Nicknames for this LO?

So I haven't seen anyone bring up "in utero" nicknames yet (maybe I missed it - sorry!).  Have you got a nickname for your LO right now?  (And is it the same for those that are not team green now that you know the sex?)  Or are you already sharing the baby's name & just referring to it by your chosen name?

I've never been a "bean" or "nugget" or "peanut" kind of nickname person. DH & I called DS "Ndamukong" (big-name Husker player at the time) before he was born because people kept asking if we'd come up with a name yet & we didn't feel like sharing.  Until we knew, we just kept on throwing out "Katniss if it's a girl & Ndamukong if it's a boy" to try & drive the point home that we weren't sharing the name.  ;)

This one (boy), has been a lot harder to give a nickname to . . . so far he's just been Moonpie to me, Phelps to DH (he thinks it's funny - it was his fastest swimmer. . . I just can't with that one.)
Myles was so pumped about the baby . . . until he figured out he'd have to share all his toys!!!

Re: Nicknames for this LO?

  • We have been alternating between Alex (Short for his name), and since hes been moving a ton "little alien", because it feels so freaky.  We had been calling him Fishy for the first several months because our ob said he kept "swimming" away from the heart rate monitor.
Me: 34    DH: 28.  Married Jan 2012.  Started TTC Jan 2014.  Got our first BFP April 28th. Baby Boy Born: December 24 2014

  • I call him Little Man or Little Dude when I'm talking about him to DH, or baby bean sometimes. DH usually calls him by his name and I do that when I'm talking about him to other people. If i'm talking directly to him (cause, I am totally already laying some ground rules lol) I say either his name or little man.

  • The girls and i call him Duke (short for his name) The ultrasound ladies call him flash bc hes there one min and gone in a flash and they have spent a lot of time chasing him down
  • We call our LO "newt" but now-- thanks to @NatureLovers‌-- I think of the politician every time I say it! ;)

  • We call him Baby Meatball. We've called him that since the beginning, and even though we have a sex and an actual name, it has still stuck.

  • We call our LO Tomatillo, we aren't settled on the name yet and when we do we probably won't tell people until it arrives, so Tomatillo it is until then.

  • DH has been calling him the name that he wants (Gavin, NN Hawk), but I always say, "The baby does not respond to that name" because I'm not sold on it.

I don't think we had a name before we knew the sex. DH called it my parasite (in a loving way). I just called it (and still call it) the baby.
  • @Pips09 LOVE baby meatball. That's for sure one of the best nicknames I've heard so far.

For the first few months we called our baby "the little shrimp monster" or "LSM" for short, because we think tiny embryonic humans look like crazy shrimp people.

Lately we either call her by her name (Elsa) or we call her "tiny".

We started by calling her the stereotypical "Nugget."  Then even before we confirmed it as a girl we started calling her "Princess" and "Princess Nugget."  And again, before we found out from A/S she was really a she we had already decided she was Charlotte and kept calling her that. Thank goodness she was really a girl.  DS, on the other hand, started by calling the baby "Batman" and then when he he found out it was a sister he started calling her Baby Sister and Batgirl.  :x

Edit:  Because words are hard...and so are complete sentences...

SO dubbed this one "bean sprout" and has taken to calling her "sprouty".  i call her "beanie" sometimes.  she's "the child" on bad days (i do the same thing with DS...NOT in front of him though, lol), and "parasite" on really bad days.  DS just calls her "baby" or "baby sister".

ETA: DS was "tadpole" in utero.  i still call him "tad" a lot of the time.  his name is robert, so people get all confused, wondering how i got "tad" from robert.  lol

  • We are team green and we call it "The Cub" or "The Babe".  Cub is in our last name, so thats how that one came to be.
  • I call her baby girl. DH calls her by her name (Emily) but only when we're alone because we aren't sharing the name with family and friends yet. My mom got so frustrated not knowing the name that she started to call her Molly. She'll say something like  "I'm going to get Molly a car seat for my car" or something random like that and I don't even understand who she's talking about. It makes me laugh though because she's clearly just so anxious to know the name!
  • We call our baby Beardyface. My husband has a pretty sweet beard so everyone jokes that the baby will come out with a sweet beard also.

  • We are Team Green and I call the LO Green Bean
  • We were calling him Wiggles, because that's all he would do. Now we call him Thumper because...yeah.
  • We used to come up with a different ridiculous name each day, but my MIL and I are huge outlander fans, and after finishing the 8th book my MIL called him Oggie, which has stuck! (Ogglethorpe, Oggie for short)

'we're calling him Ogglethorpe' also does a good job of deflecting inquiries about his real name!

  • We called her Blobby before finding out she was a she.  H hated it though.  Now we call her Gremlin or by name.
  • We generally refer to her by her name, Aylah.  Sometimes we call her piglet, because my nickname is Piggy or baby bear, because DH's nickname is bear.

  • I've referred to her as "baby 2.0" or just "baby" or "baby sister" once we learned she was a girl.  I don't usually do the cutesy names.

I also refer to her as her name (Aria), when shes brought up in the discussion of future plans, etc.

Cat leg goes crazy and beats itself in the face

  • We call him Mini.  We occasionally refer to him by his name, but since we are trying to keep the name secret until birth, I don't want to get into that habit. I'm afraid one of us will slip and say his name in front of other people.  So we are sticking with Mini :)
  • We're team green, and we've been calling LO Stormy since...I don't know 16 weeks maybe. I liked it because I thought it was gender neutral (DH thinks it sounds boyish, but several of my friends think it sounds more like a girl name). It's also a Doctor Who reference. :-)

  • Still don't know the sex, but my 11yo daughter calls it "Marielle" because she thinks it's a girl, and that's probably our girl name. Me and SO just call it "the baby". We're boring.

  • my son can't say 'peaches', just 'peach.' so we call her that mostly.

My mom heard him talking about 'baby peach' and asked me, "oh, so do you have a baby name chosen yet?" and I was like "yeah, Peaches!" and she was like "NO. Brittany, you can't."  I was like "why not?" and she was like "That's a BAR name! You can't do that!"

    LOL
  • a "bar" name?  that's new.  lol

  • Before we knew the sex we called the baby Leroy bc it was the last name on a top 1000 we read after I got pregnant and clearly not a name we would use for real. After our A/S Leroy became Lola because we haven't picked her real name yet.
  • mmblake08 said:

We just call her little girl, I dunno why we just do. Occasionally I use her name, Adelaide.

That is our middle name. Love it!!
  • We called DS Prometheus before he was born, so we decided to stick with the Greek myths and have been calling this one Atlas.  We do have names picked out, we just aren't sharing them yet.  :)

  • We called him "Dos" (Spanish for two) until we knew the sex. Know we call him Viking, Big Boy or Babysaurus. He's measuring big so far. Lucky me.

Baby Girl when we're talking about her. My friends have taken to calling her Baby Fluffernutter because I had a thing for pb & marshmallow fluff sandwiches for awhile, lol.

    Edit: spelling

  • I usually say "this one" when referring to the baby. People ask how the baby is doing and sometimes they're referring to DD, so I ask "this one?" And point to my belly. We don't have any nicknames for it ATM. We are team green and have names, but since we don't know the sex I don't like to say X or Y.

    BFP #1: 4/2/12 -- DD born 12/15/12. BFP #2: 4/1/14 -- CP. BFP #3: 4/28/14 -- EDD 1/10/15

  • We called DS Prometheus before he was born, so we decided to stick with the Greek myths and have been calling this one Atlas.  We do have names picked out, we just aren't sharing them yet.  :)

I am calling this one prometheus's sons name and was thinking atlas for a middle name!
  • @wcmama1001‌ before we found out he was calling her baby pro(metheus) and then when we actually found out he tried to make Prometheus her middle name. Lol now she's just little lady, we use Haley only when talking to other people.
  • Since they are twin boys we still call them baby A and baby B, but we do have first and middle names picked out for them!:)
  • I call him my little guy or baby boy most of the time. Definitely call him "your son" to my DH when I'm in pain or not feeling well lol

  • Before we knew the gender, we called her Little Gummy Bear, now we just call her Libby, Little Girl, or Wiggle Butt because she always gets jiggy-with-it for the fetal monitor and in both ultrasounds, she was bottoms up!!

  • DS was referred to as "Baby Huey" until we came up with a real name.

When I (jokingly) asked my 2 yr old what we should name the baby, he excitedly yelled "Two!" so the unfortunate nickname of 'baby two-ey' has kind of stuck.

  • We often call baby "ninja" do to all the kicking, punching, head butts and fairly certain round houses ;)
  • I usually call him either Jack or bonito (Portuguese for 'pretty boy') because he's gonna be beautiful :3 Besides, bonito rolls off the tongue so nice!
    image
  • We call him "CC." It is short for Chocolate chip, which is what size he was when we found out I am pregnant! It's stuck so much that I am having a hard time adjusting to calling him the name we have picked for him!
