edited October 2014 in Stay at Home Moms
We are about to buy new one and I would appreciate any suggestions on what to buy and look for in both of them?

Thx :)

  • We switched from a front loader to a top loader and it is so much better!

We have the Whirlpool platinum top loaders and I haven't had any complaints!

  • I also prefer a top loader. Ours are Kenmore in stainless steel-type finish (Sears' version of the Samsung ones I think), and I love them. One thing I'm a huge fan of is the washer doesn't have an agitator in the centre, so it's easy to wash bulky things like large blankets or our comforter.

We bought the maytag centennials 4 years ago and I really like them.

  • We got new front loaders last year and I love them. I did a lot of research, and as you see from the posts above, it's almost impossible to figure anything out. Even the top rated machines have lots of people who hate them, along with those who love them. It's kind of a crap shoot. We ended up getting the Electrolux front loaders (I think there are a few "evels" and we got mid to high range) and have been very happy with them. They were lower rated by CR, but the sales guy loved them and I have had no issues.

They were slightly shallower than others, which worked well for our space. Also, I like that it reminds me of when to do the "clean washer" cycle. I like all the "special" cycles even though we mainly use just a few.

We put a counter on top for folding and I love the set up.

  • We have Samsung front loaders and I have no complaints. We got them 4 years ago. We have steam for both the W&D, though we don't use it as often for the dryer. I will say, like another poster, a huge reason for loving our set up is that we have a counter on top of the machines and I freaking love that! It is no biggie to keep the door open to help it air out.

  • We have an energy efficient top loader. I think it is Samsung from Lowes.  It doesn't have an agitator, so I can really fill it up.  It also doesn't get the stinky smell that I hear about with the front loaders.

  • I prefer top load washers. I have heard alot of negetives about front load washers producing mildew and smelling. Also I have heard complaints that because most are energy efficient it takes multiple washes to clean really dirty (mud and that kind of stuff) clothes.
  • I really like my top loader, LG. It's HUGE and practically dries the clothes before I put them in the dryer. It has lots of bells and whistles but I don't use a lot of them, though, like, "baby wear" and "sportswear"
  • In my experience - Speed Queen all the way - they're Made in the USA, built like work horses, and parts are easy to come by even for older machines. We've got a top-load washer that's 10 years and showing no signs of slowing down and great for larger loads but can also be set for small loads. My parent's dryer is over 50 and still going strong with the occasional part needed. They aren't the techno-gadget laden machines, but really, my Kenmore Commercial line dryer with 40 different buttons my DH can't figure out, it's a lot easier to not have the computer to deal with.
