Question

So far a lot of us have been either scheduled for induction/ c section or ended up that route.

Just curious how many had their baby's or plan to with labor starting on its own.

I was induced last time with DS so I don't even know what to expect if I'm not this round :)

Re: Question

  • I suppose I'm just nervous about having to be induced again. I read all the amazing and inspiring birth stories on here (you mamas rock) and most of them say induced or c section.

I guess the question is more directed to how many people already know if they're scheduled already but I didn't want to leave anybody out :)

  • I'm sorry you had to go through that. T&P for you and your lil one. A plus is knowing the date of your baby already!
  • I was induced with DD at 40+2 because they thought she was going to be over 9lbs, she ended up being 7.7. I was also young then I thought it was okay. I almost have to have an emergency CS but at the last minute she can vaginally! So this time around unless there is a medical reason, I'm not going to let my doctor push me into being induced. I actually just got a new doctor at a new practice at 36 weeks because my other one wanted to induce or do an elective CS at exactly 39 weeks with no reason. I'm still 36
weeks and like WTF! I've had absolutely NO health problems or concerns throughout either pregnancy so my doctor just wanted the convince I guess. My new doctor though just said if I wanted to then they would do it after 39 weeks but as long as everything is okay she wouldn't do it until approaching 42 weeks! It's my choice and I like it that way!
  • Yeah I love my doctor and all but he really pushes inductions. I definitely plan to talk w him more at my next apt!
  • I'm having a rcs. I was induced due to low amniotic fluid with my first. I was induced with my second because I was in severe pain and he was really big and we had concerns that he might get stuck. They tried to get my cervix to dilate hoping my labor would progress on it's own but it didn't. They tried that three times and at one point I was in active labor but wouldn't progress. We later found out that his head was too big for the birth canal, so he was trying to come down but he was just hitting his head on my pelvic bones. We finally opted for a c-section so we could get him out safely. I am doing a rcs this because we think it would be safest for the baby.
  • Not planning on being induced. I'm due next Friday and will let baby cook as long as needed. I am going with an OB and delivering at a hospital so I'm sure they'd want to induce during week 42 if baby is not here by then.

I have a friend that delivered her two kids at home and was 15 days late with the first and 17 days late with her second. She was lucky in that no one pushed her to be induced since she delivered at home.

If your dr pushes an induction, I would definitely push back and go with whatever YOU feel comfortable and he can agree to.

  • I'm due on Tuesday 10/07 no plans for c section or induction and I'll refuse if they start asking. I'm a ftm and have had no issues my entire pregnancy. I really want him to come on his own time wether it be a day early or 2 weeks late. I've not had a cervix check yet? It seems like others have one at 36 weeks +. Maybe this is something I should be asking for? I'm not sure because every visit I have is just in and out and a different doctor each time (annoying) and I finally got one of them to predict how big he will be (high 7's maybe 8)
  • I will be induced at 39 weeks unless I go into labor earlier, primarily because of my lupus. I wish I could let her come naturally on her own, so I'd say unless you have a medical reason, try to hold off on induction!

  • I went into labor naturally at 38 weeks. There was talk of adding pitocin to help things along at hour 14 and 21, but baby managed to make progress each time after the threat.

  • My induction is scheduled for next Friday 10/10. I will be 41 weeks at that point. I'm really praying she comes sooner, like now would be freaking awesome. My son come on his due date and this whole time I had led myself to believe she would come early. I've had every possible sign labor is imminent but wake up every day still pregnant. Feeling down :(

  • Labor with my son came on its own the day before his "due date" but I'm thinking now it was triggered by the cervical check a few days previously. I ended up being scared into a csec for failure to progress at 9.5cm for only and hour and a half. So this time new ob and now a midwife I'm more confident in my body to let it happen naturally and avoiding all unnecessary ultrasounds and cervical checks. My ob does however have me scheduled for an induction at 42weeks because of my previous csec but I'm gonna decide when that gets closer whether or not I'll be there for it. My "due date" is today so I'm just trying to be as patient as I can and also taking this time to read up on natural birthing techniques like hypnobirthing and breathing/relaxation exercises.

  • My labor started on it's own with DS at 38w6d. I had a very induction pushy doctor who was concerned that I would have a huge baby (he was only 8.5) and was terrified of getting to my due date but luckily that didn't happen! He was born without any labor inducing meds at exactly 39 weeks, although she pushed pitocin BIG time after I had only been at the hospital for two hours. It was simply because her shift was almost over and she flat out told me she wouldn't be there for the birth if I didn't do the pit, to which I replied "That's fine with me!". The on-call doc delivered him 12 hours later and everything went great!

I agree with some of the other pp's…I don't think inductions are necessary even if your baby is big unless there is a legit medical reason. (which I am thankful for the technology we have today in those cases!) I would say that in the large majority of pregnancies, your body will not make a baby too big for it to birth and baby will come when he or she is fully cooked :)

I switched OB's this time and am so much more comfortable with my new one! No word of induction at all so far…still hoping this one comes early though because I'm tired of being pregnant :).

  • I was induced with my first and labor started naturally with my second the day before my scheduled induction at 40+5.. my doc will schedule an induction at 41 weeks.. last time he offered at 40 and I declined :) good luck mama! :)

You and I are due on the same day! Medically speaking, cervix checks aren't really necessary until >40 weeks. I did one at 37 and again at 39 for curiosity sake. Honestly they don't mean much - you can be stuck at 3 cm for weeks or you can go from 0-5 in a few hours.

No one has given me a size estimation and I haven't asked. I'm doubtful of how reliable those are unless they do an US.

Anyway, I'm like you in that I feel good, so I'm basically not stressing until I get to 41 weeks.
Oh it will be fun to see who goes first! I hope we don't make it to 41 weeks I really don't want to make that decision. The size guesstimate is in no way accurate but I've been asking for weeks for their opinion since I don't think I will be getting any ultrasound. I think I'll opt out of the cervical check if I can then since it's unnecessary and I don't want any testing that could trigger labor- no way! Technically I'll be 39+6 so that can be my excuse to hold off. When it is time I think I will know since my pregnancy is uneventful.

Looking forward to reading what's going on with everyone

  • I showed no progress on my due date last time, contractions and labor started later that day on their own with baby born the next day.

My OB has mentioned that this baby is bigger than last time but hasn't discussed anything more - a size u/s, induction, etc. I'm expecting to learn more at my appt tomorrow and to start the 'when to induce' convo - I'd prefer to avoid it at all possible and plan to wait for spontaneous labor, no matter how many times my family informs me how much easier planning would be with an induction or c/s… :-w
