I always had a feeling that LO would arrive on October 8, two days late just like his big sister, and it turns out I was right! He arrived last night around 7 in the evening weighing in at 7lbs8oz and 21 inches long.
DD was born 4 hours after my first sign of labor (contractions) so I was totally worried about having a taxi-cab baby this time around, but things went down totally different this time around. I started having light cramping and my bloody show around 8am and at 10am my water broke (like others have said I felt a "pop" and then I was a gusher going through 4 of DD's diapers before we got out the door). It took a few hours for contractions to start, then another 3 hours or so for them to become regular, but when they did they were fast and furious with only a minute or two in between. I went without an epidural with DD, but since things were moving slower this time (I was still only 4cm dilated) I decided to get one. From there, it was another two hours or so of labor and about 6 pushes and he was here.
While I went into this planning to do med-free again, I'm happy to have had the chance to experience two very different births. I'm glad I had the natural experience once, but man it was so much easier with the epidural this time around! Going from 6-10 cm DH and I were discussing travel plans, Ukrainian politics, totally relaxed except for when I started to get cold and a bit shaky as I became fully dilated. I feel like DD's entrance to the world was more raw and super-charged with emotion, while DS's was more calm and peaceful. Both wonderful, just different. So now we're chilling in the hospital waiting to introduce DD to her little brother when she wakes up from her nap!
