Lol thanks but don't do that. It would be no fun here without our banter.
  • I have a dorky one - I have book 2 of a trilogy on hold at the library (I'm freakin next on the list but it's been FOREVER!!!).  Anyway, book 3 was there the other day so I checked it out so I can read 2 and 3 back to back once 2 comes in....totally went around whoever has 2 now though...they'll probably be irritated but oh well.  Haha.  I'm such a loser.

I'm renewing a lot of my identification because it is expiring. I used to think I would take this opportunity to finally change my name but I don't really want to. I know this annoys my inlaws because they are very traditional but whatever. I do what I want. ;-)
Also you know, the usual confessions of judging others, thinking about leaving for a desert island because my kids are nuts, and letting them have donut holes so they stop screaming and clawing at my legs.
  • I read an article about enterovirus this week and freaked out because L has been coughing/sneezing and is prone to croup/respiratory infections. DH has since talked me down.
Because you're mine, I walk the line....

  • Ok I got a good one. Don't say I didn't warn you...

I'm part of local support group. There's this mom there that's always begging for free shit. Believe it or not but I wouldn't mind giving handouts to someone in a tough time but I refuse to give this woman a thing. Why you ask? Because every time we go out she blows a bunch of money on herself. One time she was whining about how she needed an ergo and couldn't afford the $100+ price tag. At that point I had one sitting in storage I wasn't using. I gave her some ideas of Craigslist has them used for about $40, there's an infantino one that's $30 new, etc. she claimed she couldn't afford $30 then proceeded to order herself two mixed drinks, an appetizer (not shared just for herself) and an entree that probably totaled $50 before tip. Yup definitely gave that carrier to someone else.

Nope I have a "friend" and do the same thing with her. Earlier this year she was begging and had a go fund me for her sons dental surgery (that is their fault he needed) and her husband just posted about his new ipone 6+. Of course he got the lost expensive one. So nope I don't give them money either. This week they needed someone to buy from their sons fundraiser and begged everyday on Facebook, they leave for Disney next week. Nope.
  • I feel genuine sadness for Amanda Bynes. It's not like I even have seen anything she's been in. But she obviously is sick, and tmz posts videos of her doing stuff. It's sad.
I feel sick watching people like AB, Shia LeWhatever, Miley, etc. It's like watching a mental illness documentary in real time. If it was the Truman Show there would be a clock counting down to their ultimate breakdown.
  • I made chocolate pumpkin brownies yesterday.  DH ate one and said something about not liking pumpkin as much as I do.

I am retaliating by making thai pumpkin soup for dinner.

  • See that's why I can't get all ragey about blanket statements. I'm not implying that there's not millions of exceptions to the rule. I just don't have universal sympathy for everyone who says they can't afford something because money. Many are the victims of circumstances but many create it for themselves.

This kind of stuff is so weird to me. I mean why do grown adults act like this. I can't imagine being mean to anyone let alone my husband because I wasn't adult enough to confront him when he pissed me off.

  • I used a magic eraser to get a temporary tattoo off C's arm for school picture day. She said it didn't hurt, but it stayed a little red all day. I felt bad, but am still glad the stupid tattoo isn't in the picture.

Me too! And People. Guilty pleasures.

Last night I was in NO MOOD for DS's bedtime shenanigans and told him he wasn't going to go on his class filed trip to the pumpkin patch. I fully plan on having him "earn it back" today because that was a dick move

No, it's not mean, and I used retaliating in a joking way.  He didn't say he hates pumpkin, he said he doesn't like it as much as I do.  So he gets to try it another way.  The man will eat an entire pumpkin pie by himself.

I did the same thing with butternut squash, served it different ways until he found something he likes.  Now he loves eating it.

ETA: He also once told me how much he hated cheese while eating pizza and fried mozzarella sticks.  He apparently does not understand food.

And I just checked and apparently he ate another brownie for breakfast so he didn't think they were all that bad.
This sounds so momish. Like I will keep trying food a different way so you learn to like it. Like he is 4. I hate pumpkin soup but pumpkin pie is my favorite. I would be pissed if another adult treated me like a child over it.
  • Go fund me sites are getting out of hand. I'm not paying for your college or helping you raise 25k bc you got laid off yesterday.

Yep I don't mind helping with unexpected medical expenses but I am not paying for something you just don't want to.

I love pumpkin everything, but I'm not so sure about pumpkin soup. Is it sweet? Like, a dessert soup? I just don't get it.

Well, he doesn't feel that way.  Neither of us grew up eating super healthy food, we've both made an effort to acquire different tastes.  And if he actually legit hated something, no, I would not make it.  He legit hates ravioli, so I only have that when he's gone.  But seriously, broccoli is not my favorite, but he likes it, so we eat it.  Why is that such a big deal, FFS?

Because the way you are going about it is odd. You basically said he doesn't know what he likes. He's not a child.

I see nothing wrong with presenting ingredients in a different way to see if somebody likes them better.

He doesn't.  Or he didn't on many things.  Neither did I.  It goes the other way, too.  I used to hate seafood, and he kept having me try some.  Now I enjoy most seafood.

Seriously, if all he ate was the stuff he thought he liked when we started dating, the only "vegetables" he'd be eating would be corn and potatoes.  Why is it so mind blowing that people might not have tried something before and might like it, or that foods can taste completely different when cooked a different way?  I had steamed brussel sprouts and swore up and down that I hated them, but someone made roasted brussel sprouts for me once and I love them that way.  There's nothing "momish" about it.  One can continue to explore and find new foods to enjoy past childhood.

  • I agree I like lots of foods now I didn't as a child. Like sushi.
  • I don't care about who is pregnant, who is getting married, and who has a drug problem (celebrity wise). I don't give two shits about the princess being pregnant again. I didn't watch the royal wedding either. This is more of an UO but I didn't think of this until today so..

H: Gee Honey, I don't really care for pumpkin like you do
Wife: (((thinking))) ha - just for that I am making pumpkin soup

Hey, we try new stuff all the time. But I ask him if he is interested in trying this new recipe and if he says no, I move it to a night he is working.  He can choose to try it if he likes. He's an adult who can make his own choices.    I would be pissed if I said I didn't care for pumpkin and he made a soup the next day. I would think he wasn't even considering my feelings or listening to me.
Well yeah, if I went into the whole background of how we like to try new foods it would hardly be a good FFFC, would it?

That story about the cop and the car seat -- I judged big time. It was full of holes. Like, if she had to go pick the girl up at her dad's, why did she bring the booster seat the dad supposedly had back with her? And yeah, then I looked at the picture and I was like "I assure you this girl had $40." None of it changes the fact the cop did a good thing. I jut think the mom is probably lying asshole.

I kind of thought her hair looked like the type of cut you have to maintain. I feel like a dick for saying that but I did think it.

I think a lot of the people who create the problem themselves do it because they're victims of their own circumstance. You need to be taught how to make a budget. If you grow up poor, you won't know how to manage money if you are fortunate enough to have some extra. And when you're used to living day to day (or pay check to pay check), it can be really hard to look into the future and think about savings.

ETA: Like, I hear a lot, "Yeah, I bought a $20 drink but the thing I need costs $100 so it's not like it would pay for it anyway." If you were never taught how to budget, it would be hard to learn that on your own.

Reading TB makes me realize how limited our dinner is. We have the same like 8 meals for dinner. DD has the most variety because she loves fruit and we encourage that but DH and I rarely change it up.

Maybe we should re-institute cookbook night where we pick a new recipe and make it.

  • @rosesandpetals‌ I think some people would have a hard time learning it. Some people, like me, have seen the shit their parents went through and I am the complete opposite. The amount of debt my parents have is staggering and the shit they've done to get to that point is ridiculous. I taught myself how to manager my money and I err on the side of caution because I'm terrified I'll turn out like them (in regards to credit card debt, living above your means, etc.). If you've lived and seen that side of life (massive debt, mismanagement of budget and money) and still throw caution to the wind, then that's on you (general).
