  • I don't like the Joel and Julia story line on parenthood the last two seasons.
  • I also dislike Sydney
omg i agree! i feel like she's bratty. :( i really wish joel and julia would get back together. or that they would adopt joel and get rid of julia because i like him more than her.

Thanks @rachaelmary‌ Looking back I *think* DH and I had corn on the cob several times around when we started solids for DD. My pedi, GI, and I all thought it must be the solids that got to her, maybe not. Funny enough, the dairy and soy free bread I bought last week had a blue corn crust. Fingers crossed that's it. At least corn is easy to cut out.

So you aren't able to eat any dairy? I'm really hoping she grows out of it.

No I can't eat any dairy...but I wasn't always allergic. It started when I was probably 12 (well that's when I noticed), but I didn't clue in that it was an allergy making me sick until 7 years ago.

It sounds like it could be a corn allergy If you've eaten that a lot! Maybe she's not allergic to dairy and it's just the corn?
    Wow, that's interesting.

It would be great if she wasn't allergic to dairy but I'm pretty dang sure she is. She started showing symptoms at two weeks, I hadn't eaten corn, and she got better once I cut out all dairy. She had been fine until a month or so ago when symptoms starting popping up again with no clear reason why.
Ahh okay. Well then my guess is corn! It actually is in a lot of things (corn syrup and such) so if you are going to try cutting it out, make sure to read all ingredients! I can eat things with corn syrup as an ingredient, so once you know if it is corn or not for your lo, then you can try those things again and see if they bother her too.
I've been eating products that contain corn all along but this week I've literally had Corn Pops for breakfast and lunch, maybe even dinner once. If she is allergic, I'm thinking that I have to eat a lot of corn for it to have enough of a presence in my milk to affect her.

Dang it, I thought this thread was safe from spoilers! I'll pretend I didn't just read that dirt about Parenthood. Thank you for the kind words, ladies. We just dropped DS off with my parents and there weren't any tears shed by either of us! I'm feeling a tad better, and looking forward to taking a nap once we arrive at the cabin. Now the downfall is that it's freaking cold and rainy and we might get some...wait for it...snow tonight. Boo! @broccolisgirl That sounds like quite the wedding! Can't wait to see pictures. @cara5565 Hooray for fixing TB! It's so annoying when technology doesn't work correctly.

  • Can anyone explain to me the right way to use infant saline nose drops?  I don't get it.  G has a cold and is full of boogers.  Do I use the drops before suctioning his nose/instead of suctioning/after suctioning?  I feel like I missed some class at some point on how to care for an infant with a cold...

Totally thinking of ordering this image
(instead of NoseFrieda because it uses tissues and I don't have to worry about replacing filters)

  • @hammysmommy‌ I use the saline drops, give them a minute, then use the nose sucker. I have the Baby Comfy Nose, it works really well. I got it when DS was a baby. I've found a half square of toilet paper lets me get some good sucking power. It's a little difficult with a full square.

  • Took DD to the doctor for what I thought they were going to tell me was teething. Turns out she has an ear infection, so I'm glad we went. For the record, I can't smell anything in her ear.
:) Well, it could totally all be crock. But he was saying you can really only smell it if you usually are used to the scent of their ears, by smelling it everyday. Glad you went to get it checked out so that you can treat the right thing!!

  • I wrote this big ol thing but then decided not to burden you ladies with my drama. Long story short 1.grandpa is total ungrateful that i uprooted my life to come and help take care of him (and in the process it's tanked my relationship and my personal sanity, not to mention how unfair it is to LO who loses some of my attention to grandpa) 2. I was going to treat myself to a new dress/outfit to wear tomorrow on our day out. And everything I tried on looked awful or didn't fit right bc of my post pregnancy belly. I want to eat all the feelings

  • We were just rear-ended. Well, 45 minutes ago. Cosmetic damage. An officer came to check our car seat.

  • I need all the hugs and reassurance/advice. I'm so upset. :( We just left LO's pedi and he is in the 6th percentile for weight, and the 0.23 percentile for height/weight. Yes, LESS THAN 1 percent.

I don't even know what to say or how to feel.

((Hugs)) How is he being ungrateful? You can always PM me if you want to talk. You aren't burdening anyone. ((Hugs)) again.

Oh no! I hope you're okay. Who was in the car with you?

Ugh, I'm so sorry. Growth stuff SUCKS. What did the pedi recommend? Are you still EBF? Have you introduced solids?

I hope your pediatrician was able to provide a game plan for you guys. W is less than the 5th% for weight and has been since she was born if it makes you feel any better. But I know how stressful it is. :(

  • @paulheath‌ It's not a drop in weight, but it's not a big gain either. In terms of weight percentiles at 4 months he was in the 23rd percentile (? I think). So he went from 23rd down to the 6th/0.23th in 3 months.

This seems confusing how I'm explaining it. Up in weight (a little), down in percentiles (a lot).
  • @codypup Yes, still BF and we introduced solids. He gets solids 2-3 times a day. Ugh. I'm so upset. I'll text you or PM you.

  • @shellbell3845‌ oh my goodness! I'm glad the damage wasn't a lot. Hope everyone and everything else is ok. And I would've called the police too! Especially with LO involved @breadpudding‌ hats gotta be rough! ((Hugs)) was the pedi concerned? And about grandpa being ungrateful, I didn't put the whole story. He does and says things on a regular basis hat makes me feel that he doesn't care. Today just extra sucked. I feel overwhelmed taking care of LO and grandpa at the same time @elf828‌ aww the poor mom! I agree with $hell. Maybe a distraction of sorts? Let mom know you have a LO and you'd be happy to help. Or just reassure her that it's okay and it happens. I'm sure that'd help her out a lot

  • I like @armfruit‌'s suggestion -- ask her how you can help!

@breadpudding, we were there a few months ago, she literally fell off the height for weight chart. It's scary, but she's been a trooper and rebounded and is in the 33ish range now. Some kids put the height on first and the weight will catch up, from what my doc said. That said, we had to take some steps, so we definitely upped her solids and eventually had to go to all bottles because she was a very distracted nurser and my supply wasn't great to start with.

Eta: forgot to say big hugs mama! It's such a mind fuck. But you guys can do this!

  • @breadpudding‌ ((hugs))!! Lo is less than 5% for weight as well. I'm so sorry you have to worry about this! Did the pedi seemed concerned at all by this?

Remember that you are doing a great job mama!! You and your pedi will figure out a game plan and help lo jump percentiles.
  • You guise (all of you), I'm in tears reading your kind words and reassurance. Thank you so much.

This is so stressful! My pedi was concerned, and aside from giving more solids, she all but said that maybe it's my milk. I feel like I'm failing him for selfish reasons. I don't want to quit BF. But I'm really concerned with the quality and quantity of my milk.

Can you get a second opinion? Could you supplement with some formula? Can you add more solids and go back for a weight check in a few weeks? I don't want you to doubt yourself or feel like you're failing him. Because you're not.

  • @Avswolf‌ Thank you for the suggestions. I'm going to try to give him more solids. Also, I'll try to pump once a day and bottle feed him to see how much he is wanting to eat during one session. (Is he eating only 2 oz? 3? 4?) My very last attempt well be to supplement. I FF DS1 after BF for a little bit. So I'm not against formula, I just wanted so badly to be able to successfully BF and I feel like this is being taken from me.

    /cry baby

At the end of the day, I know that something will work out. I just wasn't expecting this news from the pedi today.
