson ball and I'm debating buying a stick for smaller jobs around he house.
I got mine for Christmas last year and didn't think I'd ever use it. We use it several times per day, I love the animal.

  • Electrolux, every time.

Mine is (no joke) over 30 years old. It is my best friend. You can get new ones for under $300 (smaller models, but just as effective!) And their service techs are awesome! Mine comes to my house every 3months and checks the vacuum and air purifier, tweaks them a bit, but unless a major thing needs to be fixed, I don't get charged :D

  • I have an Oreck. It's 12+ years old and still works like a champ. Keeps allergies at bay and I've been told by carpet cleaners that it has kept our carpet in amazing condition.
  • I love my Dyson Ball. Great for carpet and hard floors without having to adjust the vacuum. I have a Shark steamer for our wood floors and love that too!
  • I have a shark and a dyson animal - both are great - I think the dyson is better considering the animals we have though. I would go with the shark it's more affordable and gets the job done.
  • We have a full size dyson, still going strong after 7 yrs. We keep it upstairs. Last winter we moved into a new house with hardwood through the most of the main level. I bought a dyson stick vac. We don't sweep, it's so easy to vacuum after every meal-- toddlers are messy eaters. It also has a power head so works well on carpet too. There are so many attachments it's great for stairs and the car too. Love my dysons.

  • This is great info. Thanks for the input. I'll have to look into the Electrolux because I'm not to familiar with them. The Oreck is what my step dad loves. But his is like 30 years old lol

I definitely want something that will last a while. I'm tired of buying cheap shit that does crap work.

  • My mom had an Electrolux. She thought it worked great, until she got a dyson. She vacuumed a room with the Electrolux then with the dyson. You would not believe how much dirt was missed. Since I bought my first dyson, my mom and 2 sisters have bought them too.

  • I love my dyson!! I have the canister one instead of an upright and it's the best! So easy to vacuum the couches, cobwebs and the stairs.

I have both of these. I use the DC44 everyday and the full size Dyson once a week. I love using the DC44 in the bathroom. The attachment goes behind the toilet and it can pick up random fur bunnies.

  • I love my shark. We have zero wall to wall carpeting and its awesome for getting dog hair and dirt off of tile and hard wood!

  • Love my dyson animal for suction power and how it cleans my area rugs, but had a couple things break on it so far and I have had it for about 3 years and unfortunately it's the way I use it according to dyson even though it's supposed to have a warranty. But as far as effectiveness it's my favorite.
