I know this is a little late but the transition from one child to two is finally getting easier.
Short story: Luster John "LJ" was born 9/21 at 7:45p.m. He weighted 8 lbs. 10 oz. and was 22 inches long. He was born at 40 weeks 5 days.
Long story: I woke up at 5:15 on the morning of the 21st and thought my water was leaking. I was crampy but nothing terrible. I decided to lay down and then see if I felt any gushes when I got up. I got up and felt nothing, so I was disappointed. I however woke my dh up and told him to go get all the cattle and hogs fed just in case.
Fast forward to 8:30 I was having contractions about every 5-7 minutes. The doctor warned me to call at this point because it takes an hour to get to the hospital. I called and he told me to head that way.
We took our time and got there around 10:30 a.m. I was checked and at 3 cm and 90% effaced. The doctor told me time to get walking. So my dh and I found a ramp and walked up and down it for 2 hours. It was around 1 p.m. and I went to be checked and was at 3.5 and 100%. The doctor decided I could stay but it was time to start pitocin.
Finally around 2:30 my IV was put in and pitocin was started. The contractions got closer and I was starting to have to focus to get through them.
At 5p.m. they checked me and I was at 7cm and the doctor broke my water. After this I really had to focus. I thought once my water broke I would be complete quickly after, WRONG!
MY dh was great and knew not to talk to me until after my contraction. I kept saying "Oh something bad" because that song was stuck in my head, or "I'm a turtle." (the nurse left the computer on so I could see that all the woman that came in with me had got epidurals and were all about to deliver. So I kept thinking tortoise and the hare???)
The nurse checked me again at 5:30 and I was 9, with a lip all the way around. From 5:30 to 7:30 was the hardest thing I have ever done. I never imagined I would be stuck at 9 for 2 hours. It didn't seem like 2 hours because I was in my own world in my head talking myself through it.
Finally 7:30 came, and 4 pushes and my chunkster was out. I couldn't believe he was a boy or weighted 8lbs. 10oz.
A side note his name is Luster John "LJ" after my grandfather's name and my husband's grandfather's name. My grandpa was actually in the same hospital the same day due to a stroke so that was definitely on my mind.
My dd definitely loves him, but it has been an adjustment. She still calls him her baby Esther.
