The feeling that someone who passed away is with you

This may sound crazy and I feel a little nuts right now but I had the strangest feeling today and I am wondering if anyone has felt something like this before.

When I was in HS my best friend was killed in a car accident. We had been friends for 7 years and did everything together. She loved music and was an amazing singer. After her death our school created a scholarship in her name for musically talented students.

My LO has loved music since the day she was born. If she is upset or fussy all you have to do is start singing to her and she stops instantly and listens to you intently. I know a lot of babies love it when you sing to them but this seems a little beyond normal and both of her sitters have commented on how much she seems to love music.

So today I was driving home with DD and she was a little fussy so I started singing to her and then the memory of my friend just hit me all at once. But it wasn't just a memory it was a really strong feeling that literally took my breath away and made me feel like she is here with me through my daughter. Why this just hit me today and not sooner and why I am crying about this when it has been 20 years since she died makes no sense to me whatsoever.

So tell me A14 have I completely lost my mind or has someone else experienced anything like this?

  • I am a believer , so probably I lost my mind since I was a kid .

  • I haven't experienced this personally, but I totally believe things like this are possible. :) What a comforting feeling that must be!

  • Sometimes LO stares and smiles at the wall by the front door and I like to think maybe he's looking at my husband's late grandpa who is just checking in :)
  • I've experienced this recently.
  • I totally believe this! At my parents house my dog used to go into the entry way and bark like crazy. Lately, whenever we walk in there now DS will smile and laugh. I know it has to be someone. Also, the first time we took DS to church my DH was walking around with him and everytime he passed the statue of Mary DS would smile. He still does it to this day but gets really excited and does his shy smile. It is almost like he knows her!

  • My grandmother had been in a nursing home for a few years and was (I hate to say this I just hate this phrase) but a complete vegetable. Family visited her often and told her about what was going on in everyone's lives as if she may understand. She passed away three days before my wedding. She was a very spiritual person, and I beleive she let herself go because she believed that she could see her family one last time. I dedicated a song to her. I'd like to think she was there. She was the best person I've ever known.

  • @ashleypixie you and my sister are like the same person.  It's soooo weird.  Except instead of children she has a pole studio and pugs... :)
  • Haha! Good, I'm one person less weird in this world.

  • @ashleypixie have you ever tried to go to a spiritual healer? i know you are not religious or anything but it sounds like you have a beautiful gift. and they sometimes help you unlock it.

  • Also, I am not a religious person by any means but I do beleive some people are sensitive to different types of energy. I know when a house is "haunted" and most details about this person. I can visualize them in my head and sometimes know their name. Never been wrong. I also sense people's auras and it helps me determine what kind of person they are. I feel people's moods around me and often feel angry or sad or irritated if I get too close to them. I don't beleive this is spiritual at all, empathic people must have slightly evolved in a different way, fully aware that energy is constant and transferable. I don't know, like newton's law of inertia taken a step further. As if energy is constant and can only transfer but never stop...? If that makes ANY sense to anyone else. So @sparky I've taken your craziness to a whole nother level!

That happen to me too since I was a kid I try to avoid those staff but it's hard not to feel it.
And I also try to avoid talk about these with other people because they don't Believe it.
  • I've experienced this a few times in my MIL's house, though I never met the woman in question.

Before I met my DH, and before his mom married his stepdad, his stepdad had a previous wife named Joanne.  She loved to wear jasmine perfumes.  When she passed away, he married DH's mom.  When DH and I fell on hard times, we moved in their house even though they were already housing one of my SILs and her two kids.

Getting to the point, one night when I was sitting up alone on the computer in our room I smelled jasmine from nowhere.  I was totally perplexed.  I had no candles or incense going, neither did SIL or MIL, there were no jasmine plants anywhere on the block for the smell to come from.  Trying to find it, I came out into the kitchen and asked MIL if she smelled jasmine.  All calm and collected, she told me, "Oh, that's Grandma Joanne, SFIL's first wife.  She visits every once in a while to check on Eldest Niece."  (Eldest Niece was the only grandbaby born when she passed away, I believe.)

Blown away.  Never had someone be so blithe talking to me about ghosts, lol.  I caught her around a few more times after that before we moved, and always made sure to say, "Hi, Grandma Joanne!" even though I never met her.  Never had any feelings that she was dangerous or anything, though she certainly seemed to be curious about my video games because that's usually when I'd notice her! XD

  • It can even happen in new homes, not just old creepy one where you can just get that " feeling." When we were house hunting, there was a new neighborhood with one house nearly finished and we poked around to check it out. My husband found me in the backyard, I couldn't stay in the house any longer. It just felt like someone was following me very closely. So we went next door, to a house that was only framed in. EVERY opening to the house, doors, windows, fire places, had blessings and prayer verses all over them with markers, as if to keep something from entering the house. So weird. I found out that one of the contractors had died of a heart issue of some kind, in or around the area. Whomever was building the house had feared something about him or his death I suppose.
