I think wanting him to be there with you is a selfish reason to induce labor, not that any doctor would ever do it. I think instead you should pray that your baby takes as long as he/she needs to be born. Coming from someone who knows first had the pain of loosing a baby to pre term birth you might want to re- evaluate your situation.
I'm due Jan 18th I would like to try to make her come around 37 38 weeks so my fiance can be there do u guys think the doc can strip my membrane or what could we do own our own ? if the doctor says she's ready..?
I assume this is MUD. Op, that's just dumb. Why can't your fiancé reschedule a trip?

With my 16th kid, my baby daddy was going to juvie three days before her due date. I read on the bump that fisting was a really great way to get ready for labor. For added effect, because, you know, spicy food, I had my girlfriend cut up a ghost pepper first and not wash her hands. Worked great! 10 out if 10, would recommend again.

This just made my day; now I'm going to pee before I accidently pee myself while laughing.
Being a FTM or being new to this site is no excuse for being selfish. Even though you say you didn't know that 37 weeks is considered preterm, wanting to induce for convenience is crazy. Why not give your baby as much time as possible to develop properly? Also honesty =/= being rude.

This is a forum for people to ask questions, but you CLEARLY ignored the pinned posts at the top of the board with a HOST of information about posting on the board. It is not our responsibility to hold your hand. You asked for advice, we gave it. This is a bad idea. No one was hostile - YOU started that.
And for a BUSINESS TRIP. Not being deployed. Jesus tits.
SQUEE!!!!
I thought somebody stole JESUS TITS from @ladyamanuet but then I realized I her siggy just changed! It was serious confusion for a second
This is kinda off subject, but I just figured out what QFP really means. This whole time I thought it meant Quit Fucking Posting. My brain always finds a way to turn acronyms into swear words. Like when I thought FTFU meant Fuck This, Fuck You. Haha...
Anywho, where's Op at? This was just starting to get good...

I used to think it meant quit fucking playing which could sometimes still be an appropriate response.

You beautiful human being.
I fear the arsenal of sassy comebacks your children will inherit from you.
Also, I'm confused OP, will your husband be gone on a business trip for three weeks? Agree with PP's obviously. You do not want your baby coming earlier than 39 weeks if you can help it. I also heard during my last pregnancy it was being thrown around by the APA or one of the other doctor associations of making 41 or 42 weeks full term so that people couldn't induce at 39 weeks unless medically necessary. Not sure what come of that though.
You are right @Britb618 ... I am due the 9th but will have a RCS the 2nd, so I asked my OB what the risk factors were to have the CS 2 days (DAYS, not weeks) earlier then that bc it would save us thousands of dollars of insurance/taxes to have a child in this calender year. She said the March of Dimes pushed to pass legislation that elective CS's are no longer allowed before 39 weeks. Only if they are medically necessary. And TBH... 2 days before 39 weeks made me nervous. I would be terrified as a FTM to deliver without my husband there but even more terrified of the long term consequences of inducing labor that early. Hours of discomfort and loneliness is nothing compared to weeks in the NICU, a lifetime of consequences... or even worse.
I'm going to go visit my mom this weekend. That's the nicest way possible I can think of addressing a post about someone worried a relative will be temporarily missing from their child's life. I know, I know, fiancee > grandmother, but raw emotional response here is incapable of being logical right now.
FTM here and although I didn't know what week "full term" was I'm prepared to go all the way. I'm hoping that we go all the way to the due date because as PP have said, pre-term birth has many risks. Although I would love not to go back to work for a week after the Christmas break, my comfort will not put my child in danger.
And I thought the comments were rude about only inducing a week early. Which I'm starting question PPs stance if y'all say 39 weeks is "officially" full term and that's when I'd be getting induced. I've always heard anytime between 38 and 40 weeks is considered full term.

I'm am newish here and a FTM and I get wanting your baby to come out at a convenient time. DH is deploying around the same time that LO is expected and will be gone for 8 months.
That being said, I wouldn't consider inducing before 40 weeks because I would hate for LO to have health risks just so he can meet his dad before deployment. Additionally, if 40 weeks came and it didn't seem 100% safe, I wouldn't be able to do it either. Full term or not, LO is first priority.
Lurker from July '14. I also thought QFP was for quit fucking posting. Sad day! Just wanted to stop by and say thanks for the late night read! We have lost most of our MUD/trolls so it has been little boring lately...
I think I'm a little late, but did they change it to 39 weeks everywhere? Where I live they told me full term is 37-42 weeks... But they wont let me go past 41 but probably because of my age.

Doctors typically Won't induce labor before 39 weeks unless there is medical concern to do so.
ExcitedMama2 explained it prefect!
