Want to be successful 2nd time around

I'm only 14 weeks with baby #2, but any books/websites you can recommend would be awesome! I had a terrible time BFing my DD. She was born premature, wouldn't latch so I pumped. Tried to get her to nurse for 2 months, but it just didn't work out. LC was not helpful. Found out when she was 16 months old that she had a terrible lip tie and dr. said there is no way she could have latched. UGH! I EPed for almost 15 months and I don't want to do that again. I just want to be successful this time! Where should I begin researching? Thank you!

Re: Want to be successful 2nd time around

  • I couldn't get my first to latch and never had a good supply to pump for him. I felt so much frustration over it, I was determined to do as much as possible to make things better this time. I read one of the big BFing books and thought through what I might have done wrong last time so I could have a better plan this time. As soon as I went to L&D, I told every nurse I had that I wanted to BF and needed as much help as possible. They made sure I got immediate skin-to-skin time and put me on the LC's schedule right away. Every nurse I had encouraged and helped me, but my little guy just couldn't latch to begin with. The LC helped me get him latched with a shield. My milk came in without any trouble this time, and L weaned himself off the shield around 6 weeks. Long story short, the second time around has been much different for me bc I was proactive about getting help.
