A lot of times the water is so you have a semi-full bladder which allows for better images with transabdominal ultrasound. Congrats on a great NT scan OP.
I have mine on Monday. I have a stupid question though - I see so many people online talking about how you have to drink x amount of water beforehand - I was not given any instructions regarding drinking water. Is there something I don't know that I need to know? I feel like an idiot...
I wasn't told anything either and didn't know and went to the bathroom before my appt. Of course, my bladder was empty - the u/s tech said that with a full or semi-full bladder it is easier to see the baby. If they can't see the baby then they will have to do a vaginal u/s. Thankfully, they were able to see my LO with an empty bladder! Good Luck.
Interesting! My NT scan is October 10th and my instructions are to finish drinking 1 litre of water 1 hour before my examination and not go to the washroom until after my examination. I can eat normally.

It was suggested to us we get the NT scan for our twins by a high risk OB at our genetic counseling appt. We were told we aren't at risk for anything major but my sister had some issues (non- genetic) so they said to be sure our babies don't have any structural abnormalities we should get it done. They can't do the blood test portion of it with multiples though. We are still on the fence whether or not we want it, I'm just so worried about a false positive making me worry for the next 6 months....and they say even if the results r thickened NT it offen goes away by birth. So I'm kinda like....what's the point anyway. Anyone find any further research or have a dr explain things differently?
I had mine last week! It was amazing. My little peanut was all about his/her thumb too. You can even see it in the ultra sound picture! I loved every second! Can't wait for my next ultra sound

There is way too much personal information on that ultrasound. And how is it possible that kids born in 93' are having kids? I graduated high school in 97. My God I'm old!
Well it won't let me delete the picture. It's really not a big deal. It says my name and birth date. If I could take it down I would.
And "SMFB" my age really should not matter at all. My husband and I are very excited and extremely capable of having a child so thank you for you concern, but no thanks. I didn't appreciate that.
