Breastfeeding

Squirmy Baby

Hi! My LO is 6.5 weeks and I've been doing a lot of lurking lately, as breastfeeding has been tough. I've been working with a LC to improve latch and treat thrush, plus I'm getting LO evaluated for a lip and tongue tie next week. Now, to add to our struggles, she is fighting me at the breast and squirming to the point it causes me pain. She seems angry and I'm not sure why or what to do. Any advice would be great! Just from lurking I already know you are a knowledgable bunch! Thanks!

Re: Squirmy Baby

  • The squirming is totally normal, and temporary.  Sometimes I found nursing while standing and swaying would help, or patting LO really firmly on the butt, or putting one arm under LO and kind of bouncing him while nursing.  And if he really squirmed and wouldn't settle, taking a break may help.  It will get better!

  • Thanks! I will try the swaying and patting.
  • PPs gave good advice to try.  Trying different holds, different rooms and taking breaks helped us.  I remember LO being a stubborn nurser around 6 weeks... he wanted to nurse a lot but then seemed unhappy when doing it.  Hang in there, it'll pass!
