Coming home outfits...

Are you all buying anything special to bring the babes home in? I hemmed and hawed over this, telling myself one second it was a waste of money, the next that it would be a sweet thing to save and show her later.

I finally broke down and bought something today. I'm pretty sure the gal calculated the discount wrong and gave me 50% off instead of 30% off (original price was outrageous, IMO) so I'm feeling less guilty but still a little bit like a sucker.

What about you ladies? Special outfit or just some jammies?

  • I bought a monnogrammed layette and cap for her to come home in. I figured it's something comfy and cute and something she will wear at least a few times. It's 0-3month.

I wanted to have a fun coming home option and thought I was all set until I started worrying about the cord stump, trying to pull a onesie over baby's head and if I wanted to fuss with gloves and socks if it was cold out. So I splurged and got a couple of outfits that I'll pack so we have options in case it's warm or cold. But they are all outfits that the baby will wear even after coming home so I don't feel too guilty.

@hellosweety18‌ This isn't baby blue in color but I think it's cute, super soft, and definitely should be warm! It's one of the options I'll pack. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00NNX0CWM
  • @Carebella‌ that is soooo cute! And looks super warm :)

I'm in Minnesota so I am sure that it is going to be chilly!
  • Since I'm due so close to Halloween, I splurged on a "Peek-a-Boo" onesie with a little ghost on it in case she's a couple days early. Probably cursing myself to be a week late just by owning it, haha.

Assuming it's too late to use that, I have a cute sleeper we'll put her in. Although the weather is so unpredictable here this time of year I'm thinking about packing a short-sleeved outfit, too.

  • I received a little sleeper onesie early in my pregnancy, and we're using that. It's unisex, and I wanted an outfit that would look cute on a boy or a girl since we're team green. I did, however, invest in two different hats so that baby will be immediately identifiable as a boy or a girl even with the little sleeper.

  • I bought a "special" going home outfit, but just from Target. I just wanted something really cute that I chose for her. (:
  • This is what we got for Max to wear home. I love it because DH calls me bear and Max baby bear so it's perfect. I'm in So Cal so he probably won't need the jacket, but it'll be nice to have :)
We picked the same outfit! :)

  • I don't know if I will havee aboy or girl. If it is a girl I have a sleep n play for her that says baby girl on it and if it is a boy, I will put him in one of my son's sleepers from when he was a newborn.
  • We had one picked out, but she will not fit in it. So, we are going to go look when I get released. If we don't find anything amazing, we will choose something DH had already bought.

  • I've been waiting for someone to post a thread about this again!  I think the last time we (N14) talked about it was back in July.

I definitely want LO's coming home outfit to be something DH and I pick out vs. a gift.  I don't need anything fancy.  I am thinking these blue footie pants with a side closure long sleeve top with a side snap tee underneath (worried about the umbilical stump so no onesies).  DH's idea is to get him a silly cap so I'll start a short list and let him pick from there.  If I just leave it up to him, he'll never buy one in time :)

  • I bought a kiwi onesie that's says "My big brother is a Multipoo" and a pair of black pants.
  • I'm not a huge gymboree fan but fell love with a one piece outfit there before DD was born. She wore that home with the matching hat and blanket. As long as I like the current newborn lines I will probably do the same for this LO. I'll either buy a boy and girl outfit and return the one we end up not needing. My mom or DH will wash the one we need while I'm in the hospital.

  • I love the idea of having your older child pick it out! That hadn't even occurred to me. @moroccojade & @alysondh did you guys buy something new and take the older one to get it? Or did you have them pick it out of their hand-me-downs?

We bought it new.  My daughter is already 7...   Her stuff has been in storage a loooong time.  (Although some of it still looks ok, I guess.)

My babies are different seasons, too.  #1 born in August, #2 end of November.  So this one needed something cozier.  :)

  • Did you girls get newborn sizes or 0-3 months. I remember my son floating in his 0-3 month outfit. Wondering if what I have will fit her. It's so small!

  • @sAAmFam‌ I've been buying 0-3 between knowing big babies are a trend on my side and DH's side. And that if we try and use a cloth diaper at the birth center they can cause clothes to fit smaller. I did break down though and buy at least one side snap onesie in a newborn size that will work with some 0-3 month pants as a coming home option.
  • We are (and were for our first two) team green. So, we purchased a cute girl and a cute boy outfit (aka zip up footed pjs- IMO the easiest outfit to put on newborns). We figure whichever we don't use we can pass along to a friend. My DD (baby #2) needed to be changed immediately after putting the outfit on and of course ended up peeing all over her outfit. Luckily we had another outfit to put her in (thanks to my parents). We put the outfits (that they wore home) in shadow boxes with pictures of them in the outfits, along with some other hospital keepsakes. I wouldn't blow the budget on anything, but I think it's nice to have something special :)
