Sorry if this is long-winded....This may seem like a stupid question but because I have just changed OBs and this is my first pregnancy after my loss.
I got my BFP on Friday and called the new OB on Monday. They told me to come in Tuesday to have my hcg levels drawn. I was exactly 4 weeks ( I was tracking my O). My level came back at 207. They asked me to come back in today for another draw. I will find out the results in the am. I am so nervous and I'm sure you can all relate.
My question is this: How many times did you have a draw before you were seen? All the nurse would say is that the dr would assess it after the results of the second draw and given the history of a missed miscarriage they'd get me in for an early ultrasound. I know levels can vary greatly but they look for the doubling of betas every 48-72 hours.
With my loss I had my first appointment at 9 weeks and they started the appointment off with an ultrasound. Because I was measuring 6w they wanted me to wait a week and come back hoping my dates were off and they'd see a heartbeat at the follow up. Because it was so traumatic I had to request an interim beta count so that I knew prior to the follow up US. My levels dropped so it was apparent and they did the US just to triple check there was no growth or heartbeat.
Having gone through that this is my second question: am I stupid for not wanting an US prior to 7w? I feel like until I see a heartbeat there's no point in "waiting to see if everything develops". Again sorry for the novel but my head is spinning.
**UPDATE**
My levels went from 207 to 496 so I can breathe a sigh of relief for now. They want to do another draw next Thursday (5w 2 or 3d) and then schedule an early ultrasound. They said that they'll do that whenever I'm comfortable. I think it will be a game time decision once I get next week's betas. Thanks again ladies for sharing & for the support.
**SECOND UPDATE**
Just got the results of my third beta drawn yesterday 5w 2 or 3d & they're at 11,406! They asked if I wanted to come in today for an early ultrasound but I want my husband there & that wasn't possible. I opted to wait until next Wednesday which would put me at the 6 week mark and it was also a morning that I could have a sitter for my son. God forbid this scan doesn't go well I don't want to fall to pieces in front of him. I thought I was nervous making these calls for the beta numbers I can't imagine how I'll feel walking in for the scan. Deep breaths and positive vibes I guess.
