  • YES! I got one. My nurse told me they have a special shot for pregnant ladies...I guess. That's the one she gave me.

  • Yes, and my obgyn advised my bf & anyone who will come into close contact with my newborn to get one as well.
  • I've never had a flu shot  and still may not. OB said it's suggested but still a choice I have to make.

  • When I worked in the hospital we were required to or if we chose not to get one we had to wear a mask. I'm a little shocked your hospital does not have a similar policy in place.
  • I got mine today. They have one without mercury and with out preservatives sometimes used in vaccines for pregnant women but you can also get the regular one. My midwife said pregnant women are more susceptible to getting sick because of a weakened immune system, and she highly recommended every pregnant woman that can get the vaccine do so.
  • Both my OB and primary doctors said they strongly recommend the flu shot. I was also told my husband and the grandparents should get the flu shot as well since the baby will be born in flu season.
I asked about the thimerisol (sp?) and was told that most places are getting rid of it any way so just ask at your office. Mine did not have it in their vaccine.

  • Yes, I am a teacher and there is no reason why I would not get the flu shot. My OB just said to not get the nasal spray one. He didn't say anything about a special one when I asked him. He also told me to get the TDAP shot at 30 weeks even though I had it last pregnancy a little over a year ago.
  • Yes.  I will be getting the thimerosal-free one (no preservatives) and am waiting for my doctor to receive them, which should be next week.  I get one pretty much every year.  DH and I are both teachers and DS is in daycare part time so we're exposed to pretty much everything.  I will do pretty much anything I can to improve my chances of avoiding the flu.

  • I will echo pretty much everyone else and say yes. I got one on Wed. My OB recommended it, but they don't have them at the office. So I went to my PCP and got it.

  • I'm surprised it's not mandatory at your hospital. I'd be terminated if I declined for any reason other than medical or religious in nature.

Protect yourself and the patients in your hospital. Get the shot.

This! I also work in a hospital (office setting) and got my preservative free one. DH will also be getting one this year.

  • Yes! Just got mine today too. Made sure it was the one without the mercury preservative. My DD's will be getting thiers this month also.
  • I'll definitely be getting mine soon and DH will be getting his as well. It's still going to be flu season when baby girl is born and I want her to have some sort of protection against it.
  • My kids just got theirs and my son had to have the mist. Big mist he's sick now. Aghh. I get mine nxt Wednesday but don't really want to do it now.lol. I know its for best. But seeing my lil guy sick feom something that's suppose to make it better is a lil upsetting.
  • Yup, especially if you are in a hospital!

  • I got one, DS got one and DH will get one. I think that working in the hospital it should be important to get one.

If you actually read the insert to the flu vax pamphlet it states that it is not advised for pregnant mothers because it has not been thoroughly tested.
  • From experience I know that, while pregnant, a cold feels like the flu and the flu feels like death, so yes - flu shot for me, please! Most likely your OB would recommend it.
  • My dr told me it was up to me if I wanted to get it! I've never received the flu shot. At my next appt I'll be able to get it if I decide to and will be getting the DTAP next month I believe. I've never been one to jump on getting the flu shot but I may because of the baby.

Hmmmm my 1 year old received the shot on Monday e her other vaccines and my older two had the mist yesterday ... They haven't had trouble w it before, but sheesh , hope they don't get sick ! I better run out and get my shot tomorrow!

  • You have to wonder why they have a "safe" one for pregnant women, but they use one with mercury preservatives for everyone else. I understand the cost factor of saving money, but why wouldn't they want everyone to have the non-preservative shots?

Its like eating organic vs. GMO. Obviously 1 is the better choice.
    Anniversary

  • I'm getting the shot ASAP. Its a no-brainer for me. The rewards far outweigh any minimal risks.

But - to each their own.

  • @Stephanie2378‌ why does that freak you out? No dog is harmed and you won't become a dog. The use of non human DNA is a very old technology that provides a safe way of creating an effective but not infective vaccine.

Every modified live vaccine has DNA from a different species. Usually chicken is used but due to allergies they have changed the source to reduce allergic reactions.
Love is like infinity: You can't have more or less infinity, and you can't compare two things to see if they're "equally infinite." Infinity just is, and that's the way I think love is, too.

Somehow I'm more comfortable with a chicken egg. Probably because it's been used for so long with the only issue being allergic reactions.

And no need to be a smartass. I'm well aware that I won't become a dog. Maybe it'd make me even "bitchier". Ha ha.
I'm not comfortable with it. End of story.
I am just trying to understand your discomfort because it has proven safer than the chicken protein. The only issue being allergic reaction is a HUGE issue.
