Pregnant after a Loss

First Beta - whole new set of worries

Hi ladies!
Well, I finally had my first beta after having to wait since POAS on Friday (this is what I get for not being able to wait).
So, I'm 11dp5dt and my beta is 153. I know that's not bad...maybe good even, but I just can't help but think abut how my pregnancy that ended in MC had way higher betas from the get go. I'm the equivalent of 16DPO (just with IVF instead) and my beta at 16dpo w/ the previous pregnancy was close to 300. I know every pregnancy is different and I know I don't want to go down the same route I went down for my previous pregnancy, but I just can't help comparing this "low" beta to my previous.
Anyways, just needed to vent out my worries. I'm happy that today I'm pregnant. It's just so hard to not be worried about the future...

Re: First Beta - whole new set of worries

  • (Hugs) it is so easy to play the comparison game when going through the early parts of pregnancy.  Those numbers look great to me and are actually about what mine were at that point.  Just know that you are not alone in your worries, whether they are rational or not.  Keep singing those mantras, "today I am pregnant".

That sounds like a good number to me for that early. What does your doc say? It's more of what the next number will do that matters. They have to start somewhere. Try not to freak yet! (Easier said then done!)
The nurse from the office actually called. I'm guessing she went over it with the Dr and all she said pretty much was my number and scheduled my Friday beta...no details or congrats or anything :-/

  • ((HUGS)) to you!!!  If you check out my siggy, you'll see that my betas this time around started at 8.8!!!  Yes, single digits!!!  HOWEVER, my numbers have increased at an amazing rate thus far... so never judge a pregnancy by the first number!!

T&P's coming your way for this little one to grow, grow, GROW!!!
  • My second miscarriage started at about 650, and this pregnancy started at 24! Clearly, the initial beta level is not indicative of the strength of the pregnancy! These things just vary a lot across women and pregnancies, so I wouldn't worry yourself about your (totally normal!) first beta compared to others. Good luck for your second beta!

  • PP's are right about rising and the whole picture being more important than one single number. That being said I know it doesn't matter how many people tell you your number is normal and not to worry you still will until you get you next one back, so I will just skip that and give you (((HUGS))) instead. Keeping my FX for a great rise!!

Every loss that I got betas with had a higher starting number than this pregnancy. I know you'll still worry, but it really is about the doubling time and not the first number.

Also, my RE's office didn't say congratulations until I was walking out of their door for the last time, so I wouldn't take that as a sign she doesn't think the pregnancy is viable. They've learned to keep emotion out of it so they don't react the wrong way for anyone.
This. Deep breaths and wait for the next data point :) you need two points to make a line so you know what's what.

  • PP have well-covered the don't compare, this is a different pregnancy, and that it's the doubling time that counts. For a starting point, 153 sounds really good!

Also, wasn't your transfer an FET because of severe OHSS at the time when a fresh transfer would have happened? I've heard that FET betas can start off a little slower to get started but can catch up and go on to perfectly healthy pregnancies and strong, healthy take-home babies.

Try not to worry - easier said than done, I know. It's the number on Friday that will give a clearer picture of how things look. For now, YOU ARE PREGNANT! (((HUGS)))
Yep...good memory! It was basically the month from hell followed by FET :-)
    Thanks love!
