Re: Friendly Forgery

  • SS- I have power of attorney, so I do the POA signature too
  • Loading the player...
  • I do it all the time for financial stuff, but not on other legal documents.
  • I've signed his name for checks at restaurants (joint bank account just a question of who's card is used) and of course on cards.

  • On checks or credit cards, but nothing legally binding or anything.

  • Well, you technically wouldn't be allowed to sign anything for someone else that was "legally binding," could you? All that has to be signed in person in front of someone, so all the witness or whoever would have to do would be like, "Uh, you're not your husband. He has to physically sign it himself." Right? :-/

  • Not the same thing, but my mom tried to sign my tax return for me when i was in college so we didn't have to mail it back and forth (this was when you did your taxes in paper!) and they caught us. I had to fill out a bunch of forms with my real signature before they would give me my refund. Oooops.

  • SS I also have a poa so I would just sign my name for his if needed. I do sign his name on cards when he forgets and it's time to send.

Like the other PPs, I have POA. I sign his name on cards all the time too.
  • I've signed his paycheck before, but only when he didn't have time to go to the bank himself. I hate signing his name for him, so it's only when we really need the money deposited ASAP.
  • I'm not married and I do it constantly. He forgets/loses everything it's the only way our finances are ok.
  • I sign his name on credit card receipts and checks sometimes. I wouldn't sign anything big like a loan or something.
  • I sign his checks because they would never get into the bank otherwise. He's never even asked me how I deposit them without his signature so that's how clueless he is about our finances.
  • On checks or credit cards, but nothing legally binding or anything.
The ex-banker in me wants to point out the checks and credit cards are legally binding!

Im curious what the recent situation was?

  • I signed my husband's ballot during the last election because he forgot to vote (but he told me how he wanted me to fill it out for him). He got a call from someone at the DA's office because they flagged his ballot for fraud since the signature didn't match his from years past. He told the guy what happened and got a lecture and reminded that it's a criminal offense to sign for someone else. I will never forge his signature again! I won't even do it on our shared bank account.

  • I sign his name better than he does.
  • I sign his name better than he does.

This. He even hands me things to sign for him. But I will never sign something without his permission.

  • My husband has no "visa" logo on his ATM card but when he uses mine he signs my name all the time. I do sign his name on checks when I deposit them into our joint account. NBD in my opinoin.

  • I sign his name on cards all the time. I've no problem signing on a credit card either, its a joint account so it all comes from the same place.

  • I signed his name on DDs passport renewal. I had left it for him to do and he neglected to. I noticed when I was in line to renew. I signed his name and text him that I has done so. Like other people said already nothing would get done otherwise. But most of the time I shove forms at him and he signs while asking "what am I signing".
  • For those of you with poa, what prompted you to get it?

  • I've never signed anything for DH and it's never occurred to me to forge his signature. I don't even know his PIN number.
  • We have it for when he deploys or goes on his yearly field ops and is hard to reach. It makes things easier to just have it done.
  • I couldn't copy my husband's actual signature if I tried, but will definitely sign his name on cards. I never even thought of that as forgery!
  • I sign his name on his paychecks. He leaves them for me to cash and never signs them.
  • I sign everything for him unless he's standing there to do it himself.  I never even gave it a second thought.
