2nd Trimester

Second Baby - a couple of questions

I have a couple of questions:

 1) what kind of sushi am I ALLOWED to have?

 2) What kind of exercises can I do at home with a 2 year old at home? No time at all to go to the gym.

 3) Does it take longer for the weight to come off once I give birth?

 4) Do you gain more with a second pregnancy?

Thanks!!!

Re: Second Baby - a couple of questions

  • 1) nothing raw - so they say
    2) whatever you were doing prior to pregnancy unless your doctor says otherwise
    3) No idea - that depends on your body and what you do after birth
    4) That depends on you - if you gained too much with the first you could gain less (or more again), if you gained a normal amount with the first it could go either way

  • 1) You're "supposed" to avoid raw and high mercury fish.  But IMO if it's from a reputable place and only once in a while you're fine.

    2) I do prenatal yoga from a DVD at home.  I go to a gym a lot (I work in one) but prefer stuff at home just because I can do it on my time off without having to go back to work.

    3) Depends on your body.

    4) You should gain whatever amount your doctor says you should.  The average woman should gain between 25-35 pounds depending on her pre-pregnancy weight.  Whether you gain more or less has a lot to do with your diet and sickness level during your pregnancy.  I gained 50 pounds last time and hope I don't gain that much this time.  Going off my doctor's recommendation I am aiming for a 27 pound weight gain with roughly 2 pounds every 3 weeks.  I'm up to 9 pounds at 16 weeks so right on track.

I’m a modern man, a man for the millennium. Digital and smoke free. A diversified multi-cultural, post-modern deconstruction that is anatomically and ecologically incorrect. I’ve been up linked and downloaded, I’ve been inputted and outsourced, I know the upside of downsizing, I know the downside of upgrading. I’m a high-tech low-life. A cutting edge, state-of-the-art bi-coastal multi-tasker and I can give you a gigabyte in a nanosecond! I’m new wave, but I’m old school and my inner child is outward bound. I’m a hot-wired, heat seeking, warm-hearted cool customer, voice activated and bio-degradable. I interface with my database, my database is in cyberspace, so I’m interactive, I’m hyperactive and from time to time I’m radioactive.

  • 1) All types of sushi from a clean, reliable place is safe to eat. I order sushi at a high end japanese restaurant where it's prepared on order, but will not get it at a grocery store where it has been sitting out all day. The risk of contamination is dismal. You are more likely to get a food borne illness from cross contamination at home (using the same cutting board, for instance), not washing your veggies properly, or from a fast food restaurant where 16 year olds ignore health codes. If you are truly concerned (and you shouldn't be) then only eat tempura rolls where the meat has been battered and lightly fried before rolling it.

    2) Walking with your child in a stroller. Fit something in during his/her naps. The same exercises you did before getting pregnant should still work fine. The main thing I do is put on music and use 3 lb weights and a yoga mat to just keep doing exercises until all of my muscles are tired.

    3) This is very personal and no one can tell you. In general, I will say most people have a harder time losing weight as they get older and their metabolism slows. So you are older now, so probably yes? I don't know and there is no way for anyone to know. Eat healthy and stay active. Breasfeeding helps burn calories as well.

    4) Once again very personal. I'm only on my first so I have no personal experience. Your body is different with every pregnancy. If you are eating less healthy or exercising less this time around, then yeah you probably will gain more. If you are busier running after a toddler and cooking even more healthy now that you have a LO to feed, then perhaps you will gain less. If you never lost the weight from your first then you will end up gaining on top of that. No one knows your situation or eating habits, so no one can say for sure.

1 I ate all the things.  Moderation is key.

    2.  Are you planning on throwing around kettle bells?  Any kind you'd normally do at home?

  • walking is great! I just picked up some prenatal dvds and love them! my hips no longer hurt, and my back feels great! I still run 3-4 times/week, but I was doing  days before I was pregnant.

  • 1.  I never eat sushi but I would eat what you ate before in moderation.

    2.  Walk, yoga DVDs while your LO is sleeping.

    3.  I lost less weight right off the bat the second time.  It took a little more work.

    4.  I gained 3lbs more.  I think you'll probably gain close to what you gained the first time.  Check with your doctor.

    2. Dance with #1. My boys and I turn on the music and rock out together. It's fun and wears them out. They are 3yrs and 18 mo.
    3. Mine was about the same amount of time.
    4. I gained 2lbs more with #2 than #1.
