Texting and driving

I really need your help, my H WILL NOT STOP texting while driving even after I've cried and screamed when we came close to accidents several times! Can anyone recommend any news stories or personal stories about the dangers that I can show him? I'm at the end of my rope with him, it may seem silly but this issue is really important to me. We wanted this baby so bad and I'd hate to lose her because of careless driving

Re: Texting and driving

  • They have those commercials that tell of stories that happened when someone was texting and driving. I think it might have been AT&T. I never really did it before, but now I keep my phone in my purse always when I'm driving with the ringer off so I don't get distracted. Too scary. Sorry you're having to deal with this!

I literally just found out that one of my client's (16 year old male) is in the hospital in critical condition. He was the passenger in the car and the driver was texting and driving. I don't know any other details, but this sweet kid is suffering due to someone else's irresponsibility.......

Oh my, I am prating for him. This is my worst fear! Thank you for sharing

  • FFS I would have thrown his phone out the window after the first time. Not acceptable and if he continues to do it I would say my opinion of him is not very high. He shouldn't require an intervention for something that is common sense.

This!! Thank you I feel the same way and don't know why he is being so fucking thick about it. I'm just looking for a way to get it across to him that doesn't seem like nagging. Even though I don't think caring about my health and safety is nagging

  • So did he just start texting and driving since you've been pregnant, or...?

It's gotten much worse recently or maybe I hadn't paid much attention before that's a good question. Maybe I'm just noticing it more. Btw I was telling my H how jealous I am of your mini goats, any chance you have more pics I can squee at?

  • Is it something that you can take his phone before driving anywhere? I can't believe he'd be texting rather than talking to you, in the car. He's got a habit, and a major one.

Does he realize he shouldn't be doing it? Maybe you could suggest that he put his phone in the back seat pocket, or in the trunk. Somewhere unreachable when he gets in the car. There is no reason he needs a phone while driving. If he uses it as a gps, buy a gps. But get it out of his hand so the temptation is not there.

I have had MAJOR issues with this myself. But I'm the one that texts while driving. It's dumb, and I knew it was wrong, but it was almost like an addiction if the phone was within reach. I finally started putting my phone in the pocket behind my seat (unreachable) so the temptation was gone. I can now use my phone again, without the habit, but sometimes I still fall into texting at a stop light and have to remind myself this is NOT ok. (Because it's not!!)

    Good luck!
  • I don't think logic will change his mind. He needs to know you're serious, and he needs consequences.

Seriously I would get out of the car the second he starts up. Call a cab, take a bus, whatever. Walking in the fucking rain is better than being in the car with him behind the wheel.

Do not let him drive your child around until he agrees to stop permanently.

  • Great advice ladies! I'm seriously contemplating refusing to ride with him. To me it's just as dangerous as drinking

  • Check your state laws. Cell phone use while driving is illegal in my state unless it's hands free. It is crazy dangerous to text and drive. I would not feel comfortable with him driving your child if he continues the habit.

It's totally illegal in my state too. We have signs up everywhere and they are quick to pull you over too. I had my phone up putting in an address on my gps and was pulled over. I was even stopped at a light when I was doing it. You have to like completely pull over and turn your car off before your allowed to use your phone. I drive for a living im in muy car 8 to 10 hours a day it's unbelievable the things I have seen people do while on their phone like going into other lanes and stuff it's crazy. I used to be really guilty of doing it...im not gonna lie until a few years ago I took my passenger mirror off cuz I hit someone else's car while texting and driving. It could have been much worse than just a mirror but that was my wake up call and since then I barley even touch my phone while driving. Scares me too much now

  • @estamos_tomamos‌ That is so super sad. :( Sorry about your goats!
  • ...this is completely 100% unacceptable and I'm disgusted knowing he probably does it with your kids in the car. I'm sorry, it just isn't a nice picture of him that all of your posts paint. He sounds like a complete ass with no regard for your or your children's safety. There is nothing to discuss here. If he doesn't listen to you, you simply cannot be in a car with him and you should definitely go ahead and call the cops. That is fucked up. Does he care about you or the kids at all? So disturbing.
  • Omg I'm so sorry about your goats! We have to watch for our livestock all the time here so birds of prey don't take them. I remember we lost spring lambs to hawks and eagles when I was a kid.

  • @estamos_tomamos‌ I've read about illegal poachers that will hunt the birds targeting livestock, but seeing as that isn't a legal means to an end, maybe it isn't the best option. I know how much you love your goats though, so I figured I'd throw it out there...

I honestly thought she was joking about the goats, I'm so sorry that happened. My girlfriends puppy was carried away by a large bird and it was devastating, I'm really sad for you, I can't imagine what terror you experienced having to watch that happen and being unable to help them. I feel terrible

Oh yeah, any livestock owner with any sense knows SSS when it comes to birds of prey. Shoot, shovel, shut up.

You have to do what you have to do. You have to protect your livestock...I don't blame anyone for living by a rule like SSS.

You should call game and fish. That's scary and what if they start attacking dogs and kids and stuff?

But if they are a protected species...they kind if have immunity. Game and fish would have to just let it happen. So sad.
  • Guise, I'm really sorry.  The first post I made about my goats being picked up by hawks was totally a joke, and I didn't think anyone would take it seriously.  I had a little too much fun with that...

The goats are 100% fine and munching merrily away in my backyard at this very moment.
    Heehee, too much fun.

  • estamos_tomamos I know ZERO about farms, livestock, goats, etc and my mouth was just hanging wide open while I was reading all this.  I was trying to think of something to say and I saw it was a joke.  Wow.

I'm still kind of in shock picturing these birds flying away with goats.

Birds of prey can carry off surprisingly large animals, but they are limited to critters their own bodyweight :). A golden eagle will kill much larger critters and eat them on the ground, but that's just their thing. Other birds of prey aren't prone to that.

  • @kellbell1982 I told my DH once if he didn't stop texting and driving then I was out.  this was before I got pregnant and holds true even more now.  drastic? maybe.  but it got the job done and he realized it was stupid and his job (which utilizes texts mainly) could wait while he was on the road.

  • @kellbell1982‌ I'm sorry you are going through this. I've been having to deal with this off and on and I pretty much laid down the law saying the baby and I will not ride in a car with him if that's how he drives. I also have been known to get out at stop lights and walk or call a lyft. I hope you get something resolved soon and way before the baby comes!

@estamos_tomamos‌ so glad to hear your goats are ok! I was all devastated for a minute haha!

  • I was not expecting a texting and driving commercial when I saw this commercial until it happened....

That being said, what kind of car does he have or are you in the market to soon replace his car? My car has bluetooth technology that lets me know (over speaker) that I have a message and I can verbally reply without even touching my phone. I know the sell that aftermarket as well... maybe worth looking into?

  • Do you keep his cell phone in your purse while your out? My hubs never keeps his cell in his pocket it's always in my purse and when he asks for it while he is driving (which is a LOT) I ask him what he needs and type it for him. I have told him over and over to stop and he has gotten better but he still does it and it drives me CRAZY.
