WWYD RE: Housekeeper

Ok, so I found a house keeper on craigslist.  She seemed really nice, we agreed on a price based on how often she would come etc.  I told her if when she gets here and she thinks differently then the quote we discussed on the phone, just let me know and we can figure it out.
For example: I want her downstairs only, (upstairs is a guest room, bathroom and playroom), downstairs is our 3 bedrooms and living area.  She quoted $50 for the "3 bedroom house" that technically is downstairs, but the house is really big.  I personally wouldn't clean it for $50.  That's why I said, let me know..

So originally she was going to come at 9:30 but I forgot Baby J had a pedi appt so I asked her if 11 was ok.  She said sure.  I asked her to call me before she left her house (she thinks she is 20 minutes away) just so I am sure to be home in time and not running late.

She texted me at 10:45 saying she is on her way, it seems further than her husband told her.

It's now 11:30 and she's not here.

This is over 45 minutes now of travel time.  WTH.  Why didn't she mapquest it?  I am new to the area, I gave her my address, I have no idea where anything else is.  I feel awful, but this isn't my problem right?

I'm going to assume she isn't going to want to come back.  (I knew $50 was too good to be true).  But do I compensate her for her travel or anything?  I mean, it's not my fault she didn't map this out.  She could have looked at the map and called back and said um it's an hour away forget it.

Ok I'm babbling.  Thoughts???

Re: WWYD RE: Housekeeper

  • I doubt she will arrive. If she does let her do her thing and maybe add 20 bucks as a tip for the travel time. Then I would find someone closer, maybe you can put an ad up at the local grocery store?

An hours drive and cleaning a 3bd for 50? Whaaaa? How often was she to come?
She was going to come 2x a month.  But she said she was only around 20 minutes away.  I don't think she knew how far she was.  Obviously.  This is just weird now though...it's been 1 hr 15 min.

  • So, did she ever show? If not, did she at least call?

Maybe something happened? I feel like if it was taking longer than expected or she was lost she would call. My cleaning lady is super flaky and is always 1.5 hrs late. I am looking for a new one but she does a good job when she is here.
Just start asking her to come an hour and a half earlier than when you asked her to be there. THEN she'll be "on time." ;)

She did.  About an hour and a half late.  Said she got lost.  So I gave her an extra $10 bc that was all I had in cash and she said she would come back.  Even though it will take 45 minutes.  She said she needed the work...so...I guess whatever.  Doesn't bother me.  I just told her I need her to be here at 9:30 from now on.

  • That makes me sad that she is going to drive 45 minutes for $50.

    Tell me about it.
