Hearing the heartbeat opinions!

Hello everyone! I tried looking for a thread about this but couldn't find one so please point me in the right direction if I missed it!

But I have a questions that I need a little feedback!

My husband and I are scheduled to go in for an ultra sound at 11 weeks 3 days to hear the heartbeat. My question is, do you think that will be too early to hear it with the belly ultra sound done right in the doctors office? We are going on vacation and would like to hear it before we go to ease our mind but I don't want to go if it could possibly be too early and we wouldn't be able to hear it and I would spend the entire vacation freaking out you know?

I'm measuring at 8 weeks 1 day today and the heartbeat was 154!

Thanks everyone!!

  • im 10 weeks, had a vaginal US yesterday and HB was 180. Im unsure what your question is! How did you hear the heartbeat already?

  • I went it at 8 weeks 5 days and we didn't hear a heartbeat. But the nurse pointed out the beating heart on the U/S. I would've liked to have heard the heartbeat but she didn't seem at all concerned and said that it would be too much for the baby to handle, I personally think she just didn't want to do it. The baby measured perfectly and that's really all I needed to set my mind at ease. He/She even waved a little :-h

  • Sorry! We still have not heard it only have seen it on through the vaginal ultra sounds! Thank you ladies! I just don't want to cause myself more stress! Which is easier said than done..haha
  • I had an abdominal ultrasound done at 8wks 6 days and the ultrasound tech was able to see everything perfectly and I'm also a little fluffy :)

  • Our doctor will not check with a Doppler until 12 weeks exactly. They do not bother checking before for the reason you stated (they don't want to freak anyone out). For my first we went in at 11w5d and they wouldn't check so I actually had to wait until 15 weeks to hear the heartbeat for the first time.

  • Just saw ours today at 6 and a half weeks.
  • The doc was able to get a pic and hear the heartbeat with an over the belly u/s at 10.5 weeks for me.
  • that was transvaginal though. Haven't had over the belly yet.

I had a belly US yesterday at 10w3d and heard the HB. The Doppler didn't work because my uterus is tilted backwards.

Same thing happened to me! The Doppler couldn't pick it up and neither could the belly ultrasound because my uterus was too far back. Maybe next time!
  • Doppler is working for me. OB found it yesterday with doppler at 10w6d. I found it today with my doppler. OB had to HUNT for it, but found it eventually. Was really low near pelvic bone. I also have a tilted uterus.

Yup. DS is Tommy Pickles! Nothing like living with an escape artist.

  • If you're having an ultra sound you'd definitely see it.  I don't get why hearing it would make you feel more comfortable so long as you can see the beating heart on the ultrasound.

But, if we're talking using a doppler, my doc would try as early as 10 weeks with the caveat don't freak out if he couldn't find it.  But, he was always able to find it.  We did the doppler check at appointments I wasn't having an ultrasound.  Doing both seems redundant.

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • @tinyjoys I had the same thing happen at 5w 5d which personally I was reluctant to think that it was really what we were hearing and at 8w 5d it was so loud you couldn't deny it. I hope op can hear her babies hb

  • Typically OB doctors will only do transvaginal ultrasounds in the first trimester because it's a better image. A doppler can pick up the heart beat between 9-10 weeks. Maybe a bit earlier on slender women.
  • I read something that the early ultrasounds (around 6-9 weeks) the heartbeat sound you are hearing is simulated by the machine. The baby's heart is just to small to make a sound yet.

I'm just throwing that out there, I haven't done my research on this yet. I'd love to hear from someone that knows if this is true or not.
    Fucking bump!!!!
