Harlyn Elizabeth???

I just found out I'm having a girl! ! I'm stuck on the name but sometimes moms tend to be blind on how weird or outrageous their babys name is. So what do y'all think. Yes or no?

  • See I've gotten comments from friends that it doesn't sound very feminine. I don't want to name her after me so Hayley is out of the question :)
  • It's nms but it's not terrible. I like Harley better.

  • It's nms.  It sounds a bit country/rednecky to me, but I'm from GA, so I hear a LOT of rednecky names :)

  • I prefer Harper, Hayden or even Harlow. Just my opinion :)
  • I just searched it on Nameberry and it only has it as a boy name (variation of Harlan), even though the "y" makes it feminine to me.

  • I agree with the PPs. While several "old man names" are coming back in style for girls (ex Sydney, Perry, Jules, I even know a Murray) I'm not sure id want to be the one trend setting in that style unless it has a certain significance for you.

  • I personally love Harlow & Harper, but at the end of of the day it's your baby!
  • Supreme Court justice Harlynn Elizabeth Smith. Do you like it?
  • This is not directed at the OP just a side note about names. One of the nurse practitioners at my doctor's office is named Princess. I was watching an Hgtv show and one of the guests was named Velvet. I'm sure both names sounded adorbs for a baby but what about now?
  • Ted ruined -lyn names for me (FI's daughter is a -Lynn which is nms)... They make it too country for me.. My name was always easy to find at souvenir shops so I can't speak from first hand experience but it seems to me we hear more from ladies with unique names who didn't enjoy having to explain them to everyone...

In summation: not the worst made up name we've come across... But I wouldn't choose it.

I actually work with a girl named Princess and there was a girl in my graduating class named Princezz America

Have they mentioned how much they love their name?

I'm really biased against unique names. My whole life my name has been a burden to me. It's mispronounced and misspelled. I hated it (and still do). I longed to be an Elizabeth or Jennifer. My dad still thinks my name is awesome and he's so proud of naming me.

All of my kids have regular names as will this new guy. I'll let their personalities be unique rather than their names.
  • I don't like it. I wouldn't even be sure how to pronounce it either.

  • I am absolutely IN LOVE with the name Harlan for a boy but I was blessed with a girl so I converted it to a more girlish spelling. I looked up Harlyn and yes it can be for both boy and girls and yes I'm country, very country. Lolx. I looked it up and since 2012 its becoming more popular and it means "From the Army" and her daddy just happens to be in the army. Also what is NMS? I'm new here and don't know the abbreviations y'all usen
  • Nms means not my style. If you really love it than go ahead and use it. It will likely be met with a similar reaction as here in most places.

Something you may want to consider is that if you choose to have more kids you may wind up with a boy. Would you rather use it for your daughter now or your son later? It may also help to know that done of the women who are giving opinions are teachers, HR reps and employers. They are giving opinions as they may recieve the name coming across their desk.

Like I mentioned earlier, is not the worst name I've heard but I'm not a huge fan of it either. If you still love it with all that in mind then if say go with it.

I've been thinking about the name all day and it's totally grown on me, whereas before I kind of crinkled my nose when I read it..  I get why you're stuck on it.  I might make it Harlynn with two "n"s to make it even more girly.  If you and Harlyn's dad love it, do it.

Harlynn was our choice for a girl, but we found out we are team blue. Ours was going to be Harlynn Ruth. I'm glad someone can get use out of a beautiful name!!

  • Not a fan; it sounds made up. Perhaps it isn't but even then it isn't appealing.
  • NMS but I don't hate it. I agree with PP and spelling it Harlynn instead of Harlyn.
  • I'm not a fan of Harlyn.
  • Noooo dont do it! Harlan is a boys name. The random Y does not make it feminine.

  • I don't hate it, but I do think Harlow or Harper sounds much better. I always think of nicknames too, so would you be calling her "Harr?" That sounds awkward to me.

I think the only people who can get away with extremely unusual names are celebrities, since its very unlikely their children will be applying for jobs when they get older.
